Marvel Heroes

https://marvelheroes.com/

supposed to be out in the spring.  i'm guessing late spring since march 21 is only 4 weeks away.

I want to buy the ultimate starter pack, but for $200 it's not really worth it to buy a whole bunch of characters who I will never use, like daredevil, ms. marvel, hawkeye, human torch, thing, nova, black widow.

i might use each of the avengers a few times just to try them out, but mainly i'm only interested in the Xmen.  That, and buying the ultimate pack only gets you the 24 characters that have already been announced.  i will still have to purchase my other favourites when they are released.

The exclusive costumes are the only things that are really screaming at me  :fr:   if i don't spend $200, i can't get spider-man symbiote costume, or wolverine weapon X training facility helmet costume

That list sounds pretty awesome to me, except for Ms. Marvel.

And possibly Nova.  Depends on if he's Richard Rider, or the new asshole.

No way I'd spend 200 dollars on a booster pack, though.

I think I'd better just spend $80 on 6 characters that I know I will use.  No way I'm gonna level up 24 different heroes on an MMO.

game is now live, and F2P.  I played the closed beta and leveled a few characters up to 10.  The controls take a bit of getting used to (for me, anyway).  The game is more like Diablo than WoW, but once you get used to it it's pretty fun.  The only shit thing is the movement is a bit awkward.  there is no jumping, which for a superhero game is pretty fuckin stupid if you ask me.

Anyway, worth the free download to check out, and you can always spend $ to get better heroes if you like it enough.  So far I have paid for:  Cable, Colossus, Jean Grey, Wolverine and Deadpool.  Will probably pick up Cyclops as well, and then hopefully in the future they release nightcrawler, iceman and gambit.

I've been looking at this but can't get an answer from anyone.  Is it an actual MMO or is it a dungeon crawl like Diable and the MMO aspect is implemented like Diablo 3?

i've never played a diablo game, but it is more dungeon-y than not.  there are open world areas, with portals to instances where all the missions are played out.  in that regard, it's similar to City of Heroes, but the movement is way different.  there is no WASD movement, you use mouse + left click to move your character, but you also use left click on enemies to use your basic attack.  took me a while to get used to.  The RPG elements seem pretty standard:  when you level up you spend power points to either improve existing powers, or unlock new ones.  There is gear that boosts stats but has no effect on appearances.  You have to pay for alternate costumes (or can get them as drops, i believe)

I didn't play too far into the Beta because I knew that once the full game came out, all progress and gear collected was going to be wiped and i'd start from scratch.  mostly i just wanted to fart around with some of the other characters to get a feel for the different hero classes.  ranged heroes are way easier to play, but hulk and wolverine are both pretty fun.  deadpool is more of a mixed class...he's got range pistols and also melee attacks with the swords, so he's quite versatile

Ok so it's a Dungeon Crawl like Diablo and being called an MMO in the same way Diablo 3 was an MMO.   You can play through the whole game alone or team up with friends if you want.

I guess I should try it for myself, but BB kind of makes it sound like I'd be better putting my time elsewhere..

One of the reasons I don't play many MMO's anymore, is because almost every single one is less fun then to play single, then a dedicated single player game..  At least for me, since I "hate" grinding and my attention span amounts to about 2 hours, max..
