Mistico signs with WWE
« on: January 30, 2011, 02:01:00 PM »
Long rumored, but looks to be confirmed:

http://www.thecubsfan.com/cmll/?p=10403

Mistico has signed a deal with WWE. There’s been a background talk about Mistico leaving CMLL of late, especially the last week, but nothing anyone was able to definitively confirm until now. I had heard multiple rumors about his destination, but WWE had always seemed the most likely. He’s expected to head to Florida Championship Wrestling, where he’ll join Alex Koslov (and Hijo de Medico Asesino!) as luchadors training for WWE.

Mistico’s last Arena Mexico match was January 18th, the two fall loss in the main event where Porky got mad at Mistico. Mistico worked the two show NJPW tour and has not been in a CMLL ring since. It’s possible he may work a final show or two in CMLL if his Florida commitment doesn’t start right away, but he’s obviously out of the Dos Leyendas plans. Friday’s Averno/Dorada feuding was intended to create a replacement match (or relevos tag partners.)

CMLL almost certainly owns the Mistico gimmick, though WWE would likely given him their own anyway. CMLL probably won’t put someone new in the suit, because they’ve been building Sombra up as the replacement lead tecnico for about 10 months already. Astro Boy, Mistico’s brother, probably won’t be affected only because they barely use him as is.

Mistico likely told CMLL he was leaving in late December, or maybe around when the CMLL/NJPW cards first came out, because it would explain why NJPW announced Mistico as working those cards while CMLL didn’t have him listed. Even though CMLL probably knew he was on his way out, Mistico did beat Negro Casas and Ultimo Guerrero (by DQ) in singles matches during the last month.

Alberto Del Rio’s success was the catalyst for Mistico jumping to WWE. Dos Caras Jr. was never great in CMLL, but has gotten over great in WWE. The line of thinking – and not just for Mistico – is if a guy who never really got over much in Mexico got over that easily in the US, it should be easy for bigger stars to succeed. I’m not sure that’s true – a lot of Alberto’s success is due to WWE deciding he was going to be be a big star, real quick – but it definitely gives Mexican wrestlers more faith in the company compared to how guys like the Mexicools were used.

Say hello to Sin Cara:

Sin Cara joins WWE
Written: February 24, 2011
Mexico City-born ring sensation Sin Cara has joined WWE.

STAMFORD, Conn. – WWE today unveiled their latest Superstar signing, Sin Cara, formerly known worldwide as Mistico. The announcement took place today during a press conference in his hometown Mexico City, where passionate fans of all ages turned out to see their favorite performer become the newest addition to the WWE roster.

Having already forged a strong international fan following, Sin Cara, known for his high-flying style and awe-inspiring acrobatics, is expected to reach new heights of global success with WWE.

“Sin Cara is a tremendous performer who brings the crowd to its feet every time he steps into the ring,” said Stephanie McMahon, Executive Vice President, WWE. “With us, his stardom will only get bigger and brighter.”

Upon his signing, Sin Cara said, “WWE is the pinnacle of sports-entertainment. It is an honor and a thrill for me to be able to perform with the world’s best. Being a WWE Superstar will present new challenges, new mountains to climb and new competition. It is a new beginning and a new life. With that in mind, I have chosen the new name of Sin Cara in hopes to represent all the legendary Mexican masked performers and to carry the banner of their legacy to the entire world.”

I don't mind it. "Without face" for a masked guy works ok.

Sin Cara isn't bad.  Surprised they didn't go with Mystyco.

How do you say it?  If it's Sin KARA then ok, if it's Sin SARA, like Michael Cera, than maybe not so much.

I would think since there is already a Mysterio, they don't need another "Mystery" sounding name.

Name is eh, but its nice to see them pushing this so hard.  They clearly want him to be their new Rey since the old one sucks and has had about 37,000 knee operations.

We'll see Sin Cara/Mistico in a few years on Heat/Jakked/Whatever the name of the B-Show is now.

Unless he just runs away with it like ADR has.  I guess he can do an instant feud with ADR once he starts. Maybe say how ADR stole his family's wealth and touts himself as a millionaire. He could say he wears a mask because ADR disfigured his face.

I mean, I understand that he is gonna have to pick up the WWE style, but in terms of getting a hot push, he's pretty much ready. He was the CMLL version of Cena a few years ago and he basically did it all there, this was the next logical step for him.

And i'm glad that the WWE is not toying too much with his identity and character, especially with CMLL owning the rights to the name "Mistico" but the name Sin Cara, just seems like they are working a Del Rio feud real soon. (Del Rio's lucha name was Dos Caras Jr.)

I won't lie, I don't follow much outside of WWE, TNA, and a couple of american indy promotions, so I had never heard of this guy until now. I just watched a couple of videos on youtube.

Mysterio is pretty much out of work, this guy is 10x better than him. Now it can be said that there's room for more than one lucha/flippy guy of course, but basically Mistico seems like the exact same wrestler as Rey Mysterio except like I said, 10x better.

This guy will never have to cut a promo (don't know if he can or not, anyone?), all he has to do is be able to use half of his moveset, and that kickass flying headscissors into an armbar/crippler crossface looking move, and all the kiddies will be upgrading their masks.

Of course, he'll be told he doesn't know how to work and spend years in the midcard because that's how the WWE rolls.

they cut promos.

dorian said he wouldn't have to cut a promo to get over.  if he meant "good" promo, then nvm.  i took it as dorian saying he wouldn't have to cut any kind of promo to get over.  in wwe, you have to talk to get over angles and storylines.  the guys that can't do that are used to make the other guys look good in the ring.

Explain Rey Mysterio and Jeff Hardy.

Mysterio and Hardy were, for years, guys whose push lagged behind their popularity.  Hardy in particular.  Was that because they weren't great promo guys or was it because they were smaller than a prototype WWE main eventer?
