Thinking of picking up a hard drive
« on: February 17, 2011, 12:19:05 PM »
..for my 360.  It's a 4gb slim version, so I believe my only options are the 250gb models.

Anyone have experience with second hand drives, or buying them third party?  They go for about 70 bucks off Amazon used, for the "official" MS drives, which I believe are the only ones with backwards compatibility.

Never bought an after-market drive. Both my XBoxes came with 250 GB drives.

I would think that rules around standard hard drives would apply, since all the XBox drive is, is a standard HDD wrapped in a MS chassis. I would just be wary that the drive is transported/shipped safely, and you have to consider how much the used drive was used/abused, as there may be risk of bad sectors/damage.

Personally, I would just buy a brand new one, but that's just me. I know you like to save a buck or two when you can. ;)

44 bucks.  caveat emptor and all that.

Or, you could buy a used 360 HD of the old style, crack the case, then anthro-engineer it yourself like above...
