John Tyler, tenth President of the United States, was born in 1790. He has two LIVING grandchildren. Their father (John Tyler's son) was eight years old when the Civil War started.

Another neato fact: There's a woman in North Carolina who is still receiving a Civil War pension benefit from the VA. Her father served in both the Confederate and Union armies, had a daughter nearly 70 years later (in 1930), and she still collects a $73.00 pension check from the VA each month, at age 87/88.
