I have a confession to make
« on: February 16, 2017, 06:16:07 PM »
I can't stand Zelda games.

Never liked them, and I kept going back to them thinking "maybe if I give it a chance", but nope.

I think it's all the fetching and meandering about.  That kind of thing bores me to tears..  Searching a map for hours on end to get a hidden cave, or work my way through a maze just isn't for me.

Oddly, I enjoy games like Portal or Monkey Island, which also involve a lot of puzzle solving.  But I guess it's not so much hopeless wandering..  You never really get lost, and know what to focus on.

Wait how do you get lost and not know what to focus on in a Zelda game?  I mean sure if you're talking the first two Zelda games I get that but everyting from LttP and on is pretty straightforward on where to go and what to do...

Meanwhile the Monkey Island series is full of puzzles with extremely illogical who the hell would've thought of that answers

It's less "totally lost" and more "go get some water for this tree, and bring it before it expires.

Now do it eight more times." quests in the later ones.

Although if you take a break, it's easy to lose track of what you were supposed to be doing.

Windwaker had a definite feeling of wandering around. I remember quitting on it pretty early since I didn't know what to do.

Ocarina of Time was the opposite. You knew exactly where to go, but you had the luxury of exploring other things.

That just immediately reminds me of the Big Goron Sword side quest in OoT.  Yea I know what you're referring to now but that's mostly side quest stuff you could ignore if it bugs you lol

Windwaker is a weird one.  It's actually very straight forward for most of the game till you need to collect the Triforce Shards.  At that point fuck that game and the number 1 reason people haven't finished it is because of that.  Go find these Eight Obscure Treasure Maps with no explanation of where to find them and then get a metric fuck ton, something like 600, rupee's per map to decipher it to know where to get the piece from.  Then go there and hope you figure out what needs to be done to get it.  This was all fixed in the HD Remaster where it only requires like...three now and it's much more straight forward from what I understand

Another reason I don't like most Zelda's:  The controls are awful.

People say the old school Megaman's were harder then LOZ, but the thing about those games is they were spot on perfect to play.  The most intuitive system in any game ever.  You never, ever misjudged a jump or action because you were struggling to compensate for some unintuitive mechanical quirk (Running around that four mouthed boss that spat bullets was brutal because the controls are so bad for reflex based actions..)

Decided to break out the Zelda collectors disc I overpaid for years ago (And that people got for free.)

I was having fun until palace 6, but now I'm soo bored.

Also, why do low def games streak across hdtv's?  Like, Link's orange colors or Megaman's black outline leaves a little trail when they move.

HD Megaman 9 has a black outline, and it doesn't leave no streak.

It's partially a framerate issue but also a resolution issue and probably a bunch of other technical shit that I don't know about.  It's why I keep an old Tube TV with me for when I want to play my NES, SNES, N64, Dreamcast, GCN, or PS2
