Episodes One and Two premiered tonight. A local boy turns up brutally murdered in a small Georgia town. Video, eye-witness testimony, and a mountain of forensic evidence all point to the guilt of Terry Maitland, local Little League coach (played by Jason Bateman). But other video and forensic evidence places Maitland seventy miles away at the time of the boy's murder. Ben Mendelsohn plays Ralph Anderson - the detective tasked with sorting it all out.
My thoughts:
Jason Bateman gets himself killed off at the start of the second episode, and honestly, without him, it's harder for me to stay interested in how this all plays out. Now the story isn't about "Will Terry's be proven innocent" as much as it's about "Will the lead detective (himself battling through grief and psychic trauma) be able to find out what happened?" I'll come back next week to give Episode Three a look, but that's where I am right now.
