I posted a rambling comment on your blog for those that don't mind getting into the spoilers.

...but...isn't that their gimmick?

Seriously. "Trying to look cool?" They have fucking dildos on their heads.

I don't think anyone here "gets" The New Day.

EDIT: Sorry, reading back, FATSEXY gets it. And The Spoiler. Some weeks I hate them because they're so obnoxious, and then the next week they're back to cracking me up. Kofi at the Rumble was great. They were the big highlight of a Rock segment (I dislike face Rock).

That's kind of the problem with New Day though.  They've settled into this place where they are either entertaining and you enjoy watching them, but don't dislike them or they are cringe-worthy and the bit falls flat and you don't want them on TV.  What they struggle to do IMHO from the discussions surrounding them is generate real heel heat.

When the crowd was chanting for Xavier to play the trombone at the Rumble and then he teased that he would do it and then he didn't...they got real heat, lolol.

That type of stuff is an example of the little things they do to generate some heat.  They've also done the "insult the home team" type stuff.  Dylan pointed out the other day that at the WWE shows they went to there was a ton of New Day merch out in the crowd.

New Day are basically Edge & Christian now in that they really aren't true evil heels, but rather ones that make you laugh so you buy their merchandise. It's been very effective so far.

Having heels like that is a problem though.  It's not a problem for them, but it is for the faces and from a storytelling standpoint.  Similar problem with the nWo (The Outsiders especially).  I also think New Day gets more "go away heat" with a segment of the fanbase than other groups.  My solution is to just turn them face, but do it in a way where you don't really change anything about them.

The faces of the WWE are usually the douchebags who cheat and beat down their opponents for no reason, so it's fine.

Their merchandise is selling well, so it can't be go away heat. Sometimes their segments run a bit long, but they're successful so far.

Look at last night's show though.  People like Ambrose and Reigns and they put them up against the heel New Day and what are the people doing?  Chanting "New Day Rocks!" before the match.  That 's not remotely helpful.  It's just like the nWo, being a face against New Day is counterproductive because either people actually like New Day or don't want to see them on TV.  They are not effective heels which is fine except from a storytelling standpoint you are still insisting that they are heels.

You also hit on something else.  It seems people have two positions on faces in modern wrestling.  If they are fairly upright, trusting, do the right thing they are lame or dumb.  If they have an edge to them at all or pay a heel back for repeated heelish behavior people claim they are basically heels.
