BREAKING NEWS: TNA Listens To Zandrax
« on: January 10, 2013, 06:27:15 PM »
OK, maybe not literally, but this is exactly what I have been asking for for years.

http://www.impactwrestling.com/news/item/4010-NEWS-TNA-IMPACT-WRESTLING-Announces-Major-Changes-To-2013-Pay-Per-View-Strategy

TNA will have only four PPVs this year: Genesis, Lockdown, Slammiversay, and Bound For Glory.

A dose of reality from Meltzer:

http://www.f4wonline.com/more/more-top-stories/118-daily-updates/29216-thurs-update-major-changes-to-how-tna-does-ppv-impact-preview-el-generico-update-bret-hart-update-several-names-at-nxt-tapings-spike-in-talks-with-group-that-promoted-new-years-eve-junior-seau-eddie-alvarez-mania-weekend-wwe-video-game

"TNA is completely revamping how it does PPVs.  They are now going to cut back to only four shows per year as live PPVs, Genesis on 1/13, Lockdown on 3/10, Slammiversary on 6/9 and Bound for Glory on 10/13.  To fulfill contracts, they are going to tape three hour shows and air them as monthly PPV shows on the first Friday night of each month.  This lowers the expense, eliminating having to buy satellite time and other costs of a live production.  Basically it is an acknowledgment that the PPV business the way they've been doing it is not cost effective.  It's one thing to cut back from 12 shows to 10, but this is a major step backward as far as ability to compete at the major league level, but obviously one brought upon by financial realities."

How were the PPVs making them more competitive though?  This doesn't really change anything other than put some cash back in their pocket.

Also, to clarify there still will be monthly PPVs, but only those four will be live and hyped. The other ones will be labeled "One Night Only" and look to be standalone concept shows. And they likely will be separate from regular storylines. They will also only be $15.

TNA X-Travaganza, featuring the stars of the X-Division (airing in April, taping 1/13).

TNA Joker's Wild Tag Team Special, featuring enemies teaming and a Battle Royal final (airing in May, taping 1/13)

TNA Hardcore Justice 2 - ECW reunion style "hardcore" show featuring hardcore stipulation matches bringing in ECW talents.

TNA "10 Reunion" - Stars from the early days of TNA battling inside a Six-Sided ring.

TNA Knockouts Knockdown - One night Knockout tournament with the first round being all stipulation matches and the final four in a "test of their stamina" to see who the final victor is.

TNA International Incident - One night tournament featuring talent from " United States, India, Mexico, Ireland, Canada, Germany, Japan & the UK" with the winner earning a TNA title shot.

TNA X-Division World Cup Tournament - four teams of X-Division wrestlers in a one night tournament featuring singles, tag, six man and eight man tag bouts.

TNA World Cup of Wrestling - Four teams, each captained by a TNA wrestler featuring a Heavyweight wrestler, a tag team and an X-Division wrestler battling in singles, tag and stipulation bouts. The finale will be a "two ring, triple chance Battle Royal."

"TNA told its VIP ticket holders today that tonight's show will be the only live PPV show in Orlando.  From now on, the four big shows per year will be done on the road."

No spoilers but there was apparently a lot of positive buzz about the two PPVs taped yesterday.

The pre-taped shows are apparently there just to satisfy contractual obligations to the UK and possibly some other markets. They may well drop them when those contracts are satisfied.

I'd like them to stay around though, the concepts are pretty decent and the fact that they aren't built around the TV means they should mostly just be matches with proper finishes instead of the usual screwy finishes that they use just to continue storylines.

No matter how ridiculous Meltzer may try and make this sound, it's a good move by TNA.

Today TNA is taping two PPV's that will air in December 2013 and February 2014 respectively.
With that being said:
Hardcore Holly is on the Hardcore Justice show to air in December.  And The Young Bucks had a ladder match with Daniels and Kazarian.
They'll visit the Impact Zone within six months.

The lease is up, so the location will likely be leased to somebody else.
