finished watching raw this morning, and something about the Rock Concert really stuck out to me. do you remember the scene in 21 Jump Street (2012) when channing tatum walks back into school with his his backpack over one shoulder and calls that dude's music gay? that scene and the rock concert are the same thing. rocky needs to join the rest of the world in 2013.

though, when the promo got serious at the end it was good.

wrestling's attitude towards women is definitely in need of a change, but hitching your wagon to the "you shouldn't make fun of female bad guys" argument is a losing one. some of the attacks on vickie in the past have been unwarranted, but the one on monday made perfect sense in the context of the show. vickie's been being a real shit.

It's not like the joke was "You dumb bitch go make me a sammich if you can handle that". It was still within the context of the characters.

That's not to say WWE doesn't have a low treatment of women at times. The entire industry does, TNA being some of the worst offenders. But this particular segment, in its context, was calling out the arrogant, power hungry bitch out for being an arrogant, power hungry bitch. For people that do not get this, that is their problem and not WWE's in this particular case.

Also, in all of the sidetracking shenanigans we missed something huge.

FIT FINLAY WAS IN THE MAIN EVENT CLOSING SEGMENT OF RAW  :fr:

the point isn't that women are fragile angels who need to be protected and white knighted, and if that's what you see from the other side of your point of view, then what the fuck am I supposed to say that isn't some bullshit acquiescence to something I don't believe? If you really think straight men are a persecuted class and that I'm supposed to feel sorry for people who can find nothing else to make fun of on a woman than her looks (and I don't give a flying goddamn shit what the second verse of the song was, the lede is the important thing here), then holy shit, I have nothing else to say to you. Have fun in your bubble.

that's the thing. he wasn't making fun of a woman for her looks. he was making fun of people for their looks, in addition to the actual bad things they do. he did the same god damn thing to heyman and called him twinkie tits. in fact, the segment opened and closed with it.

The same people had a problem with that since they attributed OMG WOMEN FEATURES to making fun of Heyman...apparently calling a guy fat with bitch tits is degrading to women too.

i dont think that's what TH, myself, or anyone is saying.

and ftr, this whole argument didnt start because someone complained about what the rock said.  it started because someone preemptively attacked the would-be complainers....who in the past only complained that fun was made of vickie's weight...when she isnt fat.  and that wwe treats her as a fat blob and compare her to models.  which is completely unhealthy.

And my argument remains that if you are looking at professional wrestling as a way to shape your opinions on females and gender equity, or if you allow your children to watch wrestling and form their opinions of females and gender equity based on aforementioned watching of professional wrestling, you are doing life wrong and you need to go hop on the shuttle so you can suck cocks on the moon.

Then what is the point? You are openly admitting that you are ignoring half the sketch to claim that all Rock was doing was calling a woman ugly. This is utterly absurd.

my kids dont watch it.

my main point was about putting words in people's mouths.  lets at least be clear as to what the argument is.  im A-OK with making fun of a villain.  but sayin vickie is fat is just dumb for many reasons - one of those being it's not true.

The only fat jokes were aimed at Heyman. He didn't call Vickie fat. He just said that she looks horrible. Which when you factor in that it's Vickie's character to cake on makeup and dress like she's a 25 year old dancer...

you arent reading my posts.

prime came in and started calling out those who usually defect vicky from attacks.  well, we defend her from the fat jokes - that's it.

no one had called out the rock skit (that i saw) previous to this.

i dont have a problem with calling a bad guy out on their bs or calling her ugly (i guess), but suggesting she's fat is dumb.

if that didnt happen, then great.  but lets be aware of what the argument has always been.  not about making fun of a bad guy, but making fun of a chick's weight...especially when she's only overwieght when compared to the barbie dolls she stands next to.

i'm on board with that. There's plenty of real physical grossities that you can make fun of her for. like her chimpish face.

If we are still talking about the Rock schtick, then Vickie was not called fat. I agree that fat jokes at Vickie are silly because they are just not true. But making fun of her for being a power hungry cougar who tries to dress half her age is fair game.

you are literally ignoring my posts or you just aren't understanding what im saying.

no one said shit about rock.  suddenly prime says "to anyone that is upset about the Rock concert and what Rock said to Vickie, go fuck yourself. #GFY"

which there weren't any.

and the only problem some of us had were with the fat jokes.  that's it.

so i jumped in to clarify that we only have a problem with the fat jokes about vickie - i believe i only talked about cena's fat jokes.

and away we go....

I agree with you 100%, but keep in mind that wrestling in general is really stupid. Juicehead 1 - Hey you said I'm an asshole! To prove I'm not an asshole, I'm going to beat the living shit out of you! *fans cheer!*

You can also look at it as picking on Vickie for being fat because it's the easy way to insult a woman. It'd be like them making fun of Sheamus for being Irish. "I'm going to say your ethnicity and it will insult you."

You big Irish motherfucker! You're an asshole!

"I am big. And Irish! To prove that I'm not an asshole, I am about to kick you in the face, fella!" *crowd runs to t-shirt stand to buy Sheamus t-shirts*

When you come into the theater of the absurd with the intent to point out that it doesn't make sense, you're the one who isn't really grasping the context of your environment.

That's my argument.

Interesting take on CM Punk/Rock vs Cena/Rock.  Also the comments touch on The Rock Concert.

hmm, i recall both rock and cena giving each other "props" (in 2012).

but yeah, cena making a joke out of everything made it suck.

punk is doing the same thing as the rock - i hate you, but i respect you.  and i'm gonna kick your ass.

this works so much better than:

rock: i hate you, you're a fruity pebble.  you may be good, but i'm gonna beat you.
cena: lulz

You obviously don't read the internet. There were tons said about that segment. If there hadn't been anything said, I wouldn't have said to #GFY.

It comes across like both guys are saying their piece knowing they will get their hands on each other on the big day. Much better than Cena/Rock last year where they seemed to keep trying to one up each other.
