yikes.

some of those comments are a bit silly though and speak to people's perceptions of what wrestling is in comparison to other entertainments.

As I said in http://a1-wrestling.com/forum/index.php?topic=4291.0

The ship had sailed in terms of anyone taking it seriously or showing an interest.

Nobody's even watched it since the Attitude era came and went, because you can't really say there's "often raunchy material" anymore... This "toning down" has happened since 2000 or so.

Granted, there's still some raunch, but only when Vinnie Mac is back on TV.

Professional Wrestling will always be in the same camp as Nascar racing, monster truck rally's, circuses, and Spike TV programming.

It can evolve however it wants, but this is how the general population sees it, as two or three steps down from "serious" adult programming.

You'd have better luck convincing people video games can be highbrow art or even entertainment on par with mainstream programming instead of entertainment for kids and basement dwelling losers.

Golf's fanbase is small but generally pretty wealthy. Same reason there can be a Logo (It's a gay network, gay people tend to have a lot of money, ain't that a neat fact? I may blow a few dudes this week to try to increase my income.)

Golf is also considered much more highbrow than wrestling. There's a whole rant I could go on about that, but this is not the time or the place.

how do you know golf's fanbase is pretty small?  it seems fairly large to me...but i haven't looked at any numbers.

i mean, it's no nfl or nascar, but i always thought they had a strong fanbase (stronger than wwe anyway).

I did mean compared to other sports that get major network coverage. I was not very clear on that. I'm not so sure that pro wrestlers aren't among the most famous people on earth.
