Behind The Squared Circle Forum Rules
« on: August 29, 2010, 06:33:37 PM »
Hello everyone and welcome to the new Behind The Squared Circle forums!

Below are the rules we expect everyone to follow when using the forums. Failure to abide by these rules may result in suspension or banning.

1. We expect everyone to be treated with respect.

We understand that everyone comes from all different walks of life and different backgrounds, races and religions, and everyone has their own (strong) opinions on various topics. "Relaxed disccussion" is bound to occur in the Politics forum, and will be moderated as such, but warning, suspensions, and banning may occur if it is taken too far. In all other forums, we expect that, as a poster, you will treat others as you expect to be treated.

2. No cursing in post titles.

This forum is viewed in work locations, and on home computers in family situations. Please refrain from using curse words in post titles (titles stand out more than regular text and posts, and are easier to spot). Failure to follow this rule will result in your post being edited by a moderator, or removed if it is excessive. Cursing is allowed in posts, but NOT in the post title.

3. No Flaming.

As this is a discussion forum, and everyone will have their own differing opinions, conflict is bound to occur. Please respect the opinion of others. Flaming, or personal attacks, will NOT be tolerated, and will result in your post being removed, a suspension, or banning.

4. No trolling.

Please keep all posts/replies relevant to the topic at hand. Any trolling in general, or directed towards particular members will not be tolerated. Failure to follow this rule will result in your post being edited by a moderator, or removed if it is excessive. Suspensions and banning may also occur.

5. Nude/pornographic material

Please keep all posts containing nude or pornographic imagery in the Nudist Colony. The Nudist Colony is a private forum where users must request permission to view where this material may be posted. If material of such nature is posted outside this forum, it will either be moved, or removed. Material of this nature containing individuals *suspect* to be a minor is illegal, and the post will be immediately removed, and authorities may be contacted.

6. Graphic content

In addition to pornography, posts containing content which may be offensive to users will be deleted upon request, or at the discretion of the moderator. This includes, but is not limited to the following: sexual situations, content depicting a crime being committed, or content of a violent nature.

7. Reputation System

Behind The Squared Circle uses the Good Post/Bad Post modification system where users may rate a post that they like or dislike. This results in a gain or loss of "reputation" on the board.

We expect that this system will be used with "fair play" in mind. Treat others as you want to be treated.

- rate the post and its content itself, and not the poster. If you don't get along with another poster, don't negative rep them "just because" they're that person.
- users that deliberately troll the boards and mass negative rep topics or other users are subject to warning, suspension, or banning at the discretion of the Administrators.

Any perceived misuse of the reputation system is subject to warning, suspension, or banning at the discretion of the Administrators.

The rules, of course, are subject to modification, and new rules may be added.

Please have fun when using the forum, and respect your fellow users.

Thank you,

The Management

Good deal.  It's good to have a firm set of rules this time.

So far, I haven't censored any words. I'm hoping that we can all be somewhat good about it, but if it gets out of hand, we'll go back to the old ways.

He may not even know about the board since I believe the folks who know about it are through facebook.  Did anyone have him on their facebook?

I found out about it just by accident. I have not been on FB very long and don't have anyone except CJC on   it.

I emailed him now to tell him about it. We'll see if he joins.

A man on the corner of 5th and Washington told me about it. He was wearing a trench coat and smelled of Brut.

On the graphic content front maybe the nudy forum could be used for that plus gorey stuff etc. That way it at least would be private. Just a thought.

"retarded" is banned, fwiw.

You can't say "It's retarded."

It's not banned. You're just not allowed to say it. I think by "banned" words, he means words that show up as ******.

I think you can still use the word retarded if it has a serious, legitimate context and attribution.

I see.

But if you use it without legitimate context and attribution, you get post raped by a mod.  Even tho a quick search shows numerous other people using it in an even worse context, but I digress.

I have an aversion to the word in the wrestling forum (the only public forum I moderate) when there are a few people who post here with special needs kids. I took it out as a courtesy to them. I didn't single you out, yours was just the first post I've seen in this forum that the word in question in it. Just don't use that word in the future in the wrestling forum (and really, I don't even like seeing it in politics either, especially since at least one of the people with said children posts there) and we're good.

I have a totally different way of looking at the use of those types of words, but I'll respect the board.  I just wasn't aware that it was thread edit worthy.  I'll refrain from using it in the future.

I think we also need to be mindful of context. I'd rather not be censoring people unless it's warranted, but consider how the word is used today. Kinda like how "gay" is bandied about without always really meaning homosexual.

Daniel Bryan losing again and having Sin Cara turn on him was retarded.

HHH is acting like he's retarded.

I personally really only have a problem with the latter, used in the context of describing a person and a condition. The former has evolved into being a statement of opinion, like the aforementioned "that's gay".

But, mods, if you take issue with it, do what you feel is right, and I don't think anyone should be complaining if it's edited. I can agree here for the greater audience that it's better safe than sorry.
