you're right I got it wrong, but thinking about it, should it be - "A Yankees' fan"? Indicating possesive?

Nope.

Think of it like:

shoes wearer.

Yankees are what he is a fan of, not Yankees own him as a fan.

What annoys the SHIT out of me, and I might have written this before, but let's recap, is the way that ESPN has tried to impose their own version of syntax on the world, and what annoys me worse is that people have apparently fallen for it.

BobbyR even committed this offense in that thread about people taking things too seriously:

Quote from: BobbyR
A Yankee fan

ESPN apparently decided, overnight, that if you're talking about ONE fan, you should talk about the team as if it's a single unit of measure.

A Yankee fan.
A Cub fan.
An Angel fan.
A Florida Gator fan.

THIS IS THE DUMB. DUMB. DUMBEST SHIT I HAVE EVER SEEN.

The worst example is when they talk about a Red Sox fan, and they call that person "A Red Sock fan".

GO.... FUCK... YOURSELF.....

For one thing, that one fan is a fan of the team. The team is the Red Sox.

For another thing, that team name is a trademarked name. You don't go manipulating it. I don't go around telling people, "Yeah, I'm a big fan of The Simpson". Because that's fucking stupid. Should I tell everyone that my favorite team is the Chicago Bear? I'm a big Bear fan. ASSHOLES FUCK YOU!!!

I'm writing Simmons about this because I've really had all I can take.

(Note, all of the vulgarity here is directed at ESPN's idiocy, none of this is directed toward BobbyR, he can't help it that he's fallen victim.)

Hey, is TH a Four Horesman fan?

I never noticed that.

Thanks a lot dude. Now I'll never UN-NOTICE it.

Dickhead.

I hate criminals and should be allowed to shoot them if they break in to my car.

Last night my sleepy little town had a crime spree.  At some point someone broke into a few cars on the other side of town(about a mile away).  Then around 2am, while fighting off insomnia, I heard a loud boom like a mortar firework exploding.  A couple minutes later the fire department pulled up in front of my house and I realized that a truck two houses down was on fire.  It was put out in just a couple of minutes, but it's probably a total loss.

This morning, I discovered that someone had broken into my car and gone through everything in it.  Luckily I'm poor and don't keep anything in the car, so nothing was stolen.  I also found out that there was another car fire in town.  If they catch the person, I hope they beat his ass.

you blame others because you are clumsy?

This is what you take from it?

Not that button sleeves are poorly designed fashion accessories?  There must be 100 different better ways to implement them.

I'm sure the thousands of people with high blood sugar alone would have trouble with them, not to mention the elderly, or the large proportion of people with naturally large, not so nimble fingers...

"I can do the right sleeve allright, but the left ones the sticking point, thanks to clumsy right hand fingers."

uh, yeah.  that's what i took from it.  you have a clumsy right hand fingers.  but you put the ultimately blame on a button every other guy in the world (w/o clumsy fingers...which is almost everyone) has no problem with.

i've never heard a single adult male other than you complain about those buttons.

I've heard a lot of adult people complain about them.

With normal hand coordination too.

While we're talking about fashion, neckties are by far the worst fashion accessory of all time.  They're one of those things you can almost understand existing because they look vaguely natty, but have to wonder why they've survived to this day, considering you can look perfectly stylish without them.

This has got to be an act.

Yes, because god knows most people fall into the logical fallacy of appealing to tradition.

We've always had them, so anyone that argues against them is nutty.

There are things to rage against. Ties are pretty low down the list.

Unlike "than" and "then", or that Red Socks thing.

Or people and their driving habits..

Being a senior shouldn't be a free pass to new buttons, either. A lot of them can use buttons when it comes to things they enjoy, like cardigans.

Why use buttons at all?

I'm a big believer in utility over aesthetics, and buttons aren't particularly functional regardless of their location..  (And hell, on dress jackets, the buttons on sleeves don't even button into anything!)

Got to admit, I'm kind of amused question fashion conventions is drawing this kind of heat though.  Since when did questioning convention make someone an easy target?

Says more about you folks then it says about me.

For one you suggested that buttons were some sort of impossible contraption for normal people to use.

Secondly, this whole thread has been filled with nonsensical things that annoy you for reasons most of us can't fathom.

Dress sleeve buttons, are at best, an annoyance.  Even if you have no problem fastening them.

Secondly:  What exactly don't you understand about the things I'm claiming annoy me?

I hate waiting in lines, and I hate elaborate dress wear.  I like comfort and convenience.  Therefore, things contrary to that annoy me

What's so hard to understand about that?

I think, Dan, that a lot of folks here don't understand (at least I don't) how you can blame everyone else for your inconvenience. The 2 AM shopping thing is a prime example. The woman that was shopping at that time has every right to live her life as much as you do, and it just sucks that you happened to get there after she did.

Same with the giving blood thing.

It would have been more appropriate to rant *just* about having to wait so long, and keep it to that, but you look really silly trying to make comments like [paraphrased] "doesn't anyone have to work?", like it's their fault you went to the blood clinic and it was busy.

I hate waiting in line too, but it's not anyone else's fault that I happened to go some place where it was busy. Shit happens.

Here's one I have to deal with a lot: I can't stand adult human beings in the United States who have the ability to shower/bathe every morning before they come to work who do not do so.

There are exemptions to this, of course.

If you work in an office all day and you bathe the night before, fine. If you're a chick, fine, lots of chicks bathe at night, I get it.

But if you're a person who is outside for at least 30 minutes during your day, ESPECIALLY if you live in a hot environment (Mississippi), and you don't wake up and wash your nasty ass in the morning, it should be legal for me to slap the living fuck out of you with no penalty. I mention this, of course, because the dipshit I was talking about on the old board in the "stuff that annyos me" thread is sitting across the office from me, and the whole office literally smells like a freshly dug up corpse.

I just can't imagine why someone would be so lazy or so nasty that they wouldn't jump in a fucking shower for five minutes in the morning. That's all the time it takes to take a decent shower, if you jump in, slap the hot water on, warsh yourself up and warsh your hair, bam, you can be in and out in 5 minutes, 10 minutes tops and you're clean and fresh as a daisy. Inexcusable.

I do get that if you're on lunch break and you're in a traffic rush. There's something that pisses me off, all these unemployed, lazy government teet sucking pieces of garbage who wait until noon to go to the Mickey Dee's to grab some lunch. Motherfucker, why not just go at 11 or at 1 and let the people who are paying for your welfare to eat.

Let me complain non-stop about this idiot I work with.

He just, out of nowhere, talked to me about Hacksaw Jim Duggan.

"What'd you think of Hacksaw Jim Duggan when you first saw him?"
"...."
"The wrestler."
"I know who he is. I was 7. I don't know. I like him."
"Yeah. I was watchin' this thing on the self destruction of The Ultimate Warrior, it was about when he destructed himself."
"..."

There's one guy in our office that's like that as well. He's from Zimbabwe, so I don't know if they have any beliefs or anything over there, or whatever, but he's a great guy. Fun to talk to, smart guy, but I can't get within 20 feet of him. Dresses nicely too, so I don't know whether he just doesn't shower, or doesn't wear deodorant, or what, but WOW.

That's unfortunate, and I'm sure it is difficult to be around the guy, but you can at least understand it. I mean, he's from another country, another continent, on the other side of the world in a different hemisphere even (maybe? is Zimbabwe above or below the equator? I suck at geography... as well as any other subject).

This motherfuck I'm talking about grew up 30 miles from my front door, tops. And yet, here we sit, him smelling like baked horse shit. He came in last summer, his hair matted to his head, and someone busted up in here and straight up told him that he smelled like shit and he needed to take a shower in the morning. His reply? "I did take a shower this morning." He's that motherfucker who used to get caught with his hand in the cookie jar and deny he stole the fucking cookie.

There's another thing I hate: compulsive lying. People who lie about bullshit that doesn't even matter. This guy will misplace a tool, I'll say, "Have you see the hammer?" "Naw I ain't seen it." then it will be in his fuckin' truck. I mean, why lie about little dumb shit like that?

We're talking about BUTTONS fwiw.  Again the issue wasn't so much that you like to be comfortable.  The issue was you made it sound like buttoning sleeves is like going to the moon or something.

Like this, for instance, it's too good not to share:

Ol' boy got married last year. Lasted about 6 months. I told him to get the marriage annulled. He looks right at me and says, "I can't, we done constipated the marriage." I was like fFFFUUUUUUUUUUU.

actually, he made it sound like buttoning sleeves was like running a marathon with a gimp leg and it being the marathon organizer's fault that the marathon was too hard for people with gimp legs.

u nasty as fuck.

i shower once a day at a minimum. i sometimes shower because i'm bored. especially when its cold outside because i fucking love turning the shower on super hot and just standing there scratching my skin off because of the winter itch. that's the best shit in the world. i love putting baby powder on my balls after a shower. taking showers is an actual hobby of mine. i seek out new bath products from different countries and try them. the only reason i go to the gym so much is so i can have more reasons shower. on weekends i shower probably 3-4 times per day. i think i shower more than i jerk off.

No, you're blaming the guy in the wheelchair for not being able to use steps.

It's not that I'm clumsy..  It's that a piece of dressware requires that you have excellent dexterity (So most seniors are out of luck too)

IMO, that's poorly thought out design.
