This was a seven-part miniseries that aired on Showtime last November. You can buy on Youtube or Amazon or some other places for like $13.00.
Back in 2015, two inmates serving life terms at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, NY escaped with the help of a prison employee. This mini-series tells the story of how they got out and what happened after. They were the first inmates to escape from a maximum security facility in about 100 years.
I loved this for a couple reasons. Patricia Arquette and Eric Lange each give phenomenal performances - her as the prison employee who helps with the escape, him as her unaware husband. They each put on 40 lbs for the role, and when you see her next to pictures of the actual woman, it's freaky. Paul Dano and Benicio del Toro play the two inmates, and they're both awesome.
But the best part is that they filmed on location in Upstate NY. Ben Stiller is the executive producer and director, and he got permission to film outside and inside the actual prison. But all the non-prison stuff was shot in and around Malone, NY - which is my mother's hometown and where she lives today. I've been up to that town dozens of times, so it's awesome to see streets I recognize and landmarks, and people. Stiller did an amazing job. It's like the first time you watch Collateral after you've lived in Los Angeles awhile, and the city is basically a character in the movie.
Anyway - highly recommend, even if you don't care about that stuff.
