Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi

Short spoiler-free review: Really liked it. Unlike Force Awakens it didn't feel like a remake. Mark Hamill really brings it in his performance, and the story is quite simple in a good way. If I had any complaints, it's that the movie is almost TOO dark at times.

Only time I got lost:
When Rey fell down that hole into the underground lake, and we had that whole sequence where she's seeing all those reflections of herself in the glass.
I watched a $7 matinee of this today and I’d rate it a matinee. See it on the big screen, but not worth a full price.

Lots of enjoyable moments, but as a whole it’s inconsistent.

JJ Abrahams setup a lot of big things in Force Awakens as it ends on a cliffhanger, promising to deliver in the next saga:

Rey’s parentage
Rey and Finn romance
Luke’s big role in all this
Snoke
Return of Phasma

Force Awakens is a remake of a New Hope? Be patient, the sequel will get into all the above stuff. Rianna Johnson doesn’t care about any of that as he has a very different idea for a narrative in this film.

The good?

Kylo Renn is a lot more fleshed out and interesting

Lots of good individual moments

The actors all shine in their roles.

Tries lots of new things, most people probably didn’t ask for

The bad

Way too long of a film when there wasn’t enough story to fill it. Finn’s casino planet story could have been cut out. Luke himself was good, but his story on the island didn’t need that much time

Without spoiling anything yet, just a lot of choices made in the film that made it inconsistent with Star Wars itself, not including the three movies in one that is this.

It’s enjoyable. Not a bad film at all. But they’re running out of ideas if this is what they have left. They didn’t even setup a reason for the sequel other than we need more Star Wars movies.

7/10, SJW casting really took me out of the moment.  Every single rebel scene was basically "white woman, minority woman, black dude, alien".  Every incorrect decision in the movie was made by a man, every wise decision by a woman.

Rey and Finn are great, no doubt, but shoehorning protected classes in for the sake of shoehorning is fucking gay

Ben Shapiro did a great review. He's a neocon commentator, but he's also a nerd. He reviewed it as a nerd. I can't link YT from work, but you guys should check out his review. He makes some great points.

No idea how you took this movie as a critique on Bush era tax cuts.

There’s bigger problems like the whole Finn storyline on the casino planet.

I've been listening to hate reviews on YouTube. I am going to listen to Z's podcast today. I never get to watch movies in the theater any more, but I can't wait for this one to hit Blu Ray so I can rent it.

From listening to the spoilers, I have a question. Why are people losing their minds about Luke's fate? Did he die, or did he BECOME ONE WITH THE FORCE!!! motherfuckers?!?!?!?

The movie isn’t hated. It’s just extemely divisive amongst Star Wars fans themselves, causing a civil war.

Mark Hamill has come out against his portrayal of Luke in interviews, but now back tracks and says he didn’t mean any of it after Disney got to him.

IT is hilarious what the person who edited the film did.

Film time is around 52 minutes.

I could careless that the decisions the men were making were stupid other than the Poe vs Dr. Saddler arguments.  That was ridiculous.  Of course he's going to look retarded when you don't let him know the plan and treat him like a hindrance
