Was thinking about this at work today after telling a co-worker about the current status of the Babefest.
I honestly don't know an exact date but I know I've been around here pretty long. Even though a lot of it was lurking... :)
Some things / people I remember:
Getting together to play Yahoo pool
Euclid, Kurt Angle it's True, CJC when he was Rage of Angels....
Fatty schooling a bunch of dicks on the Wrestling Classics Board in a discussion about (I think it was) early UFC maybe...
Randazzo....
Being a Nancy....
Janitor and GPac (I think Janitor is Prime, right?)
Probably spelling it wrong but Sabumafoo. There was a pic of a bald dude petting a cat that I remember. I remember for a while I though it was Fatty. (Still not entirely sure)

GPac kinda disappeared, as far as I can remember.
As for Janitor, yeah, he owned the old A1. I was taking care of the technical side of things, and Janitor was kind of getting more and more distant from the site. When the a1wrestling.com domain/hosting came up for renewal, he didn't pay for the site and it was taken offline.
We talked and he agreed for me to take over the domain name and the site, but he didn't have any of the usernames/passwords etc needed to do so, so I fired up the A1 Dash Edition and here we are.

All honesty and no joking intended for the following: I don't remember ever schooling anyone on the internet. I remember arguing a shit ton, but I don't ever really crush people outright (UNLESS IT'S FUCKING BLACKLIGHT! FUCK YOU!!!).
Anyway.

I was late to the party. I lurked for a while and then started posting in like '05 or something if I had to guess. I could be wrong on that date, but it seems fairly right. I think I was already posting here when I got married the second time and that was October 2005.
I learned of A1 because I've been friends with SupTool since 1987. I also interacted with several A1-ers like JA/TH, BigDaddy and BobbyR elsewhere online so I finally joined up here. I was posting at what was 411wrestling.com at the time for a little bit before making the switch.

I remember chatting a lot on IM. A1 Group chats. That's where the A2 fiasco started. And JTB started A2, and he had the most RIDICULOUS set of rules anyone had ever seen (there were was like a list of 20 or 30 rules and everything ended with YOU WILL BE BANNED. I think one was DO NOT MAKE STUPID JOKES. IF YOU DO, YOU WILL BE BANNED). And people kind of slowly backed away and realized how stupid the whole thing was.

The MS Paint Thread was epic as was Brandon and his green cords.
An underrated one was where Torgo or LF (I think) posted a picture of Eugene with a blue hat on and asked if we would recognize him like that. Then someone trolled him in a thread about Chavo Classic being fired for a no-show by saying, "Apparently he was in the building, but wearing a blue hat so no one recognized him."

I always through the Padje/Rage feud was a work, and behind busting each others stones they were really good friends.
Some of the best friendships are built on ball busting.

I have been around since practically the start.. I was That_Damn_Good.. I think the best Edge writing was the Vince Russo Battle Royal. at some point, Lex Luger pinned himself for the win, then got thrown out by Stevie Ray I think.

I was around in the old board days when CJC/Rage of Angels & Webweaver would get into really heavy political arguments. I also remember when EDGE was more scatological with his humor.
I always wondered what happened to G_Pac & Janitor/Jim Dandy. The implication had always been is if either of them left, the site would close. Yet, the site is still here.
And I remember the whole Fred/Miss Happy debacle, which I'll stop there. And MikoZuna.
I remember when I took everything so seriously on here. :(

I lurked for a long time(some wish I would go back to lurking ;) ). I posted off and on in the wrestling forum and just read the others back then.
I don't think I've ever lurked, here or anywhere else. Sure, I'll read the occasional post off of a Google search or something, but no long or short term board lurking.. Reading other peoples thoughts without joining in just isn't my style.
As I recall, I made a beeline for a Mick Foley thread as soon as I got to A1, with Torgo defending Foley against some of the other posters (I think a few were Puro's. TY among them, maybe?) who claimed he was responsible for the workers that injured themselves trying to emulate his style. I threw my lot in with his side, because I believed Foley's only obligation was to himself and his career, and he's in no way liable for some idiot that's not smart enough to protect themselves as they try riding the coattails of his success..
Torgo seemed impressed. ^_^

Janitor invited me via email, while I was a member at 1Bob. WCW was definitely still happening, so I'm assuming about 1999/2000. Was a member while 1Bob and A1 were both using DC Scripts (still think that was a great type of forum software), then 1Bob died a death when it moved to a new server, and I made this my permanent home.
I remember the front page having links to Edgecrusher's column, NY Girl's column and the archive having Edge's interviews with various wrestling personalities.
Xavier Storm, Rage of Angels, Janitor, G_Pac. Names that are just as memorable as some wrestlers from back in the day, you got so used to seeing them in posts.
Sentra I used to email, because like me, we both liked writing about wrestling (I haven't bothered at all for many a year now) and we set up a couple of sites together with history pieces. Lost touch with him completely after 1Bob though. Didn't know him beyond that really.

Got back into wrestling in high school, sadly, thanks to my friends playing WCW vs. nWo World Tour on N64. Eventually found 1wrestling and lurked at a1 from the beginning. Started posting in earnest in 2001. My best memories are from 2003-2006.

A2 was obviously ridiculous. Some of the triggers: (i) Lamb was upset (!) because his Nazi imagery was banned; (ii) upon a discussion of jimmy eat world, the word jew was discovered to have also been banned; (iii) ugly baby; and (iv) a weird social experiment by randazzo and dylan. Peaked with padje and stan running the place, of course.

I'm sorry, but 9/11 was the greatest use of this site. It took over the site for at least a week but I think much longer. There was a ton of insight from people of NY and money others that is really the main purpose for these types of message boards. I think we were better for having each other and a vast array of opinions and shoulders cry on if necessary. I still remember FF posting about from such a heartfelt place. I believe he was a dozen or so blocks away.

He finally left (for good?) because he lost a loser leaves town wager with markformadden/jweazy/Proud Virgin over the Braves playoff record in 2010. I do believe that he was also the one the bragged about punching the girl in the mouth.

I actually chatted w/ PILE on facebook a few months ago and he was considering coming back to A1 as he had recently started watching wrestling again.

This was before the "badly bad times" between Shane and BRod, and Red had sold me to BobbyR in the prison yard for a box of smokes and a few issues of Teen Beat magazine.
Since then, I've been an embarrassment to A1 and the concept of internet posting as a whole. With the exception of my Floating X-Box adventure, photoshopping Linus and his X-Box, and unabashedly kissing the ass of whoever was in charge at any given time.
Oh, and I'm pretty sure that my fagginess drove away more people than it kept.

First week it started, I think. I want to say I lurked for a couple of weeks before posting but I can't remember at this point.
Lots of great memories in this thread. Some not so much, but more on that later.
I understand why some of you have the opinions you do about CJC, but if you take away the agree/disagree side of things, he is a really good person. I remember him being ready to head out to Mississippi during the aftermath of FS's second most egregious act after never giving a BF award to FreakShow. I know when they did the road trips he tried to be generous, as VB alludes to. I've also shared a few phone calls with him over the years, and have him on FB, so I can say that he is way more humble than he may have come across. I understand where you get your viewpoints, but I feel obligated to defend a friend.

Surprised to find so much content about me here, but most of it is accurate, or misunderstood under fair terms. So, genuinely, I apologize to Torgo, VB, STF, and whoever else it is owed to. I honestly don't remember half of what has been claimed, but that's not a denial that it did.
Torgo, I do remember giving you a hard time in general. We shared a passion for movies and I used to enjoy reading the "fights" you had with your brother. I think I started ribbing you in a good natured way but got out of hand over time and didn't really care. So, I'm sorry about that. It completely sucks to read someone just completely hating you five years or so after your last known interaction. If I had a choice, I'd prefer to just be completely forgettable, instead.
I don't remember much about VB-directed posts. I remember thinking of VB and XS as kind of sidekicks and have a stronger impression of Stan, who I liked a lot until he went all coke/Adkins and started breaking off with the sexy lads. In general, the people who went to that forum were people I had liked but when left to their own devices I found them completely unrelatable (which apparently is not a word, but I'm leaving it). I admit to never really "getting" Bryce (in this very thread I have no clue what he meant by his Moneyball post, for example... don't remember what I wrote, and couldn't tell you if he means it was a great read or a big joke) but most of those guys I had had decent interactions with on the board or through IM, so it was weird when they broke off and their collective attitude changed. Mikey might have been swept up in that, or maybe anything negative I aimed in his direction was just because he was a Yankees fan. Regardless, I'll say I should have had a much better filter at the time, and in the long term whatever venom I was spewing at the time has washed away on my side.
STF, I honestly have no idea how I pissed you off. I really have very little impression of you outside of being SupTool's friend. My guess is that you simply saw how I treated others on the board and decided I was a douche bag and not worth anyone's fond recollections. If that's the case, you're certainly justified in your opinion. I should mention that when I came back last summer and PMed you about linking to your blog, it was simply due to my love for what A1 had been, and in my mind I didn't want it to be "second" to another site for the purposes of wrestling discussion. When I got caught up in wrestling all of a sudden, the first thing I thought was "I need to get back on A1" because of the strong quality the discussions on here always had. I think Dan mentions that the early MBE crowd has a lasting fondness for each other. I agree, especially about the "booking committee" that took over when SupTool let go of the reigns. We worked so hard together to give everyone enjoyment, protect egos, etc. When you had guys like Dan and Bill writing, and your own writing had to compete with that in the many-thousand-words opus we published every week, you had to be on your game and really put your honest effort in. It brought us all together. Also, people might not know or remember that the early parts of MBE were really just a spontaneous act among friends. I don't remember much of the material (well, making an ass out of myself with SJF I do), but the camaraderie resonates years later. I hope that helps you understand better why certain posters on here who you'd never think would defend me, still come to my aid (thanks, Bob-o!).
So, yeah, sorry I wasn't always a model citizen. It's not something I'm proud of. I'm sure many people regret actions between their 20th and 26th birthday, and that's generally the years I was a regular poster, give or take. Like I said with Torgo, a lot of times when I posted like an internet tough guy I was figuring all the board regulars were in on the joke. I wasn't hiding behind my monitor, I was just that obnoxious guy who tears everything up thinking it's all a big joke. I guess part of the problem is that what I considered the board regulars wasn't the entire group, just the posters I "valued" at the time. I definitely had that "too cool for school/wrestling" attitude during the time I pissed people here off.
Oh, and I have no idea what the hell I said about Best Buy that must have come across like a big shill. I left them a few years ago, and am currently enjoying their financial woes, though I have some good friends still working there who I don't want to suffer. I will say that I have always had an attitude about my employer where I become a fierce proponent of their products/services so it doesn't shock me at all that I came across like some talking head corporate fan boy somewhere along the line (think Beast and Windows Phones, only actually getting paid by them).
Like I said above, when I wanted to talk wrestling again, this is the first place that came to mind. I went out of my way to be anonymous because I figured any knowledge of who was sharing opinions would completely color the impression of what I said, and I wanted to just be part of the discussion with a clean slate. Now I guess I lost that until I get Dan to set up another dummy account for me, but in the end it was worth coming clean and trying to right some wrongs. I've seen a reference or two along the way to my past on this board, but I think there are posts on like 4 different pages in this thread so it was a bit overwhelming (bad, not good).
Guess I'll post this and go back through and see if there's anything else I want to address.

I was sure you had broken down RickRude when you asked if I had recently had a baby or something like that while I was posting frequently last summer.
And I should address the Josh thing, too. Even if I wasn't a huge fan of a poster, so many people on here have legitimately invited the rest of us into their lives through their posts and I always tried to do right by them if I could. I remember offering one guy a part time job one time to help them out. I offered to loan someone a not-trivial amount of money when they shared that they were having problems with their living arrangements. MikoZuna hated me, and I remember legitimately spending hours one day or weekend trying to help him out with a failing business.
In the case of the Greatest Chicago Sports Fan of All-Time, I do remember that post, and I swear I was only trying to help a guy who was really down find his way out of a huge financial hole he had dug for himself. I am sure all I really accomplished was adding to the "Pile is an asshole" mystique but the path to hell is paved with good intentions.

tdub was banned several time over the years under various names (smartguy, nancy, several others). He finally left (for good?) because he lost a loser leaves town wager with markformadden/jweazy/Proud Virgin over the Braves playoff record in 2010. I do believe that he was also the one the bragged about punching the girl in the mouth.

But it's pretty cool to see the real people behind the handles on Facebook. Janitor invited me via email, while I was a member at 1Bob. WCW was definitely still happening, so I'm assuming about 1999/2000. Was a member while 1Bob and A1 were both using DC Scripts (still think that was a great type of forum software), then 1Bob died a death when it moved to a new server, and I made this my permanent home.
I remember the front page having links to Edgecrusher's column, NY Girl's column and the archive having Edge's interviews with various wrestling personalities.
Xavier Storm, Rage of Angels, Janitor, G_Pac. Names that are just as memorable as some wrestlers from back in the day, you got so used to seeing them in posts.
Sentra I used to email, because like me, we both liked writing about wrestling (I haven't bothered at all for many a year now) and we set up a couple of sites together with history pieces. Lost touch with him completely after 1Bob though. Didn't know him beyond that really.
He died. I think he was Mazda, right? Someone told me he died. Pretty sad.
Sorry if this was already clarified, but Mazda/Sentra did indeed pass away. I think it was shortly after A1 formed, as I still lurked on 1bob at the time. It's been so many years, I don't remember the details, but I guess he had been dealing with health and physical issues all his life.

Holy crap, did a random Google search and found this thread, cool blowing an hour reliving some memories.
A special "Thank You" to PILE, Mike and Stan for saying nice things and defending me when when you didn't know if I'd even see it or not. I interact to this day with lots of A1ers on FB, including these guys, always glad to see people being genuine.
I have no recollection of being "butthurt" over Padje calling me fat, fwiw. But I definitely had a chip on my shoulder back then. Let's just say that we were all VERY different people back then. In a weird way, I really bonded with a lot of people here, though. BUT - there were some people I was VERY douchey toward - Blacklight comes to mind as an example, and I'm embarrassed by it now, so let me say right now that I apologize to Blacklight for the things I said (no need to rehash them).
I was also an ass to Webweaver many times, and it was mutual, but I apologize for my part in it.
FS, we interact all the time on FB, but you didn't defend me here. THAT MEANS IT'S ON LIKE DONKEY KONG~!

This thread blew my mind. And I developed a disorder over those green cords, and never wore them. I really enjoy the fact bryce has never stopped thinking about me after all these years. But it's pretty cool to see the real people behind the handles on Facebook. I interact pretty regularly with Fatsexy, TH, BigDaddy, Pile, CJC, STF, SupTool, Poe (I don't hate ya kid), Prisco, and Edge. I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but it's crazy that we've still somewhat stayed intact for 10+ years now.
I know you don't hate me. I just was damn annoying.
Nowadays, I post less on message boards concerning wrestling and more on video game/PlayStation trophy hunting sites. I also have a day job and had to develop a thick skin (although my job at times feels meaningless but it's stable). Stable is good.

I just got finished watching a documentary on Tower Records called All Things Must Pass, then I read through this old thread and see a lot of interesting similarities. A1 is my Tower Records, in internet form. And while it may not be what it once was, I still like to stop in once and a while to hang out with some internet folks I've interacted with for going on 16/17 years. That's insane. A lot of big moments in history happened and I remember being on A1 right after.
This thread is 4 years old and Patrick, Linus, bryce, and several others have left or are unable to access the site or whatever the issue is. Some of the posters who have left, like TH and Chus and my old pal djunstable...I really wish they'd stop by once in a while. I miss some folks!

This thread rules, and it's kind of sad at the same time.
I think Zandrax should host an A1 party in Chicago so we can all get together and play drinking games and WWE No Mercy. I'll bring my N64 and 3 controllers.

It's really interesting to see how, after so long away, my brain kind of slips-back into A1Posting mode like an old, nasty, semen filled glove even before reading into any of these threads. Ostensibly, I'm a productive adult now with a kid and actual responsibility. I shudder to think what could happen if I look back and see all the terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible things I've said on here in the past.
I do see Jim S on FB chat once and awhile and post on Chris' political threads with Dan, but I don't know if I ever want to go back to what I was when I was mass-shitposting all those years ago.
Hope you all are doing well. Dunno if I thanked the Pod Bros for letting me in their club when I was so very, very non-serious about the whole thing. Glad to see that's still going.

I'm in a strikingly similar boat and I have the same fear about old posts lol. Like, I've posted so much that I'm sure I've posted things that would look awful out of context, and probably even IN context, and this is why I give people the benefit of the doubt when old forum posts get brought to life on Twitter and the online mobs start coming after them...like I'm sure everyone has posted stupid stuff that they would shudder about now, especially if they've actually changed (which actually DOES happen, if I can do it anyone can!).

Ha. I don't think I ever did that. Talked a lot about the time I trained to be a wrestler at Killer Kowalski's school, sure, but talking about training to be a wrestler and bragging about being a tough guy are not in any way the same thing.

I was 1bob before A1, and always used the handle Titantron. Probably about 99/00 or so. I can't remember exactly. I was definitely out of high school and it was peak MNW.
Changed my nick to my real name eventually. Don't think I was the most well-informed poster in my early days. As with all things, age can make us better...
