Sci-Fi/Fantasy R1: Count Dooku vs. Robocop
« on: September 14, 2010, 08:43:48 AM »

A former member of the Jedi Council, Dooku has a long a storied history. For starters, he learned the ways of The Force as a Padawan of Yoda himself. Served as Master for Obi-Wan Kenobi's master, Qui-Gon Jinn. However, Dooku eventually went down an evil path by learning the ways of The Sith.

Unbeknownst to everybody, Dooku became the apprentice of Darth Sideous (better known to the rest of the world as Palpatine) after the death of Darth Maul at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi. He took on the name Darth Tyrannus, and helped Palpatine orchestrate the Clone Wars to build support for his rise to power. Dooku himself lead a plantes-wide legion of "Separatists" to wage war on the Republic... all the while being in cahoots with the Republic's Chancellor.

Despite being an advanced age. Dooku has nearly unmatched Jedi and Sith powers, and his prowess with a lightsaber is very formidable. His list of defeated opponents include Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi (twice). He even matched Master Yoda in a toe-to-ears showdown at the end of Attack Of The Clones.

Auto9 - RoboCop's primary weapon; it is a 9mm handgun with a large barrel extension that fires in three-round bursts.[7] The gun remains stored in a mechanical holster which deploys from RoboCop's right leg. Though unnamed in the films, The Series referenced the Auto-9 by name and added that the main version of the weapon was modified so that no one but RoboCop could actually fire it. In Prime Directives, it could fire various types of ammunition which RoboCop could select at any given time.

The Cobra Assault Cannon used in RoboCop could fire explosive rounds equivalent to that of a grenade launcher and is based on the Barrett M82A1 sniper rifle.

Machine gun/rocket launcher - This weapon made its appearance in RoboCop 3 and was never referenced by name other than being called a "weapon arm" in promotional action figures, and a "gun arm" by the production team. To use it, RoboCop removes his left hand and replaces it with the weapon assembly. It contains a 9mm machine gun, a flamethrower and a small missile launcher with a projectile potent enough to destroy an armored vehicle.

Flightpack/recharging station - A large jetpack that allows RoboCop to fly. It also doubles as a replenishing system for when RoboCop's battery system is low on power. As seen in RoboCop 3, the jetpack allows Murphy to overcome his relatively limited mobility for tactical advantage in combat. Referred to in the film as a "flightpack" and by production as a "jetpack," some Japanese schematics also mention "Gyropack" as a name.

I will note that throughout the entire Star Wars saga, not one Rocket-Propelled Grenade or High Explosive Round saw use.

Robocop shoots at Dooku with the standard rounds which the Count deflects.  Thinking it's just another droid, Dooku slowly advances with a smirk on his face.  Robocop switches to explosive rounds, rocking Dooku and damaging his lightsabre.  Dooku recovers, starts tossing force lightning.  Being insulated against taser attacks (granted, this is assuming) Robocop shrugs it off and continues lobbing hi ex rounds until Dooku is complacently in pieces.

Sorry.  Bad year for the Jedi/Sith.

They do have rockets, as in Ep II a clone pilot makes not that "We're out of rockets". And I'm pretty sure I saw other ballistic weaponry being used on some of those wheeled craft.

I'm very possibly the biggest SW fan on this board but I don't mind SW getting the shaft because otherwise it just looks like a fanboy fest. Which of course it is, but at least it doesn't look so blatant.

I'm not talking about missiles.  The second gun on the Robocop list says it fires hi-ex rounds.  Explode on contact.  Lightsabre hits the fuse, round explodes.  That, or the rounds fired at the feet, blowing huge chunks of debris at skin-shredding speeds.

i think the clone troopers have rocket launchers too (tho that may be from clone wars cartoon).

The clone troopers had rockets.  Didn't help them against Grevious, and he's beneath Dooku.

Explosive rounds aren't much use against someone who has precognition, and can basically manipulate him with the force however he wants, from simply pulling his gun out of his hand to levitating him in mid air.

Force lightning wouldn't work though, considering he dealt with the annoying directives by wiping his system via massive electrocution, knowing his insulation would keep him from completely shorting out.

dooku uses the force to relieve Officer Murphy of his sidearm.

without his gun he's just a big, slow, walking computer

Nothing against Star Wars but the Jedis aren't going to make it with guys like Count Dooku. You need crazy determined badasses like Anakin from Episode III not slow and lethargic Vader.

Badass and Anakin shouldn't be used in the same sentence.  Got his ass kicked by Dooku.  Got his ass kicked by Kenobi.

We've seen Count Dooku in later rounds before.  The threads are never interesting.  That's why I voted Robocop.

You need to take five minutes and reacquaint yourself with Anakin vs. Obi Wan from Episode III. There's no shitty dialogue just straight up Jedi. Notice how the older and more experienced Obi Wan is struggling to keep up with the younger, more pissed off and determined Anakin.

Anakin only lost to Plot Armor. You strip away all the emo whiny crap and Anakin was a force (hurr) to be reckoned with. Luke Skywalker wouldn't've lasted two minutes against that Anakin.

lol, so you have to change anakin to make him a badass?  ooook.

as for plot armor, er...now you are saying if it wasn't for the movie, he would have won the fight?

Oh you mean you like to watch movies that have no character progression whatsoever? You like it when episodes of a TV show leave you in the same place as when the episode started and just a bunch of stuff happens? lol ooook.

Since you are an idiot I'll explain plot armor too. Yes it means Anakin had to lose. If Anakin doesn't lose he doesn't become Vader. (That's kind of important for the second trilogy!) Speaking of which in their fight from Episode IV Vader promises the outcome will be different. So if Vader wins the rematch that means he probably lost the first one.

But hey if this post makes too much sense just relax your brain and enjoy some random words: Chess. Scarf. Toy. Pillow. Apple. Sound. Flower. Box. Taxi. Hair.

I always like it when an argument over who would win a Slugfest match includes an insult like the above bolded phrase.  It bolsters my faith in humanity.

so basically, you just choose who you like and then change all the facts of what a character can or can't do; what should or shouldn't have happened in a book/film; his entire character (take away his emo pussiness) to fit your entire argument.  well done.

anakin was a whiny emo douchebag who got played by the emperor.  he lost to dooku (despite having help) and then lost to obi-wan.  these are facts.  to ignore this is just sillyness.

He's right, based on Anakins progressively higher power levels and all the talk of his strength, Obin Wan had no business defeating him..

The various fights with Dooku alone is proof of that, where Odin Wan gets taken out early and Anakin can hold his own.

Also, TVtropes.com is great for various tropes and memes, such as plot armor.

My favorite is the trope about No OSHA compliance.

Like how the Death Star has no guardrails by bottomless pits.

The thing is Anakin fights by pure rage, and Obi-Wan always fought smart. The difference is guys like Dooku fought smart, but didn't know Anakin as well as Obi-Wan did.

It's also possible that Obi-Wan wasn't fighting to kill or "beat" Anakin. Much like how Vader probably wasn't fighting Luke to "win" in the traditional sense. Anakin just left him no choice in the end.

Styles make fights.  Just because Dooku beat Obi-Wan and Dooku got beaten by Anakin doesn't make it illogical to have Obi-Wan beat Anakin.  For one, Anakin was all over the place emotionally when they fought having just turned to the Dark Side.  Second, power alone doesn't make a great fighter.  There are tons of athletes that have superior God-given talent that still lose to smarter players/fighters/whatever.  Power alone is only part of the package.

I always like it when an illiterate attempts a wicked burn. It bolsters my faith in durp.

We aren't talking about who wins between Robo-Cop and Dooku, old boy, we're talking about Anakin now. I'd worry about derailing this thread, but it's already served its purpose.

He isn't an idiot because of who he might think wins a fake fight, he's an idiot because he doesn't understand basic storytelling. Its like being surprised the boat sank when watching Titanic.

I didn't change any aspect of his character to fit my argument. I'm just not talking about "kid Anakin the pod racer" or "crying emo bitch Anakin", I'm talking specifically about the "final showdown against Obi Wan Anakin." When he finally quits with the stupid melodramatic shit in the third act of the third movie and embraces the dark side and kicks it up a notch. That Anakin.

Who is this Fuckshoes fella and why does he sound like an autistic Dennis Miller?
