What's your play style?
« on: October 10, 2012, 11:01:07 PM »
For class based games, with skill tress customization, how do you normally like to play it?

Ended up getting Borderlands 2 after all.  A friend in India hooked me up..  They only pay bargain bin prices for first day release games, and Steam makes it so easy to take advantage of this.  :D

So I was looking up classes, and thinking about my play style, and right now I'm trying to decide between a tank or dps based...  I love killing.. Everyone does.  But I also like not dying, and I normally die often.....  Basically, I guess in any rpg or class based game with a level system, I want to be Rambo, you know?  :D

The problem with borderlands, is it takes sooooo long to get the skills you want.  5 levels into one tier just to unlock the next..  So if I went with Salvador for his awesome Gunzerking, which sounds like it's right up my ally, I'd be level 20-30 before I can have fun with it...

i usually excel in the healer/support role where i focus my time on keeping allies alive through heal guns, medpacks, shields, turrets, etc.  i try to hook up with the good people on my team and stand behind them while they dish out the damage.

i'm playing a game now called super monday night combat, it's free to play from steam.  i enjoy it a lot, it has borrowed heavily from Team Fortress 2, but has also added an entire meta-game with a skill tree, leveling system, spendable in-game credits for performing various feats (multi-kill, assists, destroy turrets).  At first, it was rough because i was playing it like a standard FPS and going in rambo style.  that did not work out well, so now I treat it like the class-based shooter that it is and play a more team-oriented style.  it's super fun.  anybody who likes multiplayer PC shooters, with upgradeable, customizable characters should try it out.  i've put about 200 hours into it, and only spent $3.50 total.

I primarily tank and heal.  Playing League of Legends I thought I was finally moving away from it but it turns out I'm the best support player for my Ranked team and I do enjoy it  :laugh_mini:

I was one of the best tanks in WoW up till Cat when I finally fully disappeared from the WoW scene

I'm very unoriginal. I tend to be a jack of all trades, master of none. Which is ironic because I actually like being a team player. Go figure.

Oh and dual wield weapons.

Dual wield!   :drink_mini:

I know I shouldn't be dual wielding guns that draw off the same ammo pool, but dual wielding same type guns that set people on fire is just too damned cool..

I used to put two credits into those old gun games like Lethal Enforcers or Time Crisis so I could feel badass with two guns.

Depends on the game, my mood and my team.

Some times I lone wolf, sometimes I hang back in a support role.

Say, Mass Effect 3 multiplayer, on Bronze you can pretty easily take a level 10+ and basically sweep the map in the opposite direction my teammates are going.  On Silver, I keep to teams.

As for Borderlands 2, I went soldier and am focusing on buffing my turret, weapon accuracy, grenades and elemental effects for the eventual Slag shooting turret mega combo.

Would your friend in India be willing to gift me copies of Dishonored and XCOM on Steam?

Oh, it wasn't a gift.  I paid for it.  :D

Basically, he bought a copy, and I used his account on Ebay India to buy him another copy for 1000 rs, which is under 19 dollars with shipping.

But I'll ask him about it.  The trick, is sending money to India, since the Indian government basically banned them because of people using it as a way to avoid taxes..

Convert rupees to dollars, and that's about what I paid for Borderlands 2.

My friend said he's be willing to help, but we were talking, and here's the thing:

All my friend would do, is get the game and send you the activation key.  But, when I logged into my friends ebay account and bought him a copy for the key he gave to me, my friend emailed the seller and asked for the key for himself straight off, so we could begin gaming without waiting on the shipping..

Soooo..  why don't you try registering an account on India's ebay site, and emailing the seller yourself, and asking them if you buy their item, if they'd just email you the key without worrying about the shipping?  Even if you're stuck paying out money for shipping in the transaction for a physical media you're not getting, that's still only 18 and change for a 60 dollar game..  :D

And you can't really get taken advantage of, because Ebay has a money back policy if you're not satisfied.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing myself..
