I've always had an interest in influential people, whether it's religious leaders, cult leaders, political leaders and the like, but one thing that's almost impossible to find out about really annoys me:
Basically, an explanation/boiling down of the "it" factor. Take David Koresh: What made him so special? I'm sure there's many, many people who tried to get people to follow them, and failed at it. But for some reason, he managed to attract a substantial following.. He probably did everything all the failed wanna be's did, but for some reason he succeeded. Why?
Or look at Muhammed. Becomes known as a great prophet, and unites the muslim world.. So, why did they follow him, out of all the other people out there? It's not just that he attracted the attention of joe average muslim.. He'd have to convert/enlist influential, powerful people, too. And powerful people usually have huge ego's, and tend to be pretty dismissive of anyone who threatens their power... Yet, they followed him. Why?
What, exactly, is it that separates people who attract large followings, from everyone else?
You won't find a real answer in history books, or anywhere else.. All they'll say is the facts of their success, without really boiling down what made them special.
