The CW’s Arrow is not only the network’s best new show, it’s also one of the the best freshman fall shows on any network. Is it a CW bite-sized hoodie-wearing version of Batman Begins? A bit. But if you’re going to be inspired by a superhero origin movie, that’s a great place to start. Below are six things to know about The Green Arrow’s return to TV next week:
1. He’s just called Arrow: Though Arrow is based on The Green Arrow comic books, showrunners Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg have shortened the character’s name, reportedly to sound less comic-book-ish.
2. He’s not a liberal. The DC Comics version of Arrow is famously considered a very left-wing character. Kreisberg told critics (http://tv.yahoo.com/news/cws-arrow-remain-liberal-superhero-004752552.html) last July that some of that sensibility will remain, noting “there are some echoes of the One Percenters and Occupy Wall Street within the show.” But star Stephen Amell later told EW that the “liberal” tag was overblown by the media. “I think it’s a mistake to say Oliver Queen is a liberal superhero targeting the wealthy,” Amell says. “He’s targeting people who abuse their powers. Now is that mostly going to be the wealthy? Sure. Is Arrow a Democrat? Absolutely not. Is he a Republican? No, he’s not that either. He’s an idealist. And he’s going after a certain type of person, not a certain class of people.”
3. The island flashbacks will continue through the entire series. Flashbacks showing how a callow young rich kid became a lethal crime fighter will be a major part of the show. “The Arrow is the only character I can think of who can sustain a 5-year origin story — because of the island,” Guggenheim says. “The last episode of the series will be Arrow seeing the [rescue] boat in the pilot.” Now that’s proving you know your story — a producer that will actually tell you what’s in the series finale before the first episode airs!
4. Arrow plays rough. He’s not like Superman or Batman with some firm (and, let’s face it, impractical) moral code against killing psychopathic criminals. Arrow isn’t out to hurt anybody, but if he’s forced to defend himself, he’s not going to aim for your legs. “Every hero’s actions are influenced by his origin story,” Guggenheim says. “For Bruce Wayne [Batman], seeing his parents murdered with gun violence left him with this code that death is not necessary. For Oliver, his experience happened on this island. It’s a very violent and dark place where other men lost their lives and their souls. He’s a moral man and a good man and he believes in justice but the tools he uses to weed out justice are heavily honed by the crucible of his time on the island …Arrow has a popcorn feel about it, but we’re trying to be real about the story we’re telling.”
5. Two major new characters will be introduced in future episodes: Arrow will eventually meet a mysterious fellow millionaire played by Torchwood‘s John Barrowman (http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/08/15/arrow-john-barrowman/), and encounter one DC Comics’ ferocious females — The Huntress, a mob boss’ vengeful daughter, played by Aussie TV actress Jessica De Gouw (http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/08/21/arrow-huntress/).
6. Keep an eye on Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy): In the comics, Arrow’s former flame eventually morphs into his crime-fighting partner Black Canary (guess the name Robin was taken). Producers haven’t confirmed this will likewise happen in the show, but we say it’s a safe bet. “Everyone wants to know when Laurel turns into the Black Canary,” Cassidy says. “And will there be fishnets.”

I had wondered why they didn't use the same actor.
-
I'm getting really tired of people putting Batman on the same level as Superman when it comes to moral code. You know what Batman's moral code is?
"I'm the mother fucking Batman and will do whatever damn well pleases me. If I wanna toss this guy off a building to his death or just knock this guy out and take him to the police. Fuck y'all. I'm Batman."

batman throws razor sharp batarangs at people's faces. how has he not killed more people?

Bats is the Bad Cop to Supes' Good Cop. They both hate the bad guys, but go about things differently. Bats doesn't kill, as that would make him no better than the criminals. He and Gordan have had conversations about that. But he certainly is not above breaking knees or ribs.
Ollie, if he's pushed enough, can get pretty grisly.
-
Bullshit, Bats kills ALL THE FUCKING TIME! Directly and most often indirectly. The amount of bad guys he has let die from falls or being run over or anything is astronomical and believe me...he could save them if he truly wanted to. He just doesn't so he can "feel" good since he "Didn't kill them"

"I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you..."
I think there's a difference. At least in Bats' mind.
-
In his mind there's a difference sure but that's just a coping method being used to self justify.
"I didn't kill him Your Honor. He fell and I just didn't help save him from it." That's not going to hold up in court with the kind of cases Bats would come under.
Don't get me wrong I love Bats but he is a stone cold killer to the core. His fragile traumatized psyche just makes justifications to protect himself from fully losing it.
-
Rant incoming. Putting it in spoiler tags, so don't read it, if you don't want to hear it, but I can promise Oliver being a stone cold killer is not my issue:
The writing on the show is... not good.
Ok, so Oliver goes on a cruise with a detectives daughter and his girlfriends sister, who he cheated on her with, and they both die. I can understand secretly wishing he was the one who died, but they were basically acting like he's responsible for the tragedy. I mean, come on, it was a freak accident.. How much blame could you really lay on the man?
So, Arrow's a stone cold killer.. He's Punisher with a bow and arrow, basically. Fine, except he kills everyone except the main bad guy. He kills his bodyguards just to make a stupid threat, and when the rich bastard refuses to deliver, he breaks into his building and kills more bodyguards and god knows who else, just to use a trick arrow to hack into his computer network and steal his money.
Some points on why this is stupid:
1. Why even give him a chance to make good? Did he really think the rich asshole would knuckle under.
2. Batman would not have charged in and killed everyone, even if he was a killer. Hell, Punisher would have been smarter then that. If his goal was only to hack his system, there's so many better ways to go about it.. How about sneaking into the building when all the police you alerted with your stupid threats aren't there, for example?
3. If he MUST make a show with all the killing, why not kill the rich guy AND steal his money? He's the ONLY guy who actually deserves to die.. The other people he kills are just doing their job. So why stop short of driving an arrow through the mans heart?
4. Considering all the crime drama's out there, I think by now everyone knows when there's a murder, there's usually a through investigation. Yet somehow, they completely miss the arrow sticking out of the wall with a router like light blinking on the tail end of it. O_o I mean, didn't anyone ask him for a detailed account of what happened? Didn't they look for evidence on the scene? How long was that arrow sticking out of the wall, anyways? And the blinking connectivity light is just dumb...

Come on, it's hardly nitpicky to call them on the police and detectives apparently going "Ok, the bad guy got away. Lets go watch a ball game."
There's suspension of disbelief, and there's outright stupidity and lazy writing. And what happened with Arrow's little trick "hacker arrow" going unnoticed, and the police response to multiple homicides, is the latter..

New show, fresh start with no ties to Smallville.
Except for the major plot holes.
Smallville was full of them.
-
is this written by the same people who wrote smallville? cause the smallville writing was horrible.
-
My biggest problem with smallvill was clark was kind of a dick
-

David Nutter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Nutter) did the pilot for both.
But a different team is working on it now, so I may give it another chance, if I remember to DVR it.
-
I finally started watching. Saw the first 2-1/2 episodes (On demand stopped working) I'm liking it - I like a hero willing to kill. I'm getting a bit of a Dexter vibe too

Same day/week repeats have spoiled me, so I don't normally dvr, but I missed this last arrow.
I don't mind killing, if it's not senseless killing. My biggest gripe with the pilot is that all the killing could have been avoided, considering his goal wasn't to murder the evil rich guy or any of his goons, but to hack his computers. There were smarter, subtler ways to go about that.
-
Anyone still watching? I still like it. Although the end of episode 7 for a minute Ollie was reminding me of Clark's do as I say not as I do attitude
-
I guess I'm the only fan. So Slade isn't deathstroke, his best friend is?
BTW - great line - "I may be blonde, but I'm not that blonde"
-
Nah, I'm guessing he'll be Deathstroke later on.
Was odd to see Crixus there.
-
I think you're right
who is Crixus?
-
I've been enjoying the show too but end up a couple of weeks behind due to working a lot of weekends lately. The guy training Ollie to take the plane in the 2/13 episode played Crixus on Spartacus. Considering that series is in the can and done after this season glad to see that he has found another gig. I hope he is able to stay on for a while.
-
Just watched all of the first season on Netflix. It's not bad. I like the take on his story though they REALLY need to come up with a new name for him. They aren't calling him The Green Arrow because it sounds ridiculous so instead the call him The Hood or just The Vigilante? Think they need to re-evaluate what sounds ridiculous.
Shocked at all the appearances of non-Green Arrow related characters showing up. Mainly Huntress and Firefly. Also, the sister's nickname being Speedy but ends up dating Roy Harper, aka Arsenal, aka Speedy, is just fucking hilarious.
Not sure how I feel about Slade Wilson and Deathstroke being different people. However, there are still 4 seasons to go.
Like the flashback story telling aspect where over the course of the season you see a years worth of events on The Island. Honestly, his time on The Island has me interested the most.
Plot holes and utter lack of intelligence in some characters aside it's not bad story telling wise. Nothing spectacular but what I expect from this kind of show
-
How's it compared to Smallville? People watching the current season say it's Smallville with just the fun parts.
-
I never got into Smallville. I tried but the freak of the week bullshit was so damn annoying. Just everything about it, other than the guy's portrayal of Lex Luthor, pissed me off. Never finished the first season.
This on the other hand is a lot of fun I felt. Need to get a hold of the second season episodes so I can catch up to where it's at
-
they're on demand
-
Cool. Thanks. That's what station XD
-
I don't know, I just hit on demand on my remote
-
Ah ok. Yea I go in there but it breaks them down by station XD
-
Fox
-
Bollocks.
On Demand is missing the first few episodes in the Second Season
-
How's it compared to Smallville?
also really bad.
-
also really bad.
Seems so.
Tomorrow People is better, and that's not really too good either...
-
So I've been binge watching season 1 on netflix and I'm blown away by how much I love this show. It blows away the best seasons of Smallville, including Smallville's own Green Arrow, who was really cool when he was first introduced. It obviously destroys Agents of Shield, which I think is actually below Smallville (when Smallville's writing was at it's peak)
Oliver is great. Surprised how often he actually kills people, which is all the time. The action on the show is overall very entertaining.
Much like the Oliver from Smallville, he's very Batmanish, and I'm okay with that. It's also full of Batman characters, who translate really well for a non-powered superhero show.
I'm currently on the season one finale, haven't watched it yet, but they've done a really good job building the entire season around two strong arcs. The flashback storyline with Slade and exactly how he learned all his skills, and the current one with the mystery of his father, mother, and their shady business partners.
I've been keeping up on and off with the happenings of season 2 and it only gets better it seems.
Great show.
-
Show is amazing. The ending to this weeks episode had my friends and I just freaking out and making jokes, the good kind.
-
Yeah, it's better then Smalleville.
Just can't get into it though. Supernaturals about the only show I really enjoy on that network.
Also, I know their target audience is the same types who like Twilight or 90210, but yuppie types kind of make it hard to take any attempts at "edgy" seriously sometimes.. In a "mean streets of Greenwich" kind of way.
-
Into season 2 now. Black Canary is epic! :fr: I was wondering how they'd ever make Laurel Black into Black Canary, turns out they don't :good_mini: . The Doll Maker was one sick character for television, loved it.
Yeah this is like watching a live action Batman movie on television.
Billionaire playboy secretely a dark brooding superhero? Check
Secret high tech batcave like hide out? Check
Cute, smart, Oracle type hacker as an ally? Check
Check, check, check.
-
As far as trailers go - this is so epic
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEZQUcjG6AY

Holy crap that was great. This is fast becoming one of my favorite shows of all time. Every week seems to get stronger and stronger.
And uh...was that a Harley Quinn sneak peak at 2:02 - 2:04 seconds? It's REALLY quick but after Deadshot says "Welcome to the Suicide Squad" it cuts to a camera shot looking over a woman's shoulder and against the prison door is a hand with black nail polish and in the glass you can see reflected a prison jumpsuit and blonde hair
-
One of my favorites as well. The pacing is always great and they usually deliver on the teases in a good amount of time.
Pretty shocked they've kept the island flashbacks going for so long and kept it more interesting as the show goes on. Any other show would have ended that storyline pretty fast. The actor playing Oliver feels like a very different person in those flashbacks to his credit, almost like they did film it 5 years ago.
Really hope they don't kill off Black Canary to Laurel can oneday take her place.
-
The Island Flashbacks are going to be going for the first five seasons. Each season is a year's worth of time on the island. I like how each season they've also dedicated almost an entire episode to Island flashbacks as The Island stories I find extremely good.
This show is just good. I really don't know how to properly express how much I enjoy it lol
-
This was a change of pace from the Deathstroke drama, which I was ready for coming back, but at least they finally made Diggle relevant again. He had become a glorified extra the last few episodes.
They did a really good job of humanizing the Suicide Squad. I felt for sorry for them a couple of times, especially Deadshot. Loved the Harley Quinn tease.
Now that Deadshot and Bronze Tiger are pretty much established, give them proper costumes and ship those designs to DCC asap.
Loved the surprising familiarity between Ollie and Waller at the end. Suicide Squad + Ollie and his inner circle vs Deathstroke sounds about right, desptie Oliver defeating him once back in the island.
Interesting how quickly Laurel is okay with Oliver and Sarah, I figured they'd keep that a secret from her as much as possible, although she could see right through it.
If next week is Birds of Prey, wonder if Felicity will play the part of Oracle? Looking forward to a Huntress/Canary fight.
-
Episode was phenomenal. Deadshot was brilliant. We were right thinking Harley in that trailer. Just wish we could have gotten a better look. Hearing her mention Psych Evaluations was priceless though.
Very nice to see some more back story for Diggle. Though I'm curious to see how Waller fits in in Ollie's past with the Island. She obviously knows who Slade Wilson is as Ollie mentioned him being alive to her thus meaning she thinks his dead as well.
-
They must have met on the island and witnessed Slade's death together.
If last night could been seen as a pilot episode for Suicide Squad tv show, I think I'd be more invested in them than Agents of Shield. Far more interesting potentially. Maybe replace Waller with CCH Pounder for more commanding attitude.

She's slated to star in NCIS: New Orleans if it gets picked up

Suicide Squad TV Show would be amazing. Would instantly become the greatest thing on television ever

Can't wait!

So unlike last week's "Suicide Squad", "Birds of Prey" wasn't about the actual group. I don't even think seeds were planted for a future friendship between Canary and Huntress, not even Laurel and the Huntress (if Laurel ever becomes Canary). I suppose Helena no longer living everyday to kill her father could lead to future episode where she teams up with Sarah and gets "Oracle" type help from Felicity. Just need to figure out how to get her out of jail (waves at Amanda Waller). Plus she might be grateful Sarah didn't kill her.
Still a fun stand alone episode where we got to see two fights between Huntress and Canary. Love those two individually. Laurel also showed off her fighting skills, which are above average at best, eliminating any chance of her becoming Black Canary, unless Ted Grant shows up to train her. I personally love Sarah as Canary and hope she never dies or gets replaced.
Couple of seeds potentially planted
1. Ollie called Roy Speedy and he doesn't want to be called that. (this is for sure)
2. Officer Lance called the Arrow and right in front of him Oliver picked up and flashed his phone to him. He might eventually put things together.
3. Laurel finding out who Canary is -( this is also for sure).
With Thea getting kidnapped, she might also find out who Oliver really is. Tonight she said Oliver is the only one to never lie to her. Right time to shatter that part of her world. I don't know if she'll die this season, but it's a possibility to push Roy into his Arsenal's dark path, maybe even take on Speedy as tribute to her. Seems a lot more plausible than Laurel becoming Black Canary.
Another possibility is Merlyn coming to the rescue. Thea has no idea about her real father. She can't die now and not go through that meltdown. Merlyn and Arrow team up against Slade possibly. That'd be kind of cool. Maybe Meryn trains Roy?
-
I was hoping so much that Laurel would die in this episode. Her character has annoyed me through most of this show.
The Speedy reference was great as I was confused as hell when Ollie actually called Thea that in like..Episode 1 or 2 since that is the original name Arsenal went by. Clever on Arsenal on how to get Thea to break up with him. When he tried the first time and she just said "No we aren't breaking up" everybody in the room just went "Wait...you can do that?! SHIT! Wish I knew that."
I don't think Thea is being kidnapped. I think Slade is "genuinely" helping her just to get close to her. Think of how much that would drive Ollie up a wall to have her being close with Slade.
I think Huntress will either end up on the SS at this point or will somehow be released. Hell it looked like Ollie slipped her a lock pick or something in the interview room. She'll be back but will it be as an anti-hero or a villain still is up in the air. They are using her well though as she means good with what she does but doing it in a way the hero's do not agree with.
I think Lance honestly knows at this point. Especially with the phone incident which was extremely well acted by the two of them. He's just playing along as he is likely struggling to deal with that on top of his one daughter being an alcoholic, the other back from the dead as an assassin, and his ex-wife shooting him down.
Speaking of alcoholism, did they even research how AA works? SHE'S GOING TO TWO MEETINGS A DAY?! Christ when does she have time to do anything, especially be a lawyer.
-
Based on the trailer for next week Thea is kidnapped for sure.

I see that was not on the download I have XD

That was tough to watch, good episode, but Team Arrow and friends got taken to the hole every single time. Plus it was a game changer episode with a couple of huge secrets revealed.
Oliver loses the company and Summer Glau's character finally becomes relevant. We've seen this exact scenario with different versions of Batman, so there are lots of way for Oliver to get back the company back. I got very excited when she said "the sins of the father are the sins of the son" because she said father in my hopes that she might be Ravager, but now I'm curious what her motivations really are.
Big twist with which secret Slade told Thea. She now knows about her real father, but how would Slade even know that? I was hoping Merlyn would show up to save Thea, but it's possible the two are acquaintances and that's how Slade knows.
Team Arrow loses Roy. This plants the seeds for Arsenal's inevitable path, except we don't know who or how he'll ever get his training. Sarah has tried, but he's a rookie with actual weapons.
Slade tells Laurel Oliver's secret and I think a show like Smallville would have given her amnesia the next episode, but I don't think things will ever be the same again after this episode. Kind of silly in a way because Slade just went around gossiping and spilling secrets to girls in Oliver's life.
My biggest problem with the Slade storyline was his irrational hatred for Oliver, blaming him for killing Shado, even more than the actual shooter. Plus Shado was Oliver's girl. They barely showed any scenes with Slade and Shado, other than nursing Slade back to health. It bugs me when Oliver never tells Slade any of that. But tonight we find out Slade a is a schizo with an evil manifestation of Shado telling him what to do. It sort of fills in the holes for me.
It was also cool seeing Deathstroke in action while in costume. They really nailed the look and raised the bar on what he could look like on film.
-
Ollie going from a baddass rescue scene to total deflation was great.
-
I adore Summer Glau, but whenever I see her on a show I get worried
-
I was hoping she'd be
Ravager and it's coming true

Holy shit yes. That is fantastic news and that outfit looks great.
I was really hoping Slade went to Laurel's to kill her XD
I don't know how they do it but they keep managing to raise the bar on what this show/kind of show can be on a weekly basis. If DC pulls their heads out of their ass they have the perfect launching point to finally have a consistent Movie/TV Universe that would likely bury Marvel's at the rate their going (Outside Winter Soldier). Just need to wait and see how The Flash and Constantine work out.
-
Gotham as well.
-
I honestly have no interest in Gotham. Just feels wrong to me. I'll prolly wait to see what others say and play catch up if I have too. It's on FOX after all...
Speaking of which I also get worried when Summer Glau is in anything as that usually means it is cancelled within a few episodes XD
-
Isn't that Fitz (Simmons?) from Shield in the show tonight? With an implication that she's going to be part of Flash?
Hedging her bets?
-
Felicity's Star lab friend? That's Danielle Panabaker. She's done a bunch of work. I most remember her from Sky High where she basically played Poison Ivy, the Friday the 13th remake, Mr. Brooks, and Mad Men as well. She's going to be Killer Frost one day on The Flash I suppose and the other guys is supposed to be Vibe one day.
The episode itself, kind of a setup show for next week really. It wasn't filler because I felt important things took place, but I was expecting a big showdown between Slade's army and Team Arrow by the end.
I think my favorite part of the episode was actually Quentin Lance going full Commissioner Gordon about Arrow's identity to Laurel. I think he's been purposely turning a blind eye to all the clues he's witnessed first hand that it's Oliver. It always comes back full circle to Batman. As a man, Arrow is vulnerable, human, full of pain. But as a symbol, he's the hero Starling City needs and deserves right now. On a side note, I just love listening to the actor talk in general. Chicken Cacciatore!
I liked slow epiphany Laurel kept coming to through out the episode about Ollie and his sister being Arrow and Canary and accepting it as a good thing. Last episode Slade went full gossip girl dropping secrets left and right. It pushed Thea away, but brought Laurel closer. This show needs more hugs.
Thea needs to get off her high horse by the way.
The fight and action scenes on this show always deliver. Loved Slade ambushing the team at the Arrow Cave (quiver?) and later against Slade and Isabelle. With Isabelle nearly dead, I'm assuming Slade injects her with his blood and turns her into Ravager. While she clearly isn't Rose Wilson, she is Ravager the same way Sarah Lance isn't Dinah Lance, but is Black Canary. The show does a nice work with liberties.
With the cure of the Mirakuru on the way, I'm guessing Roy loses his powers and can no longer depend on the super serum. He'll be forced to train with Ollie again or maybe Merlyn. I'm wondering if Slade will ever get cured. He's too overpowered already with his natural fighting ability.
Love this show
-
"Don't forget who taught you, boy."
Slades like Ras Al Gulh and Bane wrapped into one.
And yeah, Thea basically earned a slap slap in the face with calling her dad a liar for choosing to raise her even though he knew she wasn't his biological daughter.
-
Isn't that Fitz (Simmons?) from Shield in the show tonight? With an implication that she's going to be part of Flash?

I haven't caught up, but Fitz is the Scottish dude, Simmons is the British gal.
-
I just looked her up Elizabeth Henstridge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Henstridge) - She looked like this Danielle Panabaker who was on Arrow last night
-
Looking at the Flash entry on IMDB at it looks like they have John Wesley Shipp who played flash on the 1990 series in for at least the pilot
-
Newest episode was definitely a set up episode. Not much to hate about it other than Thea. Laurel was even bare-able for once. I figured it was Roy who was being used to provide the blood. Slade isn't dumb. He's a tactical genius. As such he'd no better than to use himself. Loved the Iris name drop btw :wink_mini:
-
Just watched episode. HOLY CRAP!
-
Think she's really dead?
-
I'm not sure I'm liking the direction the last few episodes have taken. Oliver and his team are pretty much getting steam rolled week after week. It's becoming a downer. This would be okay in a movie or binge watching this season since there has to be some sort of payback for the audience, but wow Oliver needs a win fast for me.
Moira's death was shocking, but I felt she went too soon with the reveal that she knows Ollie's secret. Plus she had loose ends about Ras and Merlyn that were never explored. She was always a mysterious character you never knew where she stood and I found her really interesting because of that. Since the car hit them as she was about to tell them about Merlyn, I'm guessing the show will get the message out somehow. Maybe by Moira's will. I'll miss her on the show.
I'm wondering if Moira's death cancels out Sarah dying. It's always on every Arrow message board when Sarah will die so Laurel can take over. I think her death would be so obvious, it'll never happen, so they did something like Moira instead.
Sarah quitting seemed a little too Smallville for me. I like you too much to be with you. Come on. I thought this show was avoiding classic CW stuff like that. Hopefully she comes back to motivate Ollie to keep being the Arrow and stop Slade. She went to meet a friend, maybe Nyssa?
The Suicide Squad will have to come into play at some point as well, along with Merlyn stepping in for Thea in some capacity.
Also with Oliie having a son, Conner? Is he going to be a character in the show?
I need for Ollie to have a win, but I can't see this wrapping up in a happy ending with three episodes left.
-
I was on an NCIS board last night and mentioned Gibbs's ex GF could come back because the actress was out of a job and someone automatically assumed Arrow had been cancelled
-
Hmm well not much to say about tonight's episode. Nothing really happened except setting up the next episode...entirely.
I suppose the biggest thing was Laurel finally confronting Olliver in the Arrow Cave and finally joining Team Arrow.
Ravager debuted and she looked good in motion.
Is the Suicide Squad just not going to play a part in this at all? Seemed like the Suicide Squad episode really built them up, had that awesome Harley tease, Olliver went to Waller...and then nothing. The iron was hot, you had the fans eating out of your hand, do something with it. Maybe season 3.
I liked seeing Merlyn in the previews for next week. About damn time.
-
Was a big episode despite nothing major happening. Roommate and I were also questioning where the hell the Suicide Squad is at while all this is happening.
Also, S.T.A.R. Labs contacting Felicity. Likely the cure is ready. They're going to need it fast :wink_mini:
-
I think we got a glimpse of the new Arrow Cave next season.
-
Very likely since that stupid cunt Thea decided to be all whiny bitch and not sign the paper. She was told sign or they lose everything so know excuse to be shocked you're losing the club now bitch
-
Yeah I was hoping Roschev would have brought that up. Thea got away conscience free.
-
Was so sad too. She was such a like-able character until the last few weeks. Now we are wishing she'd die just as much as Laurel XD
-
I noticed there's a free promotional Arrow skin for Injustice: Gods Among Us, with lines from the guy who plays him on the show. Tried him out a bit in ladder mode, and wouldn't you guess who beat me halfway through? And I was on a role too. Felt like the difficulty spiked pretty hard once I hit Slade. :laugh_mini:
-
That was a fast paced and tension building episode. Tons of well shot action and everyone brought the acting chops leading into the finale.
On a quick side note, anyone feel most of this season has resembled a bit of The Dark Knight Rises? City under siege, Talia/Isabelle sleeps with the CEO of the company and gains control of something important to use against the city, Slade/Bane, the position of the polie, etc.
Anyways, great to see Sarah back. With her becoming a public hero, it worries me again that they're setting up her death for the finale. Everything is going too well. Family is together. Everyone knows who and what she is. That's not how this world works.
Really enjoyed the Brother Blood twist with him choosing the city over Slade. He really did want to help, but in a Batman Begins Ras Al Ghul twisted sorta way. With him dead, does this open up for a Mayor Olliver Queen storyline next season? Happened in the comics. Just sayin.
Also great to see Merlyn back finally. Anti-heroes are always almost fun. I don't think Thea shot him. Not falling for these types of fake outs. She shoots someone sneaking up on them in a Deathstroke mask obviously. Hope to see he and Olliver team up at least once. Much like with Brother Blood, there's no way Olliver can ever let loose after the things he's done. Will Thea go on the dark path since Roy was hit with the cure?
Amanda Waller is getting better on screen, but I still prefer the older heavy set version. With the cure in their hands, I'm sure they'll hit the deadline. I'm wondering if they'll hit Slade with it as well.
With Detective Lance gaining his old rank back and the police backing the Arrow, I'm wondering if Quentin gets promoted even more and really does become the Commissioner Gordon of the show next season. They did put him in charge of the entire thing.
I liked how hesitant Olliver was to inject Roy, but after speaking with Waller he wastes no time.
"I have failed this city!" - Olliver
Things I want to see in the finale.
1. Island Ollie vs. Slade and how he lost his eye.
2. Find out if Sarah lives or dies. Based on the previews, it might have nothing to do with Slade.
3. Slade wants to kill who Olliver loves the most. These are all women in his lives: Sarah, Laurel, Felicity, and Thea. I think he actually loves all of them equally in a way. Might be Starling City.
4. Flash tv show trailer. It's time.
5. Big Deathstroke fight between he and Arrow.
6. Ravager vs. Nyssa or Canary.
Sad the season is coming to and end, but excited for the finale and next season. Fantastic show.

Really really good episode and has me hyped for next week's finale.
I see where you are gertting the TDKR analogy and it is similar but it's also not anything new.
I actually think it'll be either Quintin or, for the love of god please, Laurel. Sarah is just too good as Canary. Hell they are calling her that now.
Brother Blood was cool. Surprised he was let out of the building with the cure XD I think they will go Mayor Queen. They have a lot of leverage for him to get elected after all this.
Merlyn being back is great. Hoping he takes Thea and trains her. She didn't shoot him though. To obvious.
Waller is nice. I still miss big Waller too but she's been gone since The New 52 in all forms of DC media.
Again, I think he'll be getting killed. If not I doubt Commissioner. Maybe Captain.
"You have till Dawn." Well shit...fuck it. TEST TIME!
When he said the failed this city roommate and I immediately motioned to stabbing self in side of head with an arrow
For the finale I want to actually SEE Flash show up. Help set up for his show's release this summer
-
I like #3 ahead that Starling City is Slade's target
and I also like the Flash suggestion
I'm a sucker for crossovers, I hope they keep a flow between the 2 shows, like Chicago Fire and Chicago PD

Promo pic for the finale. Merlyn, Roy, Arrow, Canary, and Nyssa all on the same side

Deadshot also seen in the trailer.

Solid finale. That's how superhero finales are done, if you know what I mean!
First thought. Sarah didn't die, but she did leave and gave Laurel the Canary jacket. But I doubt that was the last of Sarah or Nyssa. I could see a situation where Laurel does get legitimized as Black Canary and she Sarah co-exist. I don't like the idea of Katie Cassidy taking over the character, but I trust the show to pull it off one day. Look how long they took with Roy, or still taking with Roy I should say.
Shutting down Slade was almost too easy, but since they had the cure plus Nyssa's army, it was the perfect recipe. Nice to see a super villain not die. Slade can still be Deathstroke without powers. And Ravager can still exist oneday with Isabelle actually killed. I liked that there was some actual strategy used to get the final blow on Slade, using Felicity and Oliver figuring out the surveillance. Obviosuly there's some real feelings between Felicity and Olliver that was planted way before this episode. Ollicity ftw!
Thea will not be missed. Turning her into the female Merlyn (Artemis?) might actually be the best direction for her character. She was on her high horse all season and that high horse road away on another high horse this episode.
With the island flashbacks now moving on to his time with Amanda Waller, I hope this guarantees more Suicide Squad next season. That Harley tease really left me hangin.
Excited to see what they come up with for next season, probably get a trailer teaser at SDCC.
-
Ollicity
I will smack you
-
You're more of a Canarrow guy like me?
-
:dash_mini:
I can arrow you in the neck!
-
We finally know how Slade lost his eye, and learned Ollie didn't let him live, as we assumed. Instead, he made the mistake of not curing him before stabbing him in the brain.
The effects of that drug are insane.. Like Wolverine insane.
-
Based on his fight with Slade in this finale, I will concede he could beat Bale Batman and even Bane from that film.
-
He could. Ollie is a fucking baller in combat
-
Devon Aoki comes out of retirement to play Katana in season 3. She'll be a big part of those Hong Kong flashbacks.
-
Brandon Routh cast as Ray Palmer (The Atom) and will be the new owner of Queen Consolidated.
-
From Superman to the Atom. That's gotta be a letdown
-
Lol.
Well, after you play the big S, just about any other character would be a step down. In DC there's Superman, Batman, and everyone else.
Was never a fan of Atom, though, but it's got loads of drama potential.
-
Good to see he's still getting superhero work. Arrow is sorta the center of the DC tv universe and he adds some nice familiar star power.
-
He was in Chuck too. Never found him particularly impressive
-
As far as superhero related media, he was also in Scott Pilgrim.

-
He was in Chuck too. Never found him particularly impressive
I didn't see Chuck, but I thought he made a good Clarke Kent, which is what casting Superman involves.
-
I never actually saw him as superman
-
Good to see he's still getting superhero work. Arrow is sorta the center of the DC tv universe and he adds some nice familiar star power.
are there (currently) any other dc tv shows? other than toons? easy to be the center when you're the only one? ;)
-
well be that as it may, Arrow is a very successful show for DC/Warner/CW. It's going in strong for it's third season, which will air the same time as Constantine, Flash, and Gotham. He's getting a pretty prominent role as well, as Ollie's foil and rival. That's pretty big of DC to let the face of the failed Superman Returns franchise to get a big starring role again.
-
will constantine, flash or gotham tie into arrow? guessing flash will but not sure on the other 2.
-
Flash for show, doubt the other two will
check that, Gotham is on Fox, and I believe Constantine is on NBC, so no, there will be no connections at all
-
It's a very similar situation to the film studios, except in this case CW = Marvel Studios. Arrow and Flash are building an expanded universe. Arrow focuses on non-meta humans and Flash is all about super powers, but both are in the same world. FOX has Gotham and it's self contained. Same with NBC and Constantine.
One huge advantage CW has is that it's directly connected with Warner Bros. They don't have to pay for the rights to these characters and are given a lot more freedom to do what they want. That's why I hope Arrow and Flash don't end up connected to the movies and limit what they can do storytelling wise.
It must be costing FOX a lot of money to get rights to Batman characters.

Season 3 trailer. They barely started filming the last two weeks, so not much.

Devon Aoki replaced by The Wolverine's Rila Fukushima as Katana due to Aoki's scheduling conflicts.
I love Aoki's look as she looks like a comic book character, but I loved Rila in the Wolverine, so this is still a good casting choice.

I loved the Brave & The Bold episodes with R Lee Ermy as Wildcat
-
Matt Nable cast as Ras Al Ghul.
Interesting bit of news, Liam Neeson offered to play the part last week.
-
Wait, Liam Neeson offered his services and they went somewhere else? Had to cost too much, BC why else would they do that? Even if they didn't want to link it to any of the cinematic versions, you had a high quality actor who played it well offering his services.
-
if I had to guess, this guy was already cast and in mind for a while. Can't afford Liam Neeson, he'd be extremely distracting to fit into their already established universe and not mix with Nolan's universe, which people already assosciate the show with, and they have their own version of Ras in mind. He already has a history on the show with the main characters.
-
That was my thoughts as well on the situation
-
Captain Boomerang cast and it's the best one yet. Once again from the highly talented Spartacus pool.

Awesome
-
Well we're back for season 3 tonight.
And for those not caught up, both seasons of Arrow are on Netflix to binge watch in HD.
-
the new Vertigo is also the bad guy on Blacklist
-
well that wasn't very nice
-
Well that was a pretty tame episode for a premiere til the end where Sarah dies? Is she dead? I assume so, but she could just be crippled and alive, still leaving the mantle open for Laurel. If Huntress comes back for a real Birds of Prey, Sarah could ironically be Oracle while Laurel is Canary.
I hope that's the last time they tease Ollicity since the conclusion is always the same for every romance with Oliver. Sarah ended her relationship with Oliver the exact same way pretty much.
Routh as Ray Palmer was fun in the brief moments. I guess this is where Felicity is headed and Palmer will be Oliver's civilian rival. Curious how they do a super powered Ray Palmer on this show.
Another Prison Break alumni as the new Count Vertigo, the 52 version? Good actor, but he really hammed it up Gotham style.
Nice tie in with Flash from last night's premiere.
So if that was Merlin that killed Sarah, Nyssa is going to comeback for blood. We know Ras is eventually coming as well. So I don't know if we'll ever get a Merlin/Arrow team up if he's responsible for Sarah's death plus the Thea factor.
Hope things pick up next week.
-
Ollicity while cute in concept just shouldn't happen and I'm hoping this is the last of the teasing.
Insane how all the new characters they announced for this season pretty much showed up in the first episode. Wondering how they continue to tie in Wildcat outside that boxing match or was that it? Wonder if they are going to have Palmer develop the shrinking tech.
Glad to see Detective Lance not dead but then that tease half way through almost made me stop watching.
That ending though. Just fucking bullshit. She was great as Canary and now you go and kill her?! Really afraid of Captain Lance now. Got a feeling he's going to get offed at some point this season to fully turn Laurel into Canary which I am not happy about. However, I don't think it's Merlyn who killed her. There's no motivation there. Thinking Nyssa or somebody else involved in the League of Assassins considering Ras is in the season and they're going to play a large role
-
Please stop saying ollicity - neither of you are 13 year old shipper girls
-
Please stop saying ollicity - neither of you are 13 year old shipper girls
You are exactly right. Unfortunately I live with a Tumblr Femnazi. You know the type, shipping everyone, losing their mind over children's shows, etc. She says it all the time and unfortunately it started rubbing off on me from just hearing it so much
-
Please stop saying ollicity - neither of you are 13 year old shipper girls
Are they worse than OUAT shippers? I keep hearing SwanQueen shippers saying that Emma and Regina are the perfect Lesbian Couple. Completely ignoring that they're both heterosexual and one is constantly trying to kill the other.
-
After what happened to Sarah last night, you won't see me shipping Canarrow anymore.
Might be time for Raylicity anyway *shruggs*
-
Zandrax - I can't stand the entire concept of shipping - I post on an NCIS board and they talk about GABBY and Slash and the whole TIVA bullshit caused CBS to disallow posting to their facebook pages. Not to mention some of those freaks are harrasing the cast members. They gone so far as to ship the actors as if they were characters.
SCB - I will kick your ass :dash_mini: :mad_mini: :fr:
-
RedMarch and Zandrax I can understand, but never figured SCB for a shipper. :)
First time I heard shipping talk, I had no idea what they were talking about and actually had to Google the concept. Wrote it off as something Fanfiction.net and 4chan freak lingo.
-
This was another okay episode. We only got a small dose of superhero action with Arrow and Roy taking on that generic archer. But they setup some good stuff for the season.
I'm actually really impressed with Katie Cassidy's performance tonight. Laurel was completely believable in her emotions, wanting revenge, and planting the seeds for Canary 2.0. If this is where she's headed, I'm on board now and looking forward to her journey. Bring on Ted Grant.
Felicity is moving on to working with Ray Palmer. Every scene with Routh is genuinely enjoyable. He might never be the Superman archetype again, but maybe he was meant to be more of the Tony Stark type guy?
The small Thea cameo was enjoyable with Merlyn being delighted to finally have an evil progeny. Tommy couldn't cut.
Speaking of Tommy, the Hong Kong flashbacks so far don't measure up to the island stuff yet. Amell still does a nice job of sounding completely different in them.
Hopefully the pace of this show picks up. Last season this was one of my favorite tv shows in general and I feel guilty loving the past two episodes of Flash so much more.
As a weekly superhero show round up, I'm going to have to rank them like this.
1. Flash - all around fun, good amount of superhero action, plus character development and following up on the mystery of Wells.
2. Agents of Shield - felt like filler and a departure from the stories of the past couple of episodes, but still fun with May and Coulson, plus it finished off the episode strong.
3. Arrow - less fun and more setup for the rest of the season, but headed in the right direction, plus Katie Cassidy's performance.
4. Gotham - the Penguin is great.
-
I'm really hating Waller, in ways I never hated on Slade.
Ollie would have been justified to kill her at the first chance, considering what she pulled. (Assuming his guard isn't just lying to him about his family being on the line.. And even then, Waller still has enough confirmed scumbag tactics.)
-
Vinnie Jones cast as Brick.
He's sort of a meta human in the comics, but I imagine they'll re-work him as a formidable physical human for Ollie to fight.
-
Damn that was good. After two really bleak and dark episodes, we had non-stop fun in this one.
No costumes, but plenty of action at Corto Maltese.
I like the Tyler Durden training between Thea and Merlin. I give the show credit for not making Thea unlikable during all of this, including between Ollie and Roy. Guess she's not coming back as a villain against Roy. At least not yet. She might be more Artemis than Cheshire.
Fun stuff with Ollie, Roy, and Diggle teaming up. And Olliver knows his firearms. I was expecting another Hong Kong flashback explaining that. I'm sure it's coming. I loved Olliver creating the weapons out of pieces of items from their hotel room.
Loved the Laurel stuff. Surprised how mercilessly she was beaten by that guy because it was realistic and exactly what she needed to get some real training. I guess we are getting a young Ted Grant on Laurel's journey to Black Canary 2.0. Lance still has no idea Sarah is dead.
Nice segway to Felicity leaving for Flash next week. Routh in his mini scenes as Palmer is still enjoyable, even though it's just small talk. Hope he joins Team Arrow by the time they crossover with Flash.
And a great cliffhanger with Nyssa showing up. Next week we get back into costumes and a ton of archery action. Hopefully Ras has a surprise debut.
So superhero week recap time. Constantine debuts Friday and I've seen it, although there might be a revised pilot on Friday. But as of now:
Arrow and Agents of Shield tied this week for my #1 spots. Both delivered in their own way.
Flash #2. No complaints, just doing their freak of the week formula before Captain Cold and Felicity show up next week to liven things up.
Gotham - well it's Gotham.
-
I was wondering what Ray Palmer was staring at so intently on the computer screen after Felicity leaves. It was the blue prints for OMAC.
OMAC seems too big of a thing for the Arrow-verse and more suited for Flash, especially with Wells creating that metahuman prison on the last episode.
However, I could see Amanda Waller being a part of it.
-
This was quite fantastic.
John Barrowman as Merlyn is a scene stealer and a really fun actor to just watch on screen. He adds a great swagger to just everything he does and I'm hoping he gets as much screen time as possible. Looks like we'll finally get an Arrow/Merlyn team up...down the road when Ras and the League come full force. I'd love to see Malcolm have a conversation with Penguin from Gotham.
Speaking of scene stealers, Malcolm wasn't the only one. Nyssa does it every time. I love her intensity and all the choreography they always give her. The little tease between she, Olliver, and Merlyn was epic.
Still enjoying Thea 2.0. Was hoping to see her fight Nyssa, but she's clearly out of her league. No pun intended. Also enjoying Laurel's road to Canary 2.0 and all the scenes with Nyssa and Olliver.
Anything with Ray Palmer and Felicity would have put this over the top, but really enjoyed this episode. This show is always dark and heavy and I feel I need to watch the Flash to just cool off.
-
And we got a glimpse of Ra's.
Wonder if we'll get Talia or Shiva in on this, too.
-
Shiva I could see. Talia would be redundant with the large role Nyssa playing, calling herself the heir to the demon.
-
What the hell was that? Roy killed Sarah?
And how will he end up with her nickname
-
Why would he end up with her nicknake?
Well that episode was fun. It could have easily been filler, but I love Felicity and we got her origin story as well.
Great multiple training montages to start off the episode, ending with Felicity training like a normal person.
Loved all the mini scenes with Ray Palmer. I'm really looking forward a Ray Palmer centric episode. I think he knows more about Felicity's night time activities then he let's on. That's why he's cool with her coming and going as she pleases, plus she sees the same potential in her as Team Arrow.
As far as the ending of Roy killing Sarah, it obviously can't be that straight forward and I'm really curious for the explanation. Glad to see in the previews he comes clean right away about it, unlike Laurel still not telling Lance Sarah is dead.
-
Because when I read comics, Arrow's sidekick was named Speedy - and that's what Oliver calls Thea. I suppose I should have been more specific with that "her"
I agree with everything else you wrote
-
Oh, well Roy has had three different superhero names in the comics. Speedy, Red Arrow, and Arsenal. I think they said he'll eventually be called Arsenal, his more recent comic name.
Roy made a joke last season with, "don't call me Speedy".
-
oh, ok, thanks for clearing that up
-
Katie Cassidy's stunt double in her Canary 2.0 costume. It's pretty different than Sarah's, but I like it.
-
Well that was great.
Ted Grant vs Arrow was a fantastic tease between future allies. And the boxing glove arrow was all the fan service I needed to walk away satisfied. I hope that doesn't mean Wildcat stays retired. You never know with this show. They really take their time with certain costumed heroes like Roy not getting his suit til the 3rd season. We don't even get enough Huntress every season.
Looks like Roy didn't kill Sarah, but I liked that they didn't forget Roy killing a cop last season. His character work was great this episode. And looks like he finally got his Arsenal name.
-
Agreed with all of this. Good they didn't white wash Roy killing a cop.
Only thing I didn't like, was the heavy handed "cut him loose" themes. Especially this exchange:
“Are you telling me to abandon him?” “Yes, Oliver. If that’s what it means to find justice for Sara.”
-
Cupid was okay. I think my main problem with her was where did she get all her bad ass skills and training from, other than police training? Everyone on the show kind of has a Nolanized backstory on their skills, including Laurel, who lacks them. But I liked that once she fought Olliver one on one, she was pretty useless against him and that made it all right.
Putting her on Suicide Squad is actually a really good fit. Although they kind of dropped the bad news on us by hinting that Harley Quinn is most likely gone and replaced by Cupid. Wondering if both Gotham on Fox and the upcoming Suicide Squad movie erased her from the future of Arrow plans.
Not a huge fan of the CW romance moments. We knew this was coming when Palmer/Routh was cast, but hopefully it stays a side story. One thing I did notice was Palmer pulled away from Felicity's kiss. I'm assuming it's the same reason Olliver won't be with her. Gotta stay focused on being a superhero.
Palmer is a very likable character and I was excited to see the blue prints for the Atom Suit. They couldn't get Blue Beetle, but that doesn't stop them from making Palmer into him anyway. I'm still calling him the Tony Stark of this universe and so far it's holding to be true, all the way to his Iron Man suit.
Did we need to build up to the Thea and DJ scene? I'm assuming it goes somewhere, but felt way out of place for this show without a pay off.
This was also the best Hong Kong flashback they've had. Katana in action was bad ass and she's finally becoming a character. But wasn't Olliver a bad ass on the island last season? Now he seems to be a fish out of water and back to a helpless billionaire who doesn't know how to survive, in an apartment?
And lastly, Captain Boomerang teaser was great. Other than the actor, who I loved on Spartacus, just looking at that boomerang on screen looked lethal, even before he threw it. I believe he leads Team Arrow to Flash's city and we have our crossover episodes after Thanksgiving week.
-
Extremely solid episode and I think it was the right time to use somebody like Cupid. It allowed the episode to focus on the important character story moments without the episode filling like filler. If it was just about hunting her down it would have been a filler episode. If it wasn't her and some other villain with no indirect tie to the characters emotional state it would have been filler. Only let down was the DJ stuff who I kept waiting to here a name for as a reveal of a future character but there wasn't one. Quick IMDB look reveals his name to be Chase. Guessing this dude

That is going to be so awesome
-
I might watch it.
Getting a very strong Batman vibe from Oliver and a Superman boyscout one from Barry :P
-
Barry has so much more of a sense of humor and personality than Supes. Superman is kind of a dick
No Arrow tonight, stupid shitty movie instead
-
Well the timeline of the show is meant to be in sync with Flash for next week. Flash wasn't shown election night, so we got an extra episode of the Flash this week.
-
I might watch it.

No question.
Barry's such a noob, Ollie beating him down makes a lot more sense though. :good_mini:
-
Deathstroke returns to Arrow in the second half of this season.
-
That doesn't surprise me as he was awesome. Also, in the episode where Ollie and Nyssa were hunting down Merlyn, Merlyn makes the comment to Ollie of no prison can hold him. Not even his little island of Lian Yu. Upon saying that Ollie's entire expression changed to one of "Oh shit he's right, and I put Slade there who is even more dangerous, cunning, and powerful. Uh..."
-
Wouldn't it be nice if a hero could defeat a villain and have it stick?
-
Actually wouldn't be surprised if he's in Suicide Squad.
-
Wouldn't it be nice if a hero could defeat a villain and have it stick?
Yes and no. Yes as it's helps it seem like they are actually doing something. No as it also starts reducing the pool of characters they are can draw from. I think what they need to do is find a middle ground. Character gets defeated and goes away for awhile (Season to a Season and a half TV show wise). Then something huge happens and they end up breaking free or get broken out. This way they aren't present all the time thus not getting over saturated, a difference seems to have been made, and it's a nice throwback.
Actually wouldn't be surprised if he's in Suicide Squad.
Meant to say it in my post above but this is most likely what it will be. Especially since they've established Lian Yu is an A.R.G.U.S. facility
-
Arrow show runner said after filming tonight and tomorrow's crossver with Flash, he's re-thinking the no powers rule for Arrow.
-
I didn't even need to see the second picture to get the reference.

Superman executed General Zod, and it stuck. ;)
Mainstream comics are designed to be perpetual cash cows, so deaths pretty much a revolving door for anyone popular (But if they're not, then say goodbye.)
Vertigo and Manga are a different story, because they're designed around a beginning/middle/end format, with actual progression and character development. Sandman, 100 bullets, and even Fables has characters die by the dozens (Fables blurs the line a bit by giving characters an after life or having them exist as ghosts though.)
-
Another fun episode and follow up to last night's crossover. The tone of this was very different. It wasn't like this and last night's episode were filmed together and just aired separately. It was Ollie's story with Flash in it.
Team Flash interacting in the "Arrow Cave" was lots of fun.
Captain Boomerang was awesome. He was a very Nolan-esque bad ass. Loved when he was taking apart Argus along with Arrow and Roy. I'm guessing if he was solely a Flash villain, he'd be a lot more powerful and less grounded. All he'd need is a better game plan, much like Captain Cold.
Arrow torturing criminals is something else. Batman will punch answers out of criminals, but Olliver shooting arrows into people and digging into their flesh was just really dark, but I liked it.
This was the best Lyla they've written. Usually she's sort of Diggle's generic lover on the side, but some great character work from her tonight. Loved that conversation she had with Olliver about how basically the ends justify the means with the type of threats that are really out there, meanwhile Diggle and Flash show them some humanity and bring them back down.
Barry totally missed the point and appeal of the salmon ladder to the ladies. It's not how fast and easily you do it, it's how good and bad ass Olliver makes it look.
I was hoping we would have Detective West meet Captain Lance in either of the two episodes, but maybe next time. Lance did have a nice reference to Bart Allen.
So Boomerang now has a prison cell next to Deathstroke. What could possibly go wrong. I smell another Spartacus reunion. Have Amanda Waller recruit both and you'll have three Spartacus cast members sharing screen time.
I liked Cisco making suit and weapon upgrades for Arrow. Anytime he gets something new, Felicity can just say it came from Star Labs.
And that ending was pretty much the ending of Rocky 3.
Oh man, mid season finales next week. Going to be great. Ras on Arrow and Reverse Flash on Flash.
-
Awesome episode, and a perfect title for it, Worlds Finest. That's usually what you call Superman/Batman crossovers, but Flash/Arrow really earned that.
Did I miss a plot point, or was the bomb thing kind of glossed over? Something about a radio frequency being used to track them, which they got from.......?
-
Dan I was specifically talking about tv, but good points
-
Well the episode was called The Brave & the Bold actually.

WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED!
-
Looks like Ollies getting dipped in a lazarus pit.
Hope the show remembers those things make you temporarily insane. There's a reason Batman would rather die then use one in the comics.
-
Well no reason to watch this show again now that Olliver is dead.
That was gut wrenching, no pun intended. Whole time I was wanting Batman to show up and save Olliver. I was also hoping Olliver was playing possum at the end and he'd turn it all around, but nope, he was nowhere ready for Ras, despite those battles with Slade and Merlyn. This was like Nolan Batman's first fight with Bane.
I'm thinking this will be a Dark Knight Rises situation when Bruce was broken and in prison and he rebuilt himself, while everyone thinks Olliver is dead for several episodes. Roy will have to step up as the Arrow of Star City and Laurel will step up in costume, despite being a rookie and it will not go smoothly.
This opens the door for Ray Palmer do fulfill his own destiny as The Atom. Why does this always happen to Felicity?
So Thea was Sarah's killer as many predicted, but under mind control from Merlyn. Looks like Merlyn is still evil and not on some redemption arc. This is a good thing since he's such a fun villain. With the complications of his daughter being Olliver's sister, I still predict an unlikely team up between the two archers against the League at some point.
Hopefully everything does come out at some point. I think Roy already knows Thea did it. I want to see how he deals with that. As well as Laurel, plus Thea knowing she killed Sarah because of Merlyn.
Ninja Thea vs Arrow was fun and interesting because it was something new for both of them.
So did they scrap the Katana character by killing her off? Her husband seems to have replaced everything she was rumored to do. Wondering if she'll show up in typical back from the dead Arrow fashion later or Devon Aoki dropping out caused the writers to shift her role to the husband.
Well Ras was done extremely well in his official debut. Really ballsy with that ending. That was a finale.
-
I got no issues with Ollie "dying". This is a comic book based show, and we all know how permanent comic book deaths are. Plus, Ollie has died and been resurrected in the comics, so at least on a certain level they show's producers are staying true to the source material. I did have issues with how bad ass Ra's was. Ra's is one of my all-time favorite villains, and he is totally hard, but come on? In wrestling that was what we call a squash match. A squash match's whole purpose is to get the fans to see how good a particular wrestler is while making the guy he tosses around an after thought. The fan isn't even supposed to remember who the poor sap was that got his ass kicked. So do you really want to cast your titular character in that role? Yes there is drama in seeing how they bring that character back and make him whole again, but come on. That is a wee bit overboard if you ask me. Ra's SHOULD be a total bad ass, but the hero shouldn't be so overmatched either. Just my opinion.
-
Like I said in my recap, this was like Nolan Batman vs. Bane. Olliver is always such a bad ass, even making Wildcat look silly in a fight, he needed to be brought back down, rather than always being invincible in combat. Overcoming adversity is far more interesting.
Funny thing is Ras looked a bit out of shape when he took his shirt off, but when you got a 360 view of him, the guy's back and upper body was far more developed and battle hardened looking than Olliver.
I think I'm now suddenly realizing Merlyn didn't send Olliver to kill Ras. He sent Olliver to die, which is quite brilliant. Everytime they've fought, Olliver barely escapes with his life against Merlyn. And Merlyn fears Ras. No way Merlyn ever believed Olliver was going to win.
-
Yeah, Merlyn definitely played Ollie.
Ra's claimed the last time he was challenged was almost 60 years ago? If it's not a pit, there's something keeping him young and vital..
Only real question I have, is who saves Ollie? A new character? Talia, maybe? (Since Ra's other daughter should want him dead..)
-
I knew that was Merlyn's plan all along. He is a villain which means at his core he is a coward. Kill two birds with one stone. One literally (Ollie) and the other figuratively (get League/Ra's off his back). Actually his machinations leading to that point killed FOUR birds inasmuch as it now has Thea beholden to him (that is going to blow up in his face) and eliminated another vigilante (Canary) that would stand up to him.
I'm not saying Ra's shouldn't have bested Ollie. I'm not saying Ollie doesn't need to be reminded he is only human. What I am saying is it shouldn't have been so one sided. I do like the fact it did make Ra's a coward in the sense he makes his foes physically weakened by the climb. It is also very good character development for Ra's inasmuch as we see he feels justified in being a coward in such a manner due to his airs and graces. That has always been Ra's weakness. He found that out when he attempted to play fair with the Joker. Yeah, that don't work.
Don't get me started on their version of Wildcat. VERY disappointed. His costume was beyond lame, and in the comics is one of the coolest of all heroes, plus Ted Grant is a total BMF! Period. They made him a total henchman level fodder/pussy, and I am NOT down with that. Well you can't get everything right all the time. Hopefully he returns and the producers rectify their mistake and make him the bad ass he should be.
-
Ras makes that climb as well, probably often, I don't think it had anything to do with why Olliver lost. There's a reason even Merlyn fears Ras.
For whatever it's worth, this story was borrowed directly from Batman's first battle with Ras and he "killed" Batman the same way. Then this happened.
-
I see what you're saying, and agree to an extent if there's a Dark Knight Rises style comeback.
But I don't believe there will be. Ras isn't someone Ollie can take straight up. That was the point of the squash, to show the insurmountable skill gap, forcing Ollie to think outside the box on this one.
-
I know exactly where they got the storyline from. I'm a huge Bats WHEN does Ra's make that climb is the question? Think about that.
-
I think the show implies that climb was no big deal for someone with Olliver's mysterious 5 year past and those salmon ladders. Olliver showed no signs of fatigue. Ras was meant to be the biggest threat in the show's history and toyed with him for most of the fight til Olliver finally got a strike on him.
-
Yea the story borrows from Bats but a lot of this show has. I don't feel that's ever detracted from the show though. Merlyn planned it this way of course. However, I don't think Thea was actually mind controlled for the simple fact of what the hell was she doing in that random graveyard that her family and friends have no connection to other than the Lance family. If she knew Sara was alive why go there and end up running into Laurel? I think she was there to visit Sara's grave herself
-
She was there to legit visit her mother's grave. The coincidence of meeting Laurel there so she can spill her secret about Sarah was the show's own contrived writing.
-
Isn't her Mom buried up on the estate though?
-
Has the show even discussed where the Queens are buried? I vaguely remember seeing graves but did it show where were those graves?
-
It clearly showed in Season 1 that Ollie and his Dad's graves were up on the estate. Pretty sure the Mom was buried up there too. Can always go rewatch the Season 2 episode to find out of course.
-
Maybe the show itself doesn't remember that detail and got it wrong.
I think Thea's revelation she killed Sarah will come in flashback dreams like Roy's false memories of killing Sarah.
-
That is very plausible. That or Thea is lying directly to Laurel's face. I mean, she's been doing it to Ollie and Roy since coming back into town and they didn't expect anything till an episode or two ago.
Also, the reaction to last night's episode on Stephen Amell's Facebook has been amazing. After the episode aired he posted this text conversation he was having:
https://www.facebook.com/stephenamell/photos/a.510703882348217.1073741826.146921975393078/767322890019647/?type=1&theater
Then a few hours later came this post with a selfie of himself:
"Facebook. Thank you so much for the enthusiasm spilling out of tonight's fall finale. I've never had anywhere near this amount of feedback. And by feedback, I mostly mean swear words. There were an awful lot of expletives.
Seriously though: Despite the title, our show is bigger than any one character. We're going to prove that to you.
Sit tight... January will be here in no time.
xo
(And look Mom... I'm totally fine.)"
-
Maybe the show itself doesn't remember that detail and got it wrong.
So is WWE's creative team writing this show now?
-
More like George Lucas.
Couldn't even remember if he wrote 1,000 generations or 1,000 years, or if Gungas is pronounced with an "ooh" or "uh".

Well isn't the idea to die, then use the pit? :diablo_mini: :laugh_mini:
-
I read an interesting take on Malcolm Merlyn on this show. He's the Christopher Nolan version of Bruce Wayne, had he stayed and followed his training all the way through with Ras Al Ghul and turned to the dark side. Bruce drew the line and decided to flee and Malcolm embraced it and of course eventually broke away, but as a villain.
-
In other news, both Flash and Arrow renewed for another season, no surprise.
And Arrow/Flash crossovers will be an annual event every season.
Also Arrow/Flash executive producer is launching a Vixen animated series in their digital web only channel CW Seed. This takes place in the same universe as Flash and Arrow. I wonder if they can do a CW Batman in animated form?

-
Is this bald guy an original villain or is he in the comics?
From the comics. He's a metahuman there, but just a regular tough guy on Arrow.
After last week's setup episode, I enjoyed this one. I guess this is a three part arc for Olliver's return and Laurel becoming the Canary. Next week Olliver returns I assume.
Watching Laurel stumble, fall, and run away as the Canary was fun and appropriate. They're not rushing her at all, instead it's the character whose rushing it. I'm guessing she'll eventually be trained by Olliver since the actor who played Wildcat left the show.
One major problem I have is how long it's been since Sarah died and Laurel still won't tell her dad. It's not convoluted as much as it is just immature on Laurel's part.
So far the flashbacks this season have been a dud compared to the Island stuff the first two seasons, which a lot of times were better than the present day events, which were also great. I was expecting a lot more pre-Suicide stuff training and activities with Waller and Olliver. Instead it's a lot of forgettable drama and events with China White.
And this all seems familiar to Dark Knight Rises, which borrowed from Batman: No Man's Land. Olliver/Batman is gone and Starling/Gotham is abandoned by the cops while Brick/Bane runs around. Although they really rushed Olliver's healing process, unless they reveal something more next week. Doesn't look like the Lazarus Pitt exists.
Wish they'd put a rush on Ray Palmer's suit. I guess tonight was a start with Felicity finally joining his cause and he's set to appear on Flash later in the season.
I liked the seeds planted with Merlyn and Thea. I've been wanting a Merlyn/Arrow team up since last season and it's all headed that direction.
-
he kind of shrugged off an arrow wound, he may yet be meta
-
I was actually starting to come around to Laurel as a character until that episode last night. I understand you are afraid to tell your Dad Sarah is dead because of his health. I get it. It's kinda sweet in it's twisted immature way. However, what the fuck good do you think it's going to do to keep pretending to be her to your Dad?! You know he's going to find out.
I think Brick is perfect for what they are doing. He is just badass enough to be to much for Team Arrow to handle without Ollie but not badass enough to at least not be able to hurt his plans in some fashion.
Merlyn. Oh Merlyn. You are the reason my girlfriend started watching this show (she become a Barrowman fan thanks to Doctor Who). Please don't go anywhere. Stay in the show. You are awesome and amazing. I can't wait for the end of the season when The League of Assassins comes to Starling City to purge it and him, Ollie, Thea, Arsenal, Canary, and Arrow all team up to take them down. If that isn't the direction they are heading they should be.
The Lazarus Pit is not in the show. That was confirmed before they came back from the mid-season break in their social media presence. Mystical life giving insanity pool is still a little to far fetched for this show still. Plus then they'd be stuck with either having an insane Ollie for a few episodes or they ignore the insanity causing and have the fans pissed.
-
Damn that was good.
It started off as whatever, but escalated quickly into the final act of Dark Knight Rises. Yeah they're just blatantly taking from Batman now, but Nolan took that from No Man's Land to be fair. If you're going to steal, steal from good material. More on that later.
Roy and Laurel teaming up was actually fun this week now that she's getting over the learning curve. Last week she made me miss Sarah. This week I was okay with her as a team member.
Did they kill off Ted Grant? Might as well have after that embarrassing performance against Brick.
Looks like Detective Lance will finally start to figure out about his daughters.
Team Arrow and the city vs Brick and his army was pretty much from Dark Knight Rises, except Merlyn was Batman.
I LOVED Merlyn this episode and was super happy the flashbacks were just of his origin and not the lame Hong Kong stuff. Merlyn is Bruce Wayne from Batman Begins, except he stayed with Ras and became a killer. I should play closer attention, but I'm wondering if that flower he gave mini Nyssa was the same one Bruce gave Ras? Probably not, but fun to think about. Also liked mini Olliver and mini Tommy.
Yeah Olliver surviving that stabbing and falling off a cliff because of penicillin tea was lame as hell, but that comeback was still awesome. I'm also finally getting what I've wanted since season 2 with Olliver and Merlyn finally teaming up.
Anyone catch the Nightwing reference with his friend in Bludhaven? Probably the closest Nightwing will ever get to this show.
I'm guessing the season is building up to Olliver vs Ras rematch in the finale and possibly calling Olliver Green Arrow by the end when he's new and improved with "Black" Canary at his side.
This episode has won me back over. First half of the episode I was wondering if the show had peaked last season, but nope still got plenty of juice left now that Arrow is back on the show.
Felicity at the end might be my only real complaint, which I'm guessing will finally lead to her siding more with Ray Palmer til she comes around in an episode or two.
Either way, looking forward to next week.
-
Loved the episode in general.
Could have done without the "There's a place in hell for him... If I believed in hell! *Not religious*"
Pretty much playing into the stereotype that a scientist can't be even a bit religious, which is only something the internet believes.
-
Extremely solid episode. I think they did kill off Ted because didn't the actor leave the show? Either way Ted Grant is one of the BEST hand to hand combatants in the DCU. No way does Brick take him down.
Shit is about to hit the fan between Lance and Laurel. I'm actually very apprehensive about that do to Captain Lance's health issues.
I found it extremely interesting how in just one episode they made me go from hating Laurel and loving Felicity to loving Laurel and hating Felicity. That's damn good writing. Take notes Vince...
-
Damn that was...okay.
This episode accomplished two things storyline wise, but felt very disjointed action and plot wise. There might actually be too many storyline going on right now.
Thea finally knows about everything and she took it extremely well, considering how she'd get on her high horse and ride off last season whenever she'd learn a secret.
And Laurel comes clean to Lance about being the new Canary and Sarah being dead. Finally and Lance didn't die from a heart attack. That's good. Loved that Lance showed up in the Vertigo hallucinations.
Actually really liked how they handled Thea's character in this. She figuring out Chase the League of Assassins DJ was trying to poison her was really good and her fighting skills not being that great as she thought they were was also well done. She's pretty much at the same level as Laurel right now.
I'm really hoping for some training montages between Merlyn and Olliver. I'm guessing those are still coming, but right now it looks like Merlyn sets he and Thea on the island and possibly sets Slade on them.
Having Caity Lotz back on the show was great as well as the "Canaries" sequences. I'm hoping they do an origin episode for Sarah. That's something I've wanted since season 2. Nyssa finds her, and I want to see her initiation into the league.
Overall nice handling of Laurel as Canary so far. They aren't forcing it and I hope they're transitioning into Olliver training her and Thea.
Now I think they're doing too many storylines at once because Amanda Waller is a huge villain in the flashbacks right now with threatening to kill Thea and trying to connect Maseo from the flashbacks to the present with Ras Al Ghul. All this is easily forgettable because it's all the past. Plus there was no room for Ray Palmer's arc.
I think this will feel and look completely different to someone who binge watches this season once it's over and sees how it's all been building and leading up to something meaningful in one watch. Episodes like this will seem pretty fun because you'll get to move on to next week's episode right after.
According to the show runner, starting next week every episode will be pretty crazy til the end of the season and Olliver's death will be the least shocking thing, so I'll trust the show, but right now Flash's season one is killing it right now and might be on another level as a superhero show.
-
I'm just glad they aren't dragging out this Laurel lying to Lance anymore or Thea not knowing. Of everything that happened in this episode I felt tieing up those two plot points saves the episode.
When Ollie was telling them he was leaving again did anyone else expect Felicity to go, "Oh it's OK. Ray Palmer is stepping up to do your job for you."
Can't wait for the return of Deathstroke next week.
-
I'm just starting last night's - random thought: Any chance Thea puts on a mask and becomes Speedy?
-
Possible. I'm leaning towards Artemis from Young Justice who also had a connection to Green Arrow, plus a villain father.
-
Sounds good, as long as they don't turn her into a heroin addict. :biggrin_mini2:
-
They actually did the whole Speedy being a drug addict thing in season one when Olliver comes back home and Thea does drugs regularly. Then did it again with Roy with the Mirakuru.
-
Visiting the Gotham thread just now, it hit me both shows had a similar villain this week. Gotham had papa Scarecrow and the fear toxin and Arrow had Count Vertigo and his version of the fear toxin.
-
What kind of inescapable prison gets popped open with the push of a button?! :fr:
Instead of a key, like the escapable types. :biggrin_mini2:
-
Anyways, it was neat seeing Slade again, but I kind of thought he was a little out of character. Basically let himself be used by Merlin, when the smart money would have been escaping the island, and THEN going after Queen, on his terms.
Thea took her time whipping out the gun. (Slade didn't search them?)
-
Wow, this was a throwback and love letter to fans of season one.
Pretty straight forward episode as far as events in present day. Slade was fantastic and his fight scenes against Olliver and Thea were great. Those island scenes and moment were overall really well done.
Manu Bennet is so great, I hope they move him to Task Force X, screw it let's just call it what it is. It's a Suicide Squad.
Plus they got the Thea knowing she killed Sarah secret out of the way, only to create a new secret of never telling Laurel.
During the Starling City flashbacks, I kept doing double takes because they made certain people look three years younger and even brought old actors I forgot about back like Lance's old partner. Great seeing Tommy back and weird seeing cynical dickish Lance.
Olliver killing that drug dealer like nothing was pretty damn cool. It's funny he pretty much dressed like Roy, but with a green hoodie.
Now we know how Arrow gets his line about failing this city comes from. I'm guessing Thea's message from her dad will pull her closer back to humanity and less of the killer she thinks Malcolm turned her into.
Next week looks great with Ras coming back and Atom suiting up.
Also we keep discussing who Thea will become if she suits up. I've been saying it's Artemis, but someone pointed out to me that there's a female Speedy in the comics, Mia Dearden, who also appeared on Smallville. Thea's full name on the show is Thea Dearden Queen, so they might have been planning this already. When she was in Corto Maltese with Merlyn, she was under the name of Mia. So I think we have our answer.
-
Well this delivered on things I did not expect.
First off, I love Merlyn and I got exactly what I was hoping for ever since Olliver decided to train with him, training montages with he and Olliver, except we got a bonus with training with Thea at the same time. Loved it.
Also loved Laurel going after him and accomplishing nothing since they're so far apart in skill. Then Nyssa and the League show up and you see how helpless he feels just around their presence. Just incredibly well done and consistent with everything we've been told about Merlyn and the League's skills.
Then the conversation between Merlyn and Ras I really liked, just because it revealed Merlyn used to be one of the Horsemen for him. Pretty cool.
Really surprised they didn't stretch out Thea not telling Laurel about killing Sarah for a few weeks or next season, like every other show would have. She just told her and surprisingly Laurel was 100% rational about it.
The Atom costume stuff was cool, but that Iron Man type suit just felt so out of place in this universe. It belongs on the Flash with Firestorm. Looking forward to seeing how it's used in action on the streets or against a super villain. I guess we'll actually get that when he does go on the Flash soon.
And lastly, I know they're just taking from Batman, but I didn't think they'd have Ras declare Olliver the heir to the Demon like he would have with Batman. Big twist and I don't know where it's now going, which is great.
Enjoyed the episode, I think the Hong Kong flashbacks are still weak and isn't adding anything to rest of the current narrative, yet.
-
Also they subtly confirmed the existence of the Lazarus Pitt last night when Ras told Merlyn about meeting an illusionist in 1854.
-
Does no one else think that bath Ra's was in WAS a Lazarus Pit? I can see for the non-fanboys them explaining that as a routinely occuring (daily or weekly perhaps?) dip to maintain youth as opposed to a rare thing like in the comics.
-
Could be. Seemed kind of small and they haven't introduced it on the show yet. They seem to reveal it in the previews where Ras cuts his own hand and dips it into a pool.

Great episode. Only thing I can add that hasn't already been brought up is apparently there is a Firestorm, Atom, Captain Cold, and Caity Lotz (Sara Lance so not how that works) in the works.
-
That spin off show also says it'll have Martin Stein and not Ronnie Raymond. Probably missing a lot of final details yet to be announced.
-
The actress that plays Thea posted a pic of herself getting fitted for a mask much like Katie Cassidy earlier in the season.
I think we'll see Speedy in costume by the finale.

Cool. That fan design isn't bad looking either
-
Trailer for the rest of the season. Watch at your own risk, some spoiler territory.

Diamond tipped bullets? I know this is based on comics, but who uses diamonds in bullets? That's a terrible idea! And even if it wasn't, tungstens cheaper.
-
That's all you have to say about that episode? Yea it's a nuts concept but as you said. It's based on a comic lol
To much Oliver/Felicity love stuff for me in this one. Otherwise pretty solid. Nothing outstanding but solid.
-
This was good, nothing great like the Flash, but lots of things I liked.
I love the guy playing Ras and how he operates. I'm glad they acknowledged the powers of the Lazarus Pitt finally. I have a theory that one of the members of Team Arrow will die and comeback darker from the Pitt towards the end of the season.
Ras showing up as the Arrow to soil his name was pretty awesome.
I love the idea of Nyssa training Laurel. That actually makes all the sense in the world after the Wildcat thing didn't work out. Plus since she's from the League, she can give Laurel some edge like Sarah had.
I love Nyssa as a character on the show overall. She's a believable bad ass and that scene in the Arrow Cave where she just took apart Roy and Laurel. I just hope the Huntress comes back in season 4.
One thing I was happy about was that funny Felicity was back, joking with Olliver. She was quickly becoming a buzzkill with the moral voice of reason, and losing her charm to me.
I do wish Ray Palmer wasn't so intellectually inferior to Felicity. He should be coming up with all those breakthroughs himself. But we'll see him in action finally next week.
Looking forward to Atom and Lance hunting the Arrow plus return of the Suicide Squad. No idea how this season will end. Nyssa and Merlyn joining Team Arrow to fight the League? I'm thinking a specific member of Team Arrow dies, but I don't want to say in-case in comes true.
-
Pretty sure someone is dying based on a few posts Amell made a few weeks back. The most obvious choice would be Diggle. Second would be Felicity. Is it wrong I kinda hope it's Felicity? She's soured to me over the course of this season and the stupid Ollicity shit is getting annoying.
-
My prediction.
I really think Roy will die based on how happy he and Thea are in each other's comfort last night.
Roy dies and Thea steps up as Speedy to replace him in his honor.
Roy's corpse is missing and used by Ras in the Lazarus Pit and Roy comes back darker, borrowing from Batman again, as Olliver's Jason Todd storyline sometime next year.
-
Would help setup Arsenal not exactly being a "good" guy anymore.
-
Tony Starks attorney's will be in touch with Ray Palmer, no doubt.
It's been pretty obvious Ray was Iron Man ever since we saw the suit fly, but I still figured there'd be something Atom-ish about it. Maybe a shrink ray, or maybe some weird nano tech. But nope, he's just a guy in power armor who calls himself Atom, for some reason.
-
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe give it time?
No way in hell is Floyd dead though. That explosion didn't even look that bad
-
I enjoyed this one. For whatever reason, they always write Deadshot extremely well with the character development. I hope he isn't dead. If I had to guess, it was studio interference wit Will Smith playing Deadshot in the upcoming film and they didn't want two of them, just like with Harley Quinn being pulled and replaced by Cupid. But no body = no death in comics so they can always bring him back.
However, with Deadshot gone, they desperately need to rebuild it with new members, not really a squad with one member or two with Layla.
Atom was kind of lame. Hopefully he develops better the next couple of episodes when he meets with team Flash, since he's being moved to the spin off team up show.
One moment I loved was Laurel standing up to Ray and for Arrow. Can't wait to see how her fighting develops now that she's been training with Nyssa.
Nice Superman reference with the x-ray vision.

-
Am I supposed to be seeing Palmer as a bad guy?
-
Nope. Unless you're an Ollicity Shipper.
He and Olliver hashed things out the last episode and he is one of the good guys.
-
I'm watching now, I wrote that after the scene in Palmer's office. Still a couple of minutes left. Maybe their is hope for him, although I still don't see how they turned the Atom into Iron Man
I hate shippers and everything they stand for, especially those moronic juvenile portmanteau names
-
It's the exo-suit. Iron Man is known for that the most. I think once he goes off on the spin off show, he'll get his shrinking powers.
-
I think I see where this is going
-
We got shrink tech. :)
And poor Ray. Poor Felicity, too. Telling her to make a choice is pretty useless advice, when Ollie's the one that's adamantly against a relationship.
-
That's exactly what I thought, this is where the shrinking comes in
-
This one took me by surprise as a game changer episode.
I knew Lance would figure out Olliver is the Arrow, but I didn't expect him to out him to the rest of the world.
It kind of reminds me of the Batman animated series episode where Jim Gordon finds out Bruce is Batman after Batgirl is dead and hunts him down in that awesome dream sequence, except this was real. Lance was extremely dickish to Olliver though, curious if he ever comes back around.
I was waiting for Olliver to accept Ras's offer the entire time, did not think he'd turn himself in. Then Roy taking the fall took me by surprise again. Well done. But I still think he'll accept Ras's offer and maybe pass it on to Nyssa.
Speaking of Nyssa, loved her in her mini bad ass moments helping out Laurel and Team Arrow.
Speaking of Team Arrow, I love that they go out in missions as a team. I know the Flash has surpassed this show, but Flash goes out alone while Arrow has Canary and Roy with him as partners and sidekicks to share the awesome fight scenes with.
The Ray Palmer stuff was also intriguing. With the nano tech they introduced last night, I think we have our answer if he'll ever shrink or not. I didn't think Felicity would inject him though. I figured they'd go to Star Labs to have them do it, but I guess now he'll go for more interesting reasons.
The flashbacks were actually good this episode with Shado's twin, which is cheesy, but done nicely.
With Olliver no longer having a secret identity, this greatly impacts the show and actually separates him from Batman. Other than possibly becoming Ras Al Ghul, no idea how they'll go forward with this and that's a good thing.
-
I'm glad he's finally been outed. No more dancing around all the is or isn't he. Especially since in the comics it's kind of just known. Sets up for his run as Mayor as well :biggrin_mini2:
-
Trailer for rest of the season gives me chills. Stephen Amell says he's actually looking forward to showing us the season 4 trailer the most during Comic Con. Guess they have big plans.

Thing I'm not seeing about Ras obsession, is what stops Ollie from just taking over, and either disbanding the league, or ordering everyone in one spot and tipping off the police?
-
Thing I'm not seeing about Ras obsession, is what stops Ollie from just taking over, and either disbanding the league, or ordering everyone in one spot and tipping off the police?
What's stopping Batman from doing that?
-
This was dark, even for Arrow.
There's been rumors that they kill off someone this season and I originally predicted Roy, til I realized they haven't developed him enough. But I thought they'd go through with it here and it was a nice twist of them faking his death, even behind Olliver'sback.
Obviously Thea isn't dead either and they're setting her up as a darker Thea with the Lazarus Pit and Olliver probably accepting Ras's offer finally.
So that still leaves someone dying, possibly, and I think that just leaves Felicity to die with both Arrow and Atom loving her.
Lance is just being a dick now.
One major thing they did was introduce meta humans on this show, which was originally mandated as more down to earth vs. Flash super powered show and now that's changed. And they nicely built on that with Cisco pointing out this meta human exists outside of the particle accelerator accident. I think they're just setting up the spin off show here specifically.
And going back to Flash, Ray just fits in better on Team Flash with he and Cisco being the Nerd Bros. It was kind of odd seeing him use his suit on Arrow.
Those flashbacks still aren't cutting it for me and I'm thinking it might possibly have to do with the movie studios since it was meant to be all about Amanda Waller and the Suicide Squad. With the actual movie having Amanda Waller, it just feels like they're fading out she and her group completely and there's news now that Mannu Bennet will no longer appear as Slade. Booooo.
Good episode. Look forward how they ever bring back the Arrow, with Roy dying as the Arrow in prison, protecting Olliver in the public eye.
-
So, Atom vs Ra's. Lets say Arrow was setting off for another duel at the top of the mountain, and Ray takes off ahead of him.
Or what if Ollie was remote controlling him? :)
Random thought: How great would it be if Slade manages to escape the island? Ra's and Wilson at odds over Olies fate. The city caught in the middle of a big gang war.. Could force Ollie into Ra's offer, if only to ger one side under control, and stop the other.
-
Well that happened. I think this episode would have been a bigger deal had CW not released every major scene in their spoiler filled previews the last few weeks and I not willingly watched them...
That being said, I'm now interested on how they handle Olliver as Ras Al Ghul from this point on.
Batman never accepted the offer, so the show is at least exploring something different and unexpected from all the Batman influences.
Does Ras just hang around til he dies of old age micro-managing the League?
Is Thea back to normal just like that? I thought her soul was gone forever. Guess it's a wait and see like everything else for the after effects.
Looks like Ray and Felicity are over as he gets ready for the spin off. I'd prefer he get shipped over to Flash and Star Labs til the spin off.
I liked all the humnanity Malcolm showed when he tried convinving Olliver to not bring Thea back.
Pretty depressing episode actually, but shakes things up at least.
-
No comments on last week? Thea put an arrow through Ollie's arm. Ra's wants to destroy SC. Will we get resolution this season?
-
I felt it was about par for the course. Ra's wanting to destroy SC makes sense. Pretty typical of most Ra's/Batman stories. Thea put an arrow through Ollie. He was also about to kill Diggle so not that shocking. From what I understand this is being resolved this season and ending with a set up for next seasons main villain who I believe was mentioned in the episode of Damien Dahrk
-
Was the preview for next week's Flash a spoiler for tonight's Arrow?
-
It was, but you knew Ollie wouldn't stay in that mind controlled trance for long.
Last week's episode was decent, watching Ollie as the villain and bad ass. Gave us lots of Nyssa/Katrina Law who I love.
Great twist with the arranged marriage.
They addressed fan requests of Diggle needing a costume.
Laurel revealed the Canary Cry, but nobody said anything on the show about it.
Good episode, but just not on the level of Flash or Daredevil this season.
-
Her using the Canary Cry after having received it from two weeks prior was the highlight of that episode imo
-
I felt like this could have been a stronger episode had they not completely removed all the tension with Olliver faking it, thus everyone really being safe at the end.
Also Katana suits up in her comic book costume, but it was out of nowhere, plus they've done a poor job of developing her character. We don't know much about her. She and Maseo had very little chemistry on screen.
Did Ray Palmer hand over his company to Felicity like Tony does with Pepper Potts so he can spend more time as Atom/Iron Man?
Loved Nyssa trying to kill Olliver at the wedding. This is a great female character and all her actions are consistent.
Surprised next week is the finale. It's been the weakest season for me, although first two seasons were amazing, but if they end strong going into season 4, I'm good.
-
Her using the Canary Cry after having received it from two weeks prior was the highlight of that episode imo
I kind of liked the "Oh, that's my insulin" moment. That big grin and arrogant cigar smoke was heel booking 101 perfection. :)
-
My comment was about the previous week's episode Doc lol. That scene for this week you are talking about though was perfect.
I think the problem with this season is they blew their load in the first half, especially with that mid season finale. It's not like the episodes are bad, they just aren't anything amazing either. Just a lot of consistent good episodes
-
I think the forgettable flashbacks in Hong Kong really took up too much time. The Island flashbacks the last two seasons were incredible, a lot of times more interesting than the present time stuff, which was also great. Plus those flashbacks were directly connected to the present time in some way, revealing something major or developing Olliver more and more.
I don't know how much the Suicide Squad movie affected the show. I was expecting Amanda Waller a lot in those flashbacks, training Olliver to be a better killer, sort of like a pre-Suicide Squad. Instead it's been a stream of okay events with Maseo and his family.
Ras impaling Olliver was epic, but they kind of dropped the ball with that when they cameback. Seemed like at that point of the show they didn't want to commit to the Lazarus Pit, then later they went full Lazarus Pit and meta humans on the show.
Lance and the public turning on the Arrow a couple of weeks back was also epic and a game changer, but it's been drowned out by the League stuff.
Expected a lot more from Ray Palmer/Atom, but they're just making him Iron Man, which is horrible timing with the real Iron Man on the big screen right now doing it better.
Actually forgot the Brick mini arc as a villain. That ended being really cool with Olliver coming back to Starling in the Dark Knight Rises plot and Merlyn's origin flashback.
Figured they'd do "something" with the Lazarus Pit and Thea's aftermath, but she seems fine and has been handed Roy's costume to take the next step.
I think Katie Cassidy as Laurel has been the most consistent. She gets better and better through out the season as the new Black Canary.
-
Teaser of Thea in costume

-
What the hell, Oliver!
Lot of questionable choices there. Especially the part with Malcolm..
All the people that want him dead, and no one even tries.
-
Fun finale.
Olliver and Nyssa teaming up was fantastic, all the way to her protecting him against Diggle in the Arrow Cave, and finishing off with "I wanted to be the one to kill my father" with a smile at him. I like that they left their marriage status up in the air.
Fun Flash cameo, "Whoa they have a hot tub?" looking at the Lazarus Pit. I'm glad they somehow answered why Flash can't always just solve all of Olliver's problems. He has big ones of his own.
Great moment with Olliver saying the same prayer to Ras as Ras said to him when he was "killed".
Really fun Pepper Potts moment with Felicity in the Atom Suit. I'm happy this never got leaked.
Wish we got more moments with Thea as Speedy and I felt Black Canary didn't get any memorable moments.
Even with Olliver retired for now as the Arrow, I do look forward to the new team dynamic next season Speedy and Black Canary as regulars. They spent all season establishing Laurel and Speedy will be completely new almost as this type of character.
Malcolm becoming Ras Al Ghul was a nice twist and fitting for the Merlyn character. He had nothing left to do other than die, so this makes much more sense if they want to keep using him in a relevant way.
I also think all this League stuff towards the last act of the season was a direct result of not being able to use Suicide Squad anymore. So you have another group of bad guys to work with on and off, much like Flash and the Rogues.
-
So you think Ra's is getting revived? Or that Ollie didn't kill him.
I suppose the city could take care of him, as I can't see anyone else saving his life.
-
I think Olliver killed him the same way Ras killed Olliver. It's a comic book universe, so if he ever comes back, there's plenty of ways to explain it. But I don't see them bringing him back since he's a major Batman character and now they no longer need him with Malcolm filling the role when they do League stories next season. It's the same way they never needed to bring in Talia because Nyssa fills that role without ever using Talia's name and getting the attention of WB executives.
-
I agree, while no death's forever in comics, if they don't really need him anymore.......?
Anyways, the more you think over Barry's excuse for not being able to stick around, the less fair it sounds, because Barry's guys already down and out.
Barry, the guy with super powers, needed the guy without any powers at all to help beat on his guy, and then can't be bothered to stick around and help him with his.
Not complaining, I just think it's pretty funny. A very Batman and Superman setup, you might say.
-
Well going back to the Flash, they didn't even ask Ronnie.

-
I'd like Ollie actually told him and everyone in the room, in no uncertain terms, on threat of bodily harm, not to even go near Ra's. Just like Bruce refuses any real help. :)
-
First of all, Merlyn does all of this with a bitchy imperiousness that is unmatched. You think I’m snarky and nasty. That’s nothing compared to Merlyn inoculating the Arrow team, letting them think they were all dying, and when they awake saying, “The words you’re looking for are ‘Thank’ and ‘you.’” Or when they all get back to Starling City, he starts giving orders, and they don’t respond, he says, “I’m sorry, did I mumble?” It’s like the writers of this show saw my mean-spirited recaps and were like, “You think that’s uncalled for? We’ll give you uncalled-for.” And they did. I am like Salieri listening to Mozart right now. I am simply outclassed.
More importantly, Malcolm Merlyn killed Ollie’s father, terrorized his mother (although not before giving her a really good time. I’m just saying. You can’t argue with that face and clearly he has a work ethic), forced his sister to kill someone, orchestrated a terror attack against a city, forced him into a duel to the death, and not only did Malcolm get away with everything but now he’s the head of an ancient order of assassins and he’s immortal.
Is anyone else getting the feeling that the title of Arrow doesn’t refer to Ollie at all? I think we’ve been watching the wrong guy for three years.
Can't really argue with that logic. Malcom's the luckiest man in Arrow, all things considered.
-
Zandrax has a tourney going on, so lets put this here:
Ra's Al Ghul vs Slade Wilson.
With the mirakuru, and without it.
Looking online, a lot of people thought Malcolm could beat Slade.. I missed his reign as a villain, but I guess he must have been hyped up pretty good.
-
Without Mirikuru Malcom takes Slade easily. With Mirikuru Slade takes Malcom no questions asked. Malcom really does just get by on luck through most of this season and is pretty much non-existant in the second season.
As far as finale's go it was good. I'm very curious about what is happening with Ollie as Amell was quoted that he won't be doning the Arrow suit anymore. Just a character re-branding or what? There's still two years worth of island time that we're supposed to get I thought. Speaking of which here's a question for you:
Season 1 opens with Ollie lighting the Bonfire to get rescued from the island for at the time very obvious reasons. Come season 3 though we find out he's on the island at that point because he has chosen to be and does not feel he belongs in society. So then why the fuck did he light that Bonfire in season 1? If he really is done with the show, which I doubt, and we don't get anymore flashbacks that is a HUGE character plothole. Something must happen on that island in the next two years to change his mind.
Ray isn't dead, we know that. How badly injured he is remains to be seen.
Obviously the deal struck between Ollie and Merlyn is to bring Sarah back to life, and likely to leave Starling City alone.
Thea looks good in costume and can't wait to see her and Black Canary start wrecking baddies.
Wonder what Diggle's costume is going to look like as it is confirmed he's getting one for Season 4.
-
I think he means he's done as Arrow and will comeback as Green Arrow. New costume, no secret identity, no mask. I assume anyway.
Ray is pretty much dead. No one survives an explosion like that.
-

I'm thinking as much too.
He's not dead. He's in Legends of Tomorrow. Doubt they'll kill him and LP him since they're doing that to Sara. Really curious what kind of scapegoat excuse they have for him surviving that lol
-
They explain it at the end of the trailer. He shrunk and escaped.
-
The Arrow is gone. Green Arrow is coming in season 4.

Constantine confirmed for Season 4

They might be doing a Daredevil/Punisher-esque season. Vigilante is said to be the main antagonist. He'll be the district attorney to Mayor Oliver and then tragedy makes him Vigilante.
Also getting a Casey Jones-esque vigilante in Wild Dog. I would still love to see Sportsmaster on this show. If they can't use Deathstroke ever again, he'd be pretty close if they portray him like they did in Young Justice. Plus you can do a storyline with his kids as well.

Artemis coming this season. Hopefully Sportsmaster in the works
-
Last season I would have called Flash my favorite of the DC shows, but I was disappointed in the premier. Arrow's premier on the other hand, delivered
-
Vigilante always came across to me as a "DC Punisher". I know the character goes back to the 40s, but that was an old west incarnation.
I did catch this on the premiere

So, Ollie has this big character growth moment where hes lets his guard down and trusts someone with his secret id, and IMMEDIATELY after someone's tortured and gives it up.
Which basically undermines the trust lessons and makes Ollie look right all along in being a paranoid jerk.
I HATE IT when they pull those catch 22 scenario's.
-
Prometheus?
Oh crap. He's might be the....
....lamest villain ever. :)
Seriously, he's some guy who uploads martial arts moves via a dvd player in this really clunky looking helmet. By even pre crisis standards, he'd be cheesy.
I just hope Ollie pulls a Batman and slips him a disc of Stephen Hawkings moves.
-
This season has been really good so far. Scaling back the scope of the show to season 1 street level has been just right.
This is a reimagined Prometheus and feels like Zoom to Ollie's Flash.

Yeah, I'm liking this Prometheus.
Btw, Ra's.. is it pronounced "ras" or "raish"?
Arrow did the former, didn't it? While Young Justice said raish.
-
Damn this show is good again. Most improved show along with Supergirl.
Loving the intrigue with Vigilante and Prometheus in the shadows.
They've made Prometheus Zoom to Ollie's Green Arrow.
Vigilante is done very well. They went with his classic comic look and we get our DC Punisher.
Good twist with Artemis at the end, wondering if she has a sports master relationship with Prometheus.
-
Crossover episode was great. It was also the 100th Episode. They managed to be all out sci-fi while staing true to the history of the show and the character.
Also refreshing to see an entire episode without a flashback.
-
Who was the guy with the paler Deathstroke mask?
And yeah, I liked this episode. A lot of people are complaining about it, but this was essentially "Arrow does For the Man Who Has Everything", and frankly they did it better than Supergirl did. (Diggle as Arrow was the best part, says a lot about him.)
Supergirl and Wally goofing around while Wilddog went "hrumph" was fun, too.
-
I didn't even notice the lack of flashback
-
I didn't even notice the lack of flashback
If the show gets a sixth season (which I think it will) the producers have already stated that the flashbacks will be done with. It was planned out as a five year story.
-
I'm good with that
-
Paler Deathstroke was just a Mirakuro soldier from Deathstroke's army.
-
That mid season finale was one of the best written episodes in forever. Loved the tone, score, action.
That ending was incredible and I still have no idea what's going on.
This show is back.
-
I liked it, too.
Everything except the Michael Holt subplot. But what's with the CW and neurotic significant others? Sure, the reveal causing shock/tension is natural, but who says "Do what I say or else" like that? That's not "I love you too much to see you hurt", that's "I'm a control freak, and I'm doing you a favor by leaving".
-
Yup, gripped from beginning to end. Great finale.
-
Yup, gripped from beginning to end. Great finale.
The drug guy was totally Trump, wasn't he. :)
"We're gonna make this town great again! And this is how you do it, WITH MONEY!"
-
I can't explain why, but my hunch is Laurel faked her death. When she showed up at the end she greeted him like it was just another day.
-
or another flashpoint change?
-
or another flashpoint change?
Not my idea, so I can't claim it. But it could be Earth 2 Laurel, who we know is a villain.
-
Laurel & Oliver
Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy
How did I not see this before?
-
was there a new episode last night? My on demand is showing episode 15 on last week and episode 16 nest week
-
According to CW's site the most recent episode was on March 1st.
-
Thanks
-
So, uh..
I'll just spoil this part: Ollie skinned a man alive. At first to get information, but he said "He broke early. The rest was practice."
I know the point of Chase's vendetta is Ollie has his skeletons and makes excuses for them, but god damn. Skinned... alive.
-
Haven't we been down this road before?
-
I kind of agree with Anatoli.
Ollie went to him.. You don't travel to another country just to hear "Deals off."
Sure, he's a gangster and obviously corrupted (Using innocents as human shields, stealing needed medicine for street drugs. As if meth wasn't easy to make and didn't need diabete's meds..), but just saying, he was essentially in the right on this.
-
Best of all the CW shows right now. Leaves me wanting more when it ends.
-
Well, I learned something today.
Fantasy Island. Why am I only learning about this now?
Sounds kind of like it may have inspired Twisted Metal, what with the host of the island making dreams come true, but with a monkey paw like twist that turns them into nightmares..
-
My hunch for next season:
Deathstroke got everybody into the prison to escape all the explosions
-
that works
-
Most sjw channels think Diggle won't stick.
I think, given Lady Thor and such, this will be at least a few seasons worth of status quo. If no one accepts it, it proves their pr machine needs work.
-
nah, I didn't watch yet but this is a few episode arc at best
right?
-
After last night, I'm unsure now.
They built a special crossbow that shoots full sized arrows, which implies more then a few shows worth of investment.
They also showed Diggle in a back alley buying some type of drug that resembles Ninja Turtle mutagen, presumably to deal with the tremor problem.
So the groundwork is there for Ollie to relieve Diggle, it just depends on how long they want to play this out..
-
I think Ollie will be back sooner rather than later. Probably by the crossover.
-
I'm not loving much of the DC universe right now
-
They were both wrong as can be.
Diggle for hiding his drug habbit and disability, then wondering why he's taken off point.
Ollie for choosing the mask over his kid, breaking his promises.
And both were pretty passive aggressive.
-
yeah, but Diggle was less wrong in this argument. Ollie can't lead. Keep the hood, let Spartan lead
Plus all 3 shows facing overwhelming opponents is getting dull.
-
Just finished the past season last night. First half with Cayden James as the villain was entertaining at least even if both Flash and Arrow had pretty much the exact same villain.
The change to Diaz was terrible though. Hated his character. Had no clue on what his motivation was or why anybody put up with his shit.
Laurel storyline was ok but I'm worried where she is going. Is she good or is she still evil? Also Sara just being ok with that Laurel being there and pretty much the reason her Dad is dead was mind boggling.
As for "Team Arrow". They're all idiots. This show is starting to suffer from the same issue Supernatural has. You're 6 seasons in and still having the exact same conversations about trust and leadership you were having back in season 1.
-
All 4 shows suffered the same bullshit this season. The good guys lost every week and then scraped out a victory at the last minute. So done with the arrowverse
