Did we get too old for wrestling, or does it just suck?
« on: November 02, 2015, 09:25:05 PM »
I saw the open to Raw tonight.

Reigns comes to talk. Rollins comes to talk. Rollins walks down to the ring. Triple H's music hits.

So no one can make a move without Triple H and Stephanie being involved. I just can't do it anymore. For the rest of of our lives, this is how wresting will be.

Pretty much just suck, there's some good things as STF has explained, but as a whole just hasn't been good.

It's just WWE that sucks (TNA has more than its share of sucky moments though).

I anxiously await New Japan events now because I can watch it just as a fan again.

Sounds like someone isn't watching NXT!

I think part of it is the "TV PG Era" the WWE is in now.

As soon as Vince decides he gives no fucks and wants to go back to "TV 14" and have more risque content, this will be as safe as it will be.

What's sad is Xavier Woods' Youtube channel has more creativity than 3 hours of Raw. They don't have someone telling them what their character is, they are just themselves.

Then how's come the matches today are almost universally better than the matches from the TV-14 era?

it's not the rating, it's the terrible, terrible storytelling.

Agreed, pointing to going to TV-PG is a popular talking point, but seems to have little to do with WWE's creative issues.

The main WWE shows (RAW/Smackdown) have just become so formulaic and repetitive. Intro, promo, interruption, match set up. And we're seeing the same matches weeks in a row.

NXT is just wrestling. Small but understandable and coherent story lines and it works. I much prefer NXT now and actually look forward to it.

Torgo says it better than me, as usual.

It's not the rating, it's the delivery.

If today's WWE was TV-14, we'd just have dick jokes and Divas in thongs with no difference in presentation.

This is the exact reason it sucks.  Period.

The video below best sums up how TV-14 is irrelevant.

I watch that channel a lot. You're exactly right, I'm sitting there watching and thinking, "These people have charisma, why are they doing these awful characters with them?"

Woods is awesome. New Day is awesome.

You bring up an interesting point. Maybe I'm just being Too Internet? We complain for years that the matches are short and boring, now they give us long, great matches and I don't want to watch because the storylines are weak. Am I the problem? I think nothing has hurt wrestling more than this parity booking crap.

The main event scene makes a big difference too.  For example, I think the build to Hell in a Cell was insufferable in large part due to Kane/Rollins being on top.  The midcard repetitiveness, etc. is still an issue, but when you have a hot main event program it isn't quite so glaring.

You seriously need to try watching NXT. It has simple, easy to follow stories, the characters have clear motivations, and the matches are better than the main roster. And best of all, it's only one hour a week with a big blow off show once every two months. It's pretty much the perfect way to do rasslin'.
