So, they do a ridiculous title switch so Rocky can go on a media tour to promote his latest bomb and mention Wrestlemania while carrying around the WWE title. Guess what? He didn't have the title nor did he mention Wrestlemania.

This is so TNA 2007-2011.

I thought the whole point of putting the belt on Rock was because he was going to be on a media blitz in which he could walk around on TV, like Leno, with the belt over his shoulder and ring up defending it at Wrestlemania thus getting free publicity

he's on those shows for GI Joe, not WWE. why would GI Joe send him on these shows with a prop designed to get people to talk about things besides GI Joe?

Yes, the point of giving Rock the belt was to have him wear it on his media appearances for GI Joe. This was stated as much as something can be that didn't come from Vince saying it on RAW. This is a big deal and I'd be surprised if Punk didn't make a comment on it. Then again, when does he ever shut the fuck up?

I know why GI Joe wouldn't want him to do it, but that shitty movie, which was pushed back for 9 months because it was so terrible is probably a smaller source of income than WWE. Needless to say, less long term as well.

I think it's The Rock that's the asshole. Every other wrestler that's appeared on media blitz has mentioned the WWE or an upcoming PPV. But The Rock doesn't because he's Special.

Even if it was Rock choosing not to it still makes Vince out to look like an asshole for deciding to put the belt on someone for promotional purposes only and then they don't happen whether by his decision or not.

Why are we all saying/assuming Rock was just given the title only for promotional purposes? The guy is up there with the G.O.A.T - if he's free and wants to be part of the WWE, I'd have no problem putting the belt on him.

I think you're missing the point Edge was trying to make. Or heck maybe I am.

It sounded like Edge figured Rock would come out with the title and while talking about GI Joe, say that he's defending the title at WM against John Cena. None of which happened, he only talked about GI Joe. And it was "TNA of them (WWE)" to put their title on a guy to generate publicity, then when he goes on publicity tours, doesn't carry the title or mention the company. Like Hogna did for his book tour. He talked the whole time about his book, but not about TNA.

What casual fan watching Jay Leno, who had no idea The Rock was wrestling again even though he came back in 2011, is seriously going to cave and spend $60 to $70 to purchase WrestleMania because they saw The Rock talking about it on The Tonight Show?

Who is going to order a PPV because Punk or Miz were on a late night show? I don't know, but it's part of a promotional tour that everyone does and they talk about the WWE and bring their championship belts with them. I don't think it would've added any buys if he promoted WWE and had the belt, but according to a bunch of websites and even common sense, that was the plan.

It's a moot point anyway because everyone knows The Rock doesn't give a fuck about WWE and Vince is a gullible asshole, I just find it amusing that one of the main reasons they did a title switch didn't happen because Rocky wanted to talk about his next movie to gross $30 Million.

FWIW, The Rock has appeared at GI Joe events with the belt. Now granted this event was probably the most viewed one, but it's not like he has completely ignored WWE and/or the belt on his publicity tours.

Given the Rock is there on Paramount's dime to promote their product, I am sure that they (and Leno) has a lot more control of the topics discussed than either The Rock or Vince.

I thought the Rock was in another one and this was the third, weird. Maybe that's the push back you were referring to. I didn't hate the first, it was what it was. I think this one will do ok considering the promotion level.
