Austin podcast gets heated
« on: June 02, 2015, 12:39:59 AM »
Amazingly, they turned a shoot interview show into an angle to set up a possible Austin/Lesnar match at WM32. Masterfully done, uncomfortable. Should get some people talking. Maybe not here, but elsewhere!

I get why they would but god i hope not. I'm resigned to the fact that Austin is retired due to his health and am happy he's found a medium to continue being in the business. Let one of the new kids take the fight to Lesnar

He said it'd be a Texas Deathmatch, a brawl, so he probably wouldn't be bumping too much.

He is good at brawls so I'm sure it'd be fine and it's definitely better than Hogan trying to get a match, but still.

I think they'd lift the blade ban for Steve. Add in blood, some TV-14 violence, and a wild brawl, he doesn't have to take more than a handful of bumps and it'd still be awesome.

"I don't give a damn about the money. I ain't doin' it unless I can bleed!"

And the blade ban would be lifted, lol. They gotta get 100,000 people in there somehow!

Your last sentence is what has me thinking they may actually go with it. I don't see them drawing 100K with the current roster. Austin/Brock would do a great job in helping to fill that place.

The scenario you put I'd ok with but still, I just worry for Austin's health.

Busy last night, didn't watch RAW and didn't watch this live.

Got online late to check the ole cut and paste news sites to see what happened and saw lots of 'Heated exchange on Austin's podcast!" headlines.   I read no further and loaded this shit up on the Network.

Got to the part where Steve asked Paul why the Jews control all the diamonds, Hollywood and the banks and figured that was the 'heated exchange' that had everybody in a huff.

Turns out the heated exchange was the cripple doing "Catchphrase Promo #2" at the end.    Yawn.

I have zero desire to see 50 year old, one armed, no kneed Steve Austin have another match.

You know what guys?

I don't think anyone here actually likes wrestling anymore.

EDIT: Seriously, it's a Steve Austin promo. You haven't heard one in years. YEARS. Explain to me how all the other wrestlers are out there are cutting different promos every night. OH YEAH, THEY'RE NOT. IT'S RASSLIN' FOR SHIT SAKE. THEY HAVE CATCHPHRASES AND SHIT. THEY SAY A LOT OF THE SAME STUFF TIME AND TIME AGAIN! THAT'S PART OF THE FUN. Then you have guys who can mix it up on the fly, like Steve (the part about giving Paul a hard time about getting text messages while he was trying to talk about Brock Lesnar turned the discomfort level up to 10 while watching it live). I'm glad you can all live in a world where this sort of thing isn't impressive to you! And by all I mean the two clowns up there who watch rasslin' with their arms crossed and smug little douchey "IMPRESS ME" looks on their faces the whole time! YOU KNOW WHAT? YOU KNOW WHAT? THERE'S THE DOOR, MAN! THERE'S THE DOOR!

*ahem*

Sorry, steroids.

Since Punk left I'm not sure there is anybody on the WWE roster who I actively dislike.

I watch NXT every week, I watch the PPV's, I watch RAW and Superstars once every few weeks,  I rarely watch Smackdown.  I watch and hour or two of CMLL's terrible television every week.

I just dont like Austin.

I didn't like him in WCW.  I hated the Hollywood Blondes.  I hated him in WWE.  I hated the advent of the 15 minute RAW opening monologue with Austin doing and saying the same shit week in and week out.  His character and personality don't engage or interest me.  I'm from Kansas and know plenty of Austin types and it just isn't my scene.  The Attitude era wasn't my scene and Super Austin is probably the biggest example why.

Like Austin or quit watching?  Fuck that.

I'm not gonna stop watching Barbaro Cavernario being awesome just because 'gimmie a hell yeah' makes me fucking cringe.

What is Kevin Owens catchphrase?   What is Sami Zayns?  What is Dean Ambroses?  Austin spent half the podcast burying everybody's promos for being different than his, but now all pro wrestle promos are the same, so if I don't like Austins I'm a hypocrite because I can watch a Becky Lynch promo and not feel pandered to or feel like Im being treated like a retard?  Confusing.

Austin's fantasy booking is some of the worst shit I've ever heard.

Mark Henry should be beating Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, John Cena, Daniel Bryan, Kevin Owens etc.  with a fucking headlock?  And now nobody can do headlocks?

I can imagine Austin beign supportive of being told prior to a Mania match with brock that he can't use any punches because of the Big Show, he can't use any kicks because of Daniel Bryan, he can't use any chinlocks because of Rusev, he can't use any headlocks because he gave that to Henry, he can't use any armbars because of Becky Lynch.

And unless he's going over he can't use the Stunnner because nobody can kick out of finishers.

Did anybody tell Austin they made a $12 million gate this year at Mania?  They know where the money is.

Speaking of which, I assume "Where's the money?" or variants thereupon ("Where's my money") are on the top-10 list of things Paul Heyman has been asked most in his life.

Speaking of which, boy that Austin sure asked all the hard hitting questions, huh?  Not like that sycophant kiss ass Jericho.

Same old shit. When you dislike a wrestler, you go out of your way to make it come across as creepy and vendetta-like.

Really? That booking came from Heyman and it was great, it got the hold over and would be great to watch.
The Austin outburst at the end was how promos should be done, by someone who knows how to do them

The Mark Henry headlock stuff wasn't "fantasy booking", it was "Booking 101 How To Get Moves Over".  It started when he talked about Cena's springboard stunner being a transition move, and that it killed the stunner as a great finisher, and then he and Heyman went into how to properly build a move and educate the audience into accepting it, using Mark Henry doing a headlock as a finisher as an example, and how even something like that could be a killer finisher if you build it right.

Why is that so difficult to understand?

In the days of yore, the perfect move for Mark Henry would be a bearhug.

They didn't even fill Levi Stadium and that was around 60k'ish.  They comp'd 10k+ and still tons of empty seats were seen on camera.
