Most profitable Wrestlemania ever

Other than event payouts, what are they spending the money on? Fire codes won't even let them have indoor pyro.

Night 1 was awful.  AJ & Taker was almost WCW level of crap.  They really should have waited for attendance to return.

It was weird watching matches in a glorified TV studio with no audience. Either you can get past that, or you can't.

I actually liked Taker and AJ - except for Taker teleporting from in the grave to behind AJ, which was a step too far. The rule is, if you don't have Marty Janetty around to put on the trenchcoat and stand up in the rafters, then nix the spot entirely.

I had to pause the show last night and FFwd to catch up. Apparently I skipped over thr 8 & 1/2 minute Raw Women's Title match.  That might have been the worst match of thr night and I dont think it was either woman's fault.

That was one of the best Charlotte Flair matches ever.  I hope they get a rematch in front of an audience. It will be good if Ripley goes to a main show.

I think I liked the Firefly match, if you can call it that.

I also enjoyed the Firefly Funhouse Match, if only for the reason that we got to see into Bray Wyatt's head and it's amazing.

Maybe just because it's Goldberg and Brock, but to me there's been a slightly disturbing trend in big heavyweight matches lately.

Finisher - finisher - finisher - kick out - other guy - finisher - finisher - finisher - pin. Doesn't make for great matches, especially when the big belts are on the line.

Jim Cornette offers his thoughts on Cena/Wyatt.

Much to my shock, he wasn't a fan.

They should have been billed as WWE 2K matches, and each guy had 4 finishers "saved up" and it was a finisher/signature only match.  :biggrin_mini2:

But then they'd need to somehow get one to start randomly levitating, the ring ropes to shake out of control even when nobodies touching them, a face to slough off, and finally somebody to just super slide along the ring mat in a circles

Full (short/brief) reviews below, but I enjoyed both of the cinematic matches. I liked Orton/Edge, but it was entirely too long.

I'm higher on Goldberg sprints than most.

The two title matches were identical, as was mentioned earlier.  Didn't care so much when it was Braun/Goldberg on the first night since I knew I wasn't getting Savage/Steamboat or anything, but I was hoping for better from McEntyre/Lesnar.
I think I'm over the audience issues.  It's interesting to hear more of the banter in the ring.  Some are better than others, obviously.

Undertaker's action movie/fight scene dialogue was pretty good, I thought. A little surprising that his biker incarnation never seemed to earn him any movie roles, especially as a heavy. Calaway is 55 years old, but Liam Neeson was reinvented as an action hero when he was 56.

He's too tall for Hollywood. Same problem with the Rock, he's just too big. It's hard to do believable, hard-hitting action choreography that is up to modern standards when using such large, strong actors. That's probably one of the main reasons that Dwayne has been so criminally underused in Hollywood. He should have had roles in every major action franchise of the past 10 years, but he's been stuck doing kid friendly garbage. And why? Well, my theory is that there just aren't enough stunt men large enough to have believable and engaging fight scenes.

Most working actors in show business would love to have Rocky's problem. He's doing just fine as an action star, and his kid-friendly roles are almost certainly part of the plan, not things he get's stuck doing because there's nothing better for him.

I admit, I don't watch a lot of movies. And I hope this doesn't come off as sarcastic, but can you point out some of his action movies that are actually good, and feature decent fight choreography?

Arnold could get away with his size in the 80s, because back then most action movies and scenes within those movies revolved around guns. I've seen pretty much every Arnold movie, and I don't think he has one single hand-to-hand fight scene which isn't laughably bad by modern standards.

It's a shame, because the Rock has amazing physical acting skills. His fake punches while wrestling were some of the best looking among the main event scene at the time. He can sell, he can bump, and he is (was) surprisingly agile for a 6'4 monster.
Perhaps part of the problem with casting Rocky in a highly physical, action oriented movie is simply finding suitable stunt doubles. That was also a big problem for Arnold in his early career...
EDIT: I forgot that Dwayne has been in some of the recent Fast & Furious movies, but I haven't seen any of them except the original. So maybe he's got some good scenes in those movies, and I just haven't seen them

Rock has a cousin that has his build that does a lot of his stunt work.   It doesn't mean that there are many out other stunt doubles out there but it has helped his career so far.

I don't know where the bar is for either of those standards. I was only pushing back on this idea that Rocky's size and muscularity is limiting him in his acting career. Action movies aren't all about Man vs. Man, or even Man vs. Man w/gun. Some are Man vs. Nature (San Andreas), Man vs. Mutant Animals (Rampage), and Man vs. Burning Skyscraper (Skyscraper). Apart from his range in action movies and kiddie fluff, he's also charismatic and funny, and he lands parts which play to that as well.

Now, I don't think Mark Calaway has quite as many clubs in his bag as Rocky does, but I also don't think 6'10 is too tall for him to be a credible action star. But I think the same thing about Kevin Nash, so perhaps I'm completely off-base.

So was it the most profitable mania ever? I could have posted the topic I just made in here I guess.
