General Discussion / Re: More things that annoy me..

Don't cover for her.  She sounds like all the females that work with my friend at the bank.  He is constantly giving up days off, switching shifts, etc. for all the women who bitch and moan to the manager about needing time off, sick kids, friends in town visiting.  The crazy thing is that he is one of the senior staff, and has also been at the branch the longest.  Yet, since he's a man and doesn't complain like a bitch, everyone else walks all over him.  It's pretty rare for him to get two days off in a row unless he books the time well in advance.  And even then, he's still asked constantly to switch his shifts around to accommodate the stupid women who can't plan ahead.
All's well that ends well. She already had put on the calendar that she was taking the week off, but the boss caught her doing her end-around maneuver. There's 5 people in this department, and she was the THIRD person who tried to get Thanksgiving week off. She actually claimed that she put in for the week off in JANUARY, but the boss called bullshit, gave the days to me and the other co-worker, and told her to be here Thanksgiving week.

I know she won't do any of my work when I'm out, but that works for me - it'll make month-end go that much faster when I have lots to do when I return.

So, it's been a rugged year, but I scheduled my last week of vacation for Thanksgiving week. (You know, tying it in with the two days they already give you off, giving you a false sense of a slightly longer vacation.) I already had to alter my days off, because the Monday/Tuesday after the holiday is end-of-month, so the boss likes all of us to be here. So I altered it to the Thursday/Friday before Thanksgiving.

This morning, there's an E-Mail from a co-worker - one who's been with this company for nearly 30 years, mind you - saying she didn't consult the calendar, and REALLY needs Thanksgiving week off, and since I usually don't have plans, she wants me to give it up because she needs to see her mother. For, like, the 35th time this year.

I don't care if my vacation plans entailed me sitting naked in the living room, eating pizza rolls  and watching SpikeTV - I put in for this week off MONTHS ago, and I already had to alter it once. Worst of all, I'm gonna end up losing this week off if I end up giving this imbecile what she wants because a co-worker I actually like is going into the hospital in December, and I need to be here to cover for her work. My boss will probably ask me to take a different week off in December, and I'll do it, because my boss directed me toward the Cancer center that saved my life, but this is absolutely shitty.

Worst of all, the woman didn't even have the guts to approach me and ask for this to my face - she waited until I went home for the day, and E-Mailed me her sob story. She's been here so long, and has already taken a shitload of vacation, but, hey, let's screw with someone else's plans because you can't ask the boss for your time off ahead of time like the rest of the planet. Livid doesn't even begin to describe how I feel today.

Quiet, you. This thread is one of the best things about this here message board.

Not only all that but now the state of Tennessee has filed a tax lien on TNA as well.
Well, they haven't filed the lien yet, but they're dunning them for back taxes, and if they don't pay, they can enforce the lien and shut the place down.
(EDIT: Welp, I was wrong. The lien was actually filed back in September. But, again, if it goes unpaid, Tennessee can shut Impact Wrestling's offices with no warning.)

And they had to scrub the entrance music for DJ Z and Mike Bennett on Thursday, because the composer of their themes is also suing them.

All these lawsuits are going to scare away potential suitors because, even at a fire sale price, they'd have to assume all of Dixie's debt, which could actually be more than what TNA is worth at this point. Dixie should have taken Vince's money before Bound For Glory when she had the chance...

Word is that Corgan and Dixie aren't even talking to each other at this point, and that's why he wasn't at Dixie's all-hands meeting.

I imagine that meeting going something like...

"Remain calm... All is well!"

This one I've done before, I'm sure, but I don't care.

When you order a sandwich from a deli or a sub shop, and when they cut it in half at the end, they don't push the knife all the way through. So you try to pick up half the sandwich, and you end up pulling the other half of the bottom slice of bread with you. So then you have to perform pull-apart surgery on the bottom 1/3 of your sandwich.

This should be a fireable offense.
This also goes for pizza. Lately, it's as if they're afraid to cut through to the bottom of the box, which means I'm either pulling the slices apart myself, leaving half the cheese and toppings behind, or grabbing a knife to finish a job I had no idea it took two people to complete.

Get it together, Big Pizza.

It's really the ultimate 'everybody wins' situation if this comes to fruition. WWE gets the video library of TNA, so they can put out complete DVD sets for AJ Styles, Sting, Ric Flair, Bobby Roode, Samoa Joe and others. (Not to mention the TNA library on the Network.) Billy Corgan gets to keep the talent, arena and TV contract under a new banner, and Dixie gets two paydays.

At least Corgan wants to try and make everything work for his talent, and scrubbing that ridiculous name (how did the acronym 'TNA' actually last for 14 years, I ask you), unlike Dixie, who wanted to rub elbows with the wrestlers and throw daddy's money around. In fact, the absolute best thing about this could be that we'll never have to associate Dixie Carter with pro wrestling again, unless she pulls a Vince Russo and tries to interject herself into a small independent promotion.

If I were Corgan, I'd want an assurance that PopTV would keep the show at least until mid-2017. Without a viable TV deal, this is just WCW 2.0.

General Discussion / Re: Designated Survivor
« on: September 22, 2016, 03:46:46 PM »
I am always intrigued by 'what-if' scenarios (I really need to watch Amazon's The Man In The High Castle, which explores an America where the Axis Powers win WWII), and this show grabbed me with the entire idea of wiping out the core of the US government via the State of the Union speech. Apparently, the concept of the 'designated survivor' is a fairly recent one, and it only really got traction after 9/11.

Along with what was already mentioned, you have the aspect of the teenage son being a drug dealer (he deals some ecstasy just before the Secret Service barges into the rave he was at, looking for him), the General immediately dismissing the new President at every turn, and the one little bit where the FBI agent notes that there was no terrorist chatter before or after the attack, which adds a layer of intrigue as it's not the 'usual' baddies like ISIS or Al Queda. And Kiefer was pretty badass to the Iranian ambassador regarding a potential blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

The first episode is basically the attack, and it's immediate aftermath. The episode ends with Kiefer starting his speech to the nation. Really interested as to where this goes. Hopefully, ABC gives it a nice long run.

Wrestling & MMA / Re: Cruiserweight Classic is AWESOME!

Even though it was widely speculated, it was smart of Trips not to reveal the Cruiserweight title until the final. Had they revealed it before the semis, most of us would have known ZSJ and Ibushi weren't advancing to the final because neither had signed WWE contracts...

Missed the damned DIY tag match. Stupid trash night and torrential rain conspired against me.

That was a fun tournament. As long as they let the cruisers wrestle their styles (like they did in the tournament) and not the 'WWE style', then this division will truly be a breath of fresh air on the red brand.

And what is the deal with Michael Cole suddenly not being able to tell wrestlers apart? He called Seth "Roman" several times last night, and his inability to tell Cesaro apart from Sheamus is out and out baffling.

It's to the point where Botchamania has an entire Michael Cole section on their most recent videos...

He burned some bridges in both AAA and LU when he rejoined WWE last year. Still an option, but he essentially walked out on them and then didn't drop the World championship as promised.
I had forgotten about that. Excellent point. Technically, ADR was the AAA champ and WWE US champ simultaneously when he beat Cena last year...

"What's Albert of the River and his Page doing in the Impact Zone?"

Hey if we get ADR vs. Lashley and Paige vs. Gail out of the deal, I won't complain...

Considering the current financial woes over at Impact Wrestling, I'd be looking for ADR's return to Lucha Underground or AAA before waiting for his debut in the Impact Zone...

Wrestling & MMA / Alberto del Rio and Paige suspended.
« on: August 17, 2016, 06:52:17 PM »
Within hours today, WWE announced that Alberto del Rio and Paige were suspended due to their first violation of the wellness policy. Seems plausible, as they're dating each other, and they could have been romantically sharing from the same pill bottle...

What's interesting is that ADR and Triple H are both unhappy with his current run in the company, and rumors abound he'll be out of WWE by October. Could this be a way to get both ADR and Paige off TV before they leave the fed? Any idea when Paige's current contract is up? Could we see them both in Lucha Underground in 2017?

Automated fixtures in public restrooms.

Toilet: Halfway into your dumpage, the machine is set off by a flying dust particle, sending ice cold water shooting straight up to your bunghole. Then, when you complete your business, the stupid thing doesn't flush, meaning you have to go back in and find the manual override button to send that along it's merry way.

Soap dispenser: Never does anything when you put your hand directly underneath it, immediately squirts a stream of soapy goodness directly into the bowl of the sink when you move it away in a vain attempt to reset the mechanism.

Sink: Same as the soap dispenser. Never goes off when you stick your hands underneath the thing, immediately fires off a 3.5 second stream of water that takes your hands exactly 3.1 seconds to get under - barely enough to get your hands damp.

While technology has brought us wonderful conveniences, I prefer my washroom experience to be of the old-school manual variety.

Wrestling & MMA / Re: 2016 WWE Draft Week (RAW + SD)
« on: July 17, 2016, 08:22:15 PM »
Some of my thoughts:

Interesting that the two secondary champs are noted with their managers/significant others. I read scenarios that had them separating Rusev from Lana, and Miz from Maryse. Both women can wrestle, so that's totally plausible.

If they do break up the Dudleys, it probably signals the death knell for D'von. In the past breakups of the Duds in both WWE and TNA, Bubba proved he could work singles, while D'von was totally lost. I could see Braun Strowman being taken away from the Wyatt Family, plus a lower-tier team like the Social Outcasts or Golden Truth being broken up - no sense in splitting New Day, Anderson/Gallows, Enzo/Cass, et al.

I'd be interested to see where Roman Reigns ends up being drafted - not so much brand, but draft position. It could be an indicator as to just how much his stock has fallen in the wake of his suspension. But I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he was still drafted high.

Also interesting, Kalisto and Sin Cara are listed as singles wrestlers, not as the Lucha Dragons.

And if everything about what Josh wrote about NXT is true, who's the sixth person? It seems interesting that only 5 wrestlers participated in that 'goodbye' moment - is Bobby Roode or Austin Aries getting fast-tracked to the main roster?

You know how some people hold up a line by fishing out their cards/cash/checks after getting to the register?

Got behind one woman who whipped out a newspaper/coupon guide, spread it out across the checkout counter, and very deliberately browsed through it.

Gah! Nothing worse than standing in a queue for a bus for 15 minutes, then, once it starts loading, one of the chumps in front of you is struck by the realization there's a farebox, and you have to put money into it to ride, and spends the next 5 minutes going through the wallet, pockets, socks, whatever, looking for $5. (Even better are the women who bury their Eco-passes at the very bottom of their bag that they have to fish through to locate.)

So, you were standing in line for 15 minutes, and not once did you think "I'd better see if I have enough money to ride this thing"...

Elevator lurkers.

You press the button on the elevator, and wait for the doors to open. There's someone in there, but they don't step out. Then, just as you move to get on the elevator, the moron comes to the conclusion that THIS is the floor number he pressed, and proceeds to walk off, always meeting you at the pinch-point of the door.

Look, the damn thing has a display of floor numbers, and beeps every time it passes a floor. Even with my expensive noise-cancelling headphones on, I know when my floor is coming up, and move toward the doors so I can step off immediately. People cannot be this stupid, can they?

It's funny seeing people upset and having to take their kids out of the theater because the movie was inappropriate for children.

Umm, it's rated R. What did you expect?

And it's not like the old days, where they just said "rated R", and that's that. Go to any movie website (or, hell, look at the poster in the lobby of  the theater), and they'll tell you why it's rated R. In this case: 'for strong violence and language throughout, sexual content and graphic nudity'.

I am certainly not a superhero/comic book movie person. But I need to see this - much the same way I needed to see Guardians of the Galaxy. The hero has Cancer. And he's a smartass. He's snarky commentary about his commute from being... me. (He's better looking, though. Even after the procedure.)

The Torch has an excellent timeline of the events between AJ Styles and TNA. In a nutshell, the negotiations were only with AJ to begin with, AJ brought in Doc and Karl, they finalized an agreement, but they never signed the actual contracts. WWE countered with a once-in-a-lifetime deal for the three of them (and Nakamura) which they couldn't refuse.

Again, the timing is interesting with the rumor that Styles might be in the Rumble. TNA trying to get one last rub off of one of their originals, I suppose.

What's most interesting is that TNA didn't release this information until all of the "AJ Styles in the Royal Rumble" talk started this week. If Dixie had some sort of signed legal deal as far back as December, they should have sent a cease and desist to Titan Tower when the first Bullet Club story appeared on WWE.com.

It screams 'publicity stunt' in my eyes. If you go to Impact's website (I had a direct link from prowrestling.net) all you see is a giant photo of AJ Styles. You have to click on it to read the story about the contract negotiations.

Shit might have just gotten real. Impact says they signed AJ, Gallows and Anderson before Christmas, but they all backed out. Nakamura wasn't involved with the negotiations. From the TNA website...

Quote
“A handshake and written deal between AJ, Drew, Chad and TNA was agreed upon and signed by all. Start dates were determined, creative decided, merchandise designed and plane tickets purchased. Over the Christmas holiday, and after the lawyers finalized the long form agreement, all communication with TNA stopped. AJ’s lawyer contacted TNA and stated the wrestlers had changed their mind and would not be honoring their commitment to TNA.”
