Tiger notches his fourth win of the year taking home the Players Championship.  Interestingly, this is on a course that Tiger has not historically owned (unlike Bay Hill or Torrey Pines).  He seems to be building more and more confidence as the year goes on, so the US Open next month could be something special to watch!

He really only made one huge mistake (the tee shot on 14). He was pretty dialed in on his putter for the most part. He's so close to being back in that zone, he's actually got one foot in it. I think he needs just a little more distance control, but he's just so good right now.

One of the best parts of the Players was watching Sergio melt down. ;)

How can anyone root for Sergio?  That guy is a tool.

No kidding right? "WAAAAAH Tiger pulled a club out of his bag in the middle of my swing!"*

Except that it wasn't in his swing, he had barely even addressed the ball yet. He had plenty of time to back off and reset if there was an issue. Fuck Sergio.

The funny part is that Tiger responded to the effect that - "Not surprising that Sergio is complaining about something," to which Sergio responds - "Yeah? Well, at least I'm being true to myself."

I told my uncle Sunday, "Well if you're in second behind Sergio you've got to be feeling pretty good about yourself."  My only regret was I wasn't watching when he melted down.

The Garcia train wreck continues:

http://espn.go.com/golf/story/_/id/9299934/tiger-woods-tweets-reply-sergio-garcia-fried-chicken-remark

Quote from: ESPN
Garcia <snip> was asked in jest at a European Tour function if he would be inviting Woods to dinner during next month's U.S. Open.

"We'll have him round every night,'' Garcia said, according to multiple media reports. "We will serve fried chicken.''

According to media reports, Garcia left the European Tour awards dinner Tuesday night at the BMW PGA Championship in Virginia Water, England, before he could be questioned. He later issued a statement through the European Tour.

"I apologize for any offense that may have been caused by my comment on stage during the European Tour Players' Awards dinner,'' Garcia said. "I answered a question that was clearly made towards me as a joke with a silly remark, but in no way was the comment meant in a racist manner.''

Garcia was addressed the media on Wednesday in England and apologized again, saying "my answer was totally stupid and out of place. I feel sick about it."

At least he apologized for it, but geez, that was pretty dumb.

Sergio Garcia is like the most unrootable guy in all sports I think.

Local sports talk host Chuck Oliver said this earlier today on Twitter @kingcfb:

Quote
Sergio has achieved the impossible: he's made Tiger look like the mature, enightened one in this situation.
