I would rename the company World Wrestling Entertainment.  Since the WWE says that they are done using the name, it should be open, right?

I don't get how A.J. Styles is considered a young guy. He's almost 33 and has been in a national promotion longer than John Cena.

Perception is reality. He was TNA World Champion at a time when TNA wasn't on the radar, and once the Angles of the world came in, he was second banana. So while he's a wily veteran in reality, in the eyes of a lot of folks, he's still a "young whippersnapper".

Anyone who has actually wrestled a match on Nitro cannot be considered a young up and comer.

I don't subscribe, but I've heard that Meltzer is now reporting the name change possibility.

didn't he hold the longest reign as TNA Champ after the "Angles of the world came in"?  I think anyone who watches TNA considers AJ Styles to be amongst the upper echelon of TNA veterans.  but still 33 is certainly not old in the world of professional wrestling.  not super young either, but a prime age for most stars who have been seen as at the top of the business.  how old was Austin when he first won the WWE title?

by the time tna aired on spike, he was feuding over the x title.  so for any fans that started watching at that point, he likely wouldn't have been seen as a world title contender.

he was the champ as recently as last year when he won it from sting in 09 and lost it to RVD.  why is this overlooked?

Because he was never presented as the focus of the company, kind of the way that Jack Swagger's reign was presented.

I'd say that he was up until Hogan and Bischoff came along and tried to steal all the spotlight along with the additions of Hardy and RVD.  Tenay and Tazz always mention he was the longest reigning world title holder when he is onscreen.  Plus he has one of the best entrances as far as pyrotechnics is concerned.  Is referred to as "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles, puts on great matches no matter who he's facing, is the leader of Fortune and always gets the biggest pop from the crowd.  So opinions may vary.

er...i'm not.  i'm giving a reason why he can be considered relatively young.  for most, he didn't become a world champ till after tna went on spike.

in any case, his world title run is overlooked because tna doesn't present him as a former champ.  they rarely refer to it.

So opinions may vary.

and you just answered your own question.

i watch tna from time to time and i don't hear tenay or tazz talking about his world title run (tho that may have changed since his injury...but whoopie...he's injured so they can't take advantage of it).

i think aj is the best guy in the company.  his promos are "ok", but he makes up for it in the ring.  they could easily build the company around him, but since he never did anything in wcw, wwe, or ecw, he's been relegated to little buddy.  they finally put him in an angle where he's the leader of the faction standing up to the man...and then they put him on the injured list...basically cutting his legs out from under him.

^ I was going to say something like this.

late 2009 PPV Main Events

No Surrender -    A.J. Styles defeated Kurt Angle (c), Matt Morgan, Sting, Hernandez
Bound For Golory (TNA's Wrestlemania) -    A.J. Styles (c) defeated Sting
Turning Point -    A.J. Styles (c) defeated Daniels and Samoa Joe
Final Resolution -    A.J. Styles (c) defeated Daniels
Genesis 2010 -    A.J. Styles (c) defeated Kurt Angle

I think a fair argument can be made that AJ took a back seat once Bischoff, Hogan, RVD, Hardy, et all came in. But in late 2009 he clearly was being pushed as a top guy

I may be wrong, but I think AJ's injury angle might be good in the long run, it will give him a mega-push once he returns after all this Sting/Anderson/RVD shit is done with and wouldn't be surprised if he is pushed all the way up to a world title program.  at least, thats what i hope for.

we'll see.  but i'm not hopeful.  my guess is (assuming they are still running this angle in a few weeks) he'll come back and turn on immortal to become just another face in the crowd again.

Supposedly the name change is a "when" now more than an "if", but we'll see.

Rumor: Dixie was not at the tapings, she was in LA for meetings with Spike. Bischoff was essentially being the boss at the tapings in her absence.

Take it for what you will but it is unusual for Dixie to miss TV tapings

She probably has a pain threshold.

It is not unusual, however, for most people to miss their TV show.
