This is so weird.  It's like the 2006 US team, only not as horrible.

Freddy's skill was sorely needed against Ghana a year ago. Too bad he didn't have the total game yet.

Bring on Mexico!

Mexico is going down!

I'm amazed at how much Donovan has improved since 06.  Back then he was lazy and couldn't give a damn about playing.  Now he's probably the best to ever play for the US.  Dempsey has been great too.  Gives me hope for 2014.   :good_mini:

Is Mexico really going down? Or are we probably kidding ourselves?

It's possible, but not certain.  We've beaten them before.  The US has had problems on the pitch for a while and can flake out easily.  It depends on if the team decides to play like one instead of like a bunch of third graders.

Been flipping between the US game and the KC game.  Adu was pegged as a wunderkind about a decade back, even starting in MLS games while still in high school.  Then he kind of faded from the spotlight a bit, playing for a couple of US teams and moving to Europe.  He looked sharp in the last game and I hope this means the start of something great for him and the team, which has been lacking a really high-quality player(no offense to Donovan and the others).

And while typing this, Mexico evened it up.  Stupid Mexico.  Fun game, though.

KC was leading 2-1 going into half-time.

That is a fact. I've been thinking that the whole game.. Freddy Adu looks like a completely different player than I remember. He's really, really good.

US was soooo close to tying it up there.  Hope they can pull it out.  Mexico is looking better, but not by a lot.  I still think the US needs to learn to pass, cross and shoot.  It's frustrating to see people standing with no defenders and the ball doesn't get passed to them.

Insane 4th goal by Mexico. This one is over. Not Tim Howard's best night, but at the same time, the back 4 for the US might as well not have been out on the pitch.

I thought that was an own goal at first.

Howard has looked tired and more than a little upset at the defenders.  He can't do their job for them.

Adu subbed out.  He looked really good tonight.

I just looked at his Wiki... He's only 22! I know he started young but I figured he was a lot older than that. If tonight is not just a flash, but what Freddy's really about, he could be something very special in the future. It's good to see that the horrible start to his career didn't destroy him.

Geez, he must have been in middle school when he started with the MLS.  That's nuts.  What annoyed me about the last game was the jokes being made about him being in the lineup and how smug they were in trying to tear him down.  He's probably earned a starting position with the squad after his last two games.

He was probably the 2nd best player out there behind Chicarito(sp). Every time he had the ball, he had two or 3 dudes coming over to mark him, and every chance Mexico got, they laid him out.. He finally got gassed in the 85th minute, but he was incredible while he was out there. That bodes well for the US team going forward... Now all they need is a defense.

River Plate relegated.  Ouch.

The South American equivalent of Man Utd or Liverpool dropping out of the Premier Division.

Worse perhaps actually.  Thinking about it, both Liverpool and Man Utd have been relegated during their history.

It's more like Barcelona getting relegated.

I don't follow the Argentinian league, but have they been good recently?  Or was this a fluke relegation?

The Third Round of the US Open Cup is tonight.  Results so far:

NY Red Bulls          2-1   F.C. New York
Rochester Rinos    0-1   Chicago Fire

Columbus Crew     1-2   Richmond Kickers(!)
Sporting KC           3-0   Chicago Fire Premier

FC Dallas               3-2   Orlando City
Real Salt Lake       2-0   Wilmington Hammerheads

Seattle Sounders   2-1  Kisap Pumas
LA Galaxy               2-1  LA Blues

A bit surprised that the Crew went down, but it gives KC an easier game in the quarterfinals.

Next round is:

Red Bulls vs Chicago Fire
Sporting KC vs Richmond Kickers
FC Dallas vs Real Salt Lake
Seattle vs LA Galaxy

About three years in the making, I'm told.  They are badly run and have become progressively worse.  The Argentinian league is designed to favour bigger teams in its structure using averages, which makes this relegation an even bigger shock.

That goal by Portland was fantastic.  Even better, because KC still won.   :good_mini:

Niall, are you still manager of your local team?

I'm the Chairman, but yes that's effectively the same thing at this level, in terms of organisation and making sure the team turns up!  We have a coach who selects the team on matchdays also.

You posted the interview you did with the BBC for Football Manager a couple years ago.  That's pretty awesome, actually.  How well do they do in the league?

Richmond beat KC to knock them out of the Open Cup.  Semi-Finals are Chicago Fire vs Richmond Kickers and Seattle Sounders vs FC Dallas.

The summer friendlies have started, which are always fun.  LA got spanked by Real Madrid last night.  Technically it's part of a tournament or something, but I don't know anything about it.  KC plays Newcastle in a true friendly this Wednesday and I has tickets!  Can't wait to cheer on Santiago Munez.  :diablo_mini:   Hopefully it'll be as much fun as the Man Utd game last summer, where KC beat them despite being a man down.   :laugh_mini:
