General Discussion / RIP NYGirl
« on: December 18, 2022, 04:44:40 PM »
I know there's not a lot of traffic here these days, but this seemed worthy of documenting here since it's where we all met her.  NYGirl (Fran) passed away earlier this week.  She was truly a special lady and will be missed by all of us who knew her, even if only virtually on a wrestling message board.

General Discussion / Re: How is everybody doing?
« on: August 12, 2020, 05:13:52 PM »
I moved to Arizona back in the spring.  Ironically, my company paid to move me to help lead a new office we just recently opened up ... which I have since never set foot into, and it looks like I may not until at least 2021.  On the plus side, moving into a new home gave me plenty of things to do indoors while being on lockdown.  However, that distraction is essentially over at this point as we are very settled in now.  Just getting used to working from home full time.  I'm with Dan that I don't particularly care for it.  I do miss the office, as odd as that sounds.  However, some of that is missing the old office environment since I don't even have experience in this new one yet.  If I eventually go in and all I do is sit on calls back to Illinois, then working from home is definitely preferred.

On the plus side, my wife and I continue to be healthy as have our families.

I've seen several of these now.

All really well done.  No idea how accurate some of it is, but at least a few episodes were entertaining purely for the hatred between Cornette and Russo.

The two title matches were identical, as was mentioned earlier.  Didn't care so much when it was Braun/Goldberg on the first night since I knew I wasn't getting Savage/Steamboat or anything, but I was hoping for better from McEntyre/Lesnar.
I think I'm over the audience issues.  It's interesting to hear more of the banter in the ring.  Some are better than others, obviously.

I read David's post first, but since then I've seen so many other A1'ers post as well.

I don't have much to add that others haven't already said.  Norko was always such a genuine guy.  He had the occasional bout of frustration that anyone would with the health obstacles that were put in front of him, but he was generally a happy guy and got joy from putting a smile on another person's face.

RIP

Agree on Shayna.  That would have been a perfect time to move her to the main roster (do we still call them that? lol).  I don't need another Charlotte title shot.

Also agree on the end of the men's match.  I thought sure a double Claymore would knock them both out.

What's the end game to continuing to make Brock look like Superman?

The episode 2 end swerve definitely caught me off guard and made me go straight into episode 3.
I see what you meant by rooting for the Count.  Interesting character for sure, and Agatha was very fun.

Season 4 still not streaming on Netflix.  Hope they give me enough time to get caught up.

I came across this last night while looking for something to watch with the fiance, but we weren't in a Dracula kinda mood.  I'll watch it soon though!

We had tickets in the box for this show (great way to watch!).  Agree with most that the show was solid.  Surprised NXT won so many.  Cole vs. Dunne was a show stealer.  Somehow AJ vs. Nakamura vs. Strong was a bit of a letdown.  Probably a product of high expectations.

Horribly booked final match.  Those three women are all better than that.  Just a slow, plodding booking that didn't allow them to do much of anything.  The pin got a nice pop, but Becky's post-match attack even fell flat.  Should have been in the middle of the show with that style.  Bayley completely treated like the after-thought she was complaining about.

Rhea Ripley is a star.  Her antics on the apron during the match were fantastic.  It's clear she's 100% invested.  Same for Keith Lee.  They need to take advantage of him while his body holds up.

I'm enjoying the series so far.  Kinda over the Baby Yoda stuff though.

Episode 4 was good.  Hope we see more of Carano's character.

I think I agree with most saying that I didn't need it, but I found it enjoyable.  It didn't really change my view of the ending of BB at all.

My girlfriend and I have started watching this.  Probably 3-4 episodes so far.  Can't exactly remember.  It's been ... OK.  It's interesting enough, but hasn't been as engrossing as some other recent shows we got into.

I finished it last night as well.  Also liked it.  Will definitely look forward to season 2.

Coincidentally, I just started Jessica Jones this week as well, and Erin Moriarty is in season 1 of that too.  She's pretty good!

Exactly where I am, Bob.  I'm blending this along with the Netflix Marvel shows that I'm behind on.  Just started Jessica Jones.

Lots of TV time when you're stuck at home with a bum leg!

A friend of mine at work just recommended this to me yesterday, so I'll give it a try.  Agree with Bobby though.  The commercials didn't inspire me at all.

I had never seen a single episode until about 4 weeks ago, and now I've seen the whole thing.  Got to say it wasn't quite what I thought it was (for some reason, I expected something akin to American Horror Story), but I enjoyed it very much!  The 80s vibe was great of course, and honestly the acting was quite good especially for children.

Did Brock officially use his MITB challenge?  If so, what was the point of that?

Bran is such a tough character to handle right now.  His visions give the writers something to use seemingly when the way to, but then they forget about it when they just want to build conflict.  Seems to me like he could just tell people how this thing ends.  Bad character all around.

Angle is old school.  You don't win your retirement match.  He went out putting someone over, which I'm sure is the way he wanted it.

Elias does get a pop, but they clearly have nothing to do with him beyond the annual Cena run-in.

WM historically has been a feel good show, but they definitely doubled down on it this year.  I honestly did not expect Kofi to win, and to do so pretty cleanly is amazing.  We'll see how long he holds it, but that shouldn't cheapen his moment at all.

Agree that the pinfall in the main event muted what should have been an explosion.  Lynch had to win, of course, but they didn't get the reaction they should have gotten out of the moment.
