Wednesday Night Warfare
« on: October 02, 2019, 11:16:09 AM »
NXT reportedly to be opening up with Riddle vs. Cole.

And AEW's first show is tonight. I'm excited. Just last year I saw MJF and Marko Stunt live and now they're regularly on national TV

Jericho attacks Cody after he gets the win

Balor interrupts Cole's celebration and says he is NXT

So far IMO the wrestling on NXT has been better with Cole Riddle and Io Mia. More angles on AEW

Both shows ended with heels going over and we got the debut of Jake Hager, the former Jack Swagger.

My overall thoughts will be on the next episode of the Wrestling Brethren podcast

And as I type this Champa comes out to confront Cole as he's celebrating with the rest of the Undisputed Era over their victory over the Street Profits

I haven't watched NXT.

I liked AEW more than I thought I would. I really enjoyed the matches. Jericho really works when they let him be a pompous ass that thwarts the good guys.  PAC and Page was PPV quality.

I don't know who should get to dethrone Jericho. Omega might work.  Cody isn't the answer.

Both shows were good. AEW hit all the notes they needed to show they were ready for the big leagues. NXT had several big feeling matches.

A few minor issues with AEW, mainly both interview segments that were interrupted with attacks

But from an in-ring standpoint, these were both miles better than the MNW era shows

AEW got 1.4 million viewers to NXT's 900,000.

Dollars to Donuts NXT gets moved to arenas and becomes Raw/Smackdown part 3

During the WCW run Thunder was pulling from 1.5 to 2.5 million riding on the coattails of MNW.  I expect a little slip next week. Things are different now with streaming and DVRs.  Do They still do the ratings after 3 days?

Did Jericho put an end to the WE THE PEOPLE chant?

Yes he said We The People sucked and it was a bad idea from creative - and that it's dead and buried.

Jericho without a leash (seemingly) is a breath of fresh air.  That was one of the best shutdowns ever!

Jericho took everyone to promo school. Nearly 3 decades in the business and still going strong.

What are your thoughts on Marko Stunt, Koppo?

Seems he was a very polarizing figure on social media last night

I think Marko did great.  Happy to see him on TNT.  Sucks that Luchasaurus is injured because that crowd would have gone insane for him.

Cool. I was just curious because there was a lot of outrage over how he's exposing the business and all that, like Rey Rey didnt do that earlier or Undertaker talking from "beyond the grave" didnt either

Any idea which wrestlers make 7 figures?  Assuming the following currently do:

Brock
Roman
Rollins
Becky
Orton
AJ

The list who wouldn’t shock me if they do:

Charlotte
Daniel Bryan
King Corbin (Just Kidding)

What about Cody and The Bucks?

I don't think Charlotte does, I think DBry does.

If one of the ladies makes it it's probably Becky.

I don’t think JR and Tony knew what to make out of Orange Cassidy.

Big heel turn over on NXT.  Keith Lee was robbed tonight.

The turn on NXT was definitely well done. I knew it was coming but the execution was surprising  I might like this if we get the Rock and Roller Balor

The thing AEW is doing well is presenting new stars. We all know how WCW kept dropping the ball when it came to elevating new guys. WWE brings in new people, but they only get so high before they plateau.

The segment with Cody going after Jericho was Heel 101.
I DARE YOU TO CROSS THAT LINE
*crosses line*
OK... I DARE YOU TO CROSS THAT LINE
Regarding Marko, I think he did as great as could be expected. The gimmick with Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus is "the boy and his friendly monster". Marko is the third part of the act. Unfortunately Luchasaurus got hurt, so Marko was the replacement that made the most sense.
In the end, they still lost. I think The Bucks taking Canadian Destroyers off ladders do far more damage to the business than a small guy kicking out of a double team move.

Cody’s talk with Schiavone in the limo was fantastic.

Jericho wore an awesome suit tonight.
