My 14/15 year old yellow lab Brandy has the typical bad hips of her breed.  And now she hurt her leg. Right, it looks like.  She's afraid to even walk, and topples over if she tries to pee.

I want so badly to just let her poop and pee onto these towels set up, on a comfy doggy bed, and just spoon feed her all she wants, and wait until she passes of old age.  But it's time.  Tomorrow.

And it's done.  I held her until the end.

And now I'm at a brewery, to drink.  Alone.

I'm very sorry Doc. Having to put down a pet is the hardest thing to do.

Thank you, both.

I haven't cried this much when my beloved Grandmother passed away.  Or from other pets.

The difference is, they were all breaking down or suffering.  One dog had a heart condition, another one lost so much weight from cancer he was reduced from 75 lbs to 25 lbs, and started crying out at night.  Putting them down was horrible, but also a mercy.

But yellow lab Brandy?  She had a good appetite.  She was very aware, very vital.  She didn't seem to be in any pain.  But her rear legs began to get real weak, and finally a front leg started limping.  And the limp got worse, and worse, until she fell over trying to pee, and was afraid to even try and walk.  It happened over the course of a few days, when she was easily bouncing up from her bed this past weekend.

There was some other things, like lumps on her stomach, which may have been cancer (Or not.  She had a big benign tumor for the past several years), and she had an infection causing her to pee blood for a time, which cleared up.  But an examination found several masses over some organs and up her tract, which is always a bad sign.

But in the end, it was all for a bad leg.  Seeing that tail wag, those bright eyes looking for treats, her tongue licking your nose, don't think I can accept this was right, even though I know it had to be..

This sounds similar to our dog I had to put down in 2013 - so very sudden. She had a mass on her side that was suspected as cancerous but we had surgery done and the lump removed and were given the all clear. Then in the fall, I had the dogs one weekend when I was getting ready to move out. She was lively, normal, happy, the same dog I was used to being around. She was running around all over the place. Then I got a call two days later that my ex had her at the vet and she was getting put down, so I had to race over there. Turns out the cancer was in her spleen, and surgery wasn't an option. She quit eating, she wouldn't get up, but man she still looked at you with love and wagged her tail when I was around. Surgery would have given her another few months, but she wouldn't have been able to walk. Hell, I'm breaking down even writing this today, 5 years later.

I send prayers and good thoughts to you, friend.

That being said.  Jim Neidhart passed today.
