Political pandering.

Or, making laws because it's a popular thing to do, even if the laws themselves are redundant/useless.

The Affirmative Consent Bil being a recent example. It's redundant because universities already have these policies in place, meaning they did zero research before proposing the bill. And it's useless because it's still a case of he said/she said.. Only instead of saying "I never heard no", they're gonna say "Yeah, she said yes", even if she didn't. Same burdon of proof, same problems proving it.

Constant nagging to update, or worse yet automatic updates.

If I'm fine with a web browser or app, and don't know or want features other users care about, I'd much rather keep what I have then trade up, and have to deal with the inevitable problems upgrading inevitably brings with it.

Diet/nutrition fads/misinformation.

Like the old wisdom that eggs are bad for cholesterol. Total garbage, and it's not exactly news that egg yolks are actually pretty good for you, vs the relatively low risks (Mayo clinic claims most people could have 7 a week, with no ill effects), but the myth persists for some reason..

You know how rates of car/workplace accidents, stroke, heart attack, cancer, shingles, and the Clap all supposedly increase in the days after DST? I only wish those rates were higher, so there'd be fewer people alive to complain about DST the following year.

5,000+ spams a day, many of which make it into my inbox. My Gmail rarely gets any spam at all.

But my Yahoo is connected with so many things, that it's a pain the one time I'm forced to dig for an email that was sent thirty minutes ago, and burried...

"X is holding back Y" logic.

Specifically, you hear that a lot with gaming. Consoles hold back pc development, last gen holds back current gen..

The whole thing annoys me due to the logic.. As if there's a finite set of resources split between various niches of the market, with one niche coming at the expense of another.

If consoles/last gen/pick your scapegoat ceased to exist, would they divert those resources to better development of a single product?

Or would they trim the fat, have a round of layoffs, and squeeze for profit while keeping the current market standards?

I mean, if X isn't profitable, it dies.. If the 360/ps3/Xbone didn't have some benefit, they wouldn't be sinking time/resources into.them, am I right?

Non compete clauses. Those papers they make you sign that makes you promise not to work for a competitor for a year or two.

How are those even constitutional? And the reasons behind them don't make sense.. If it's to protect trade secrets, why only limit someone from working at a competitor for a few years? How much could really change in one or two years?

If trade secrets was the concern, there's other ways to protect them without locking down someone from a good job.

Personally, I think trade secrets has nothing to do with it. These non competes effectively act as a deterrant for bidding wars for employees between companies in the same industry. Which is probably the whole point.

Steve Jobs got caught trading emails with a competitor, making a gentleman's agreement not to hire each other's help, so this issue is obviously important. It's also tremendously unethical, imo..

A friend of mine, one of the last hold outs against the book of face, sent out a mass e-mail with some elephant video. I deleted it.
Some nimrod friend of his replied to all to make an asinine political point. Pat then replied to all, removing said nimrod and apologizing

I answered Pat and told him "BCC is your friend" - I answered ONLY him. While I'm doing this a second dope replied to all to tell him to use BCC. In all caps of course

The "all parties need permission" to record a conversation laws. I believe Florida has such a law in place.

Here in CT, if you're being harrassed/threatened, you can record the conversation and use it as evidence.

I don't really understand why anyone would have a problem with this, given privacy is already limited when you talk with someone else.. someone could simply tell someone else the other end of the conversation. The only purpose to record them would be to confirm what was said for the authorities/law enforcement..

In pinball, I've always hated those two death channels on the outside of the flippers. I know that arcade games are pretty much a jack by definition, but that always seemed unfair to me.
