What he does or is like outside the ring has no bearing on anything, except when he's buying houses for people.  Then it matters.  Big time.

I was using the house buying thing as a point to illustrate to someone (FATSEXY) who seems to not be able to separate the art from the artist that CM Punk is indeed capable of being a good human being on occasion. Perhaps he wasn't aware of that and if the artists he likes have to pass some sort of Mickey Mouse morality test, that may have been enough to tip him in the right direction. But I doubt it. I personally don't give a shit if Punk is an asshole in real life.

I'm not going to argue why someone should or shouldn't hate someone, that's stupid. If FATSEXY wants to hate Punk he's more than welcome to, I just think he has silly reasons, like  his moves not being fluid or whatever. Pretty sure FATSEXY is on Cena's cock 24/7 and Cena isn't exactly the most technically gifted rassler in the world, but because he has bulging veiny muscles that give FATSEXY a FATCHUBBY Cena gets a pass in FATSEXY's book. I guess FATSEXY gets off so much on the make-a-wish stuff that Cena does in "real life" that he desperately wishes that Punk did the same thing so that he can like him better as a rassler on his TV set.

Hogan...still hate him for Starrcade 97, and a ton of other things in hindsight. I also hate Cena. Everything I've read about Cena hate lately until this spun into something like "I get it Cena sucks enough already" but yeah...he's just as annoying now as when he first became annoying.

A guy on another board has the moment that the fans turned on John Cena down to the exact show.  His deconstruction of it is pretty remarkable.  I'll have to dig it up.

The poster's name is tamalie from MN and here was his first post on the crowd turning on Cena.  Interesting...

Quote
July 11, 2005

Raw that night was at the Meadowlands. John Cena had his edge dulled and had become, no other way to put it, less cool since early 2005, but had maintained mass support regardless. That night the New York/New Jersey fans viciously, and somewhat surprisingly at the time, turned on Cena. He and the WWE were caught badly off guard. In the following month or two, when the hate for Cena among mostly adult males caught on but time still existed to nip things in the bud, the WWE catastrophically botched its handling of Cena and made things worse. Instead of going with the flow by turning Cena heel or giving him his edge back as a babyface, it took to force feeding him to the fans and using some senseless gimmicks (having Jericho and Angle mock the fans and put Angle with Daivari) instead of actually addressing the problem. By Labor Day it was too late. The love/hate thing with Cena had been institutionalized. The WWE had a lead babyface that 50% of the fans hated which, for all the tickets and merchandise Cena has sold to the kids and ladies who cheer him, has probably been bad for business in the long run.

What's interesting to me is that right now today I cringe when Cena kind of touches on his old rapper gimmick, but at the time he was still running with it that's what we initially liked about him.  They just kind of quietly dropped it and that's when the grown folks started to turn on Cena.

Speaking of being tired of Cena did anybody else cringe during MitB when he came out and near the end of his entrance pulled out the towel to show off his new merch?  All I could think was what a fucking shill he was.

Not that this matters, but he's been using the towel as part of his entrance for a little while now.  I don't really have a problem with that aspect of it.

Whatever he lacks in fluid movement of certain maneuvers in the ring he makes up for with charisma and good 'ol fashion storytelling. It's hard to find a CM Punk match that isn't at least good, and there are plenty of great ones.

Who cares if he's an asshole in real life?  Not to his friends he's not. He bought Joey Nitro a fucking house when Joey Nitro was down on his luck. His on screen character is one of the all time greats.

Sheeeeeeeit. You suck at this game.

Oh, I'm sorry that I don't like a pro wrestler that you like, Hoss. Why don't you and me settle this in a special Go Fuck Yourself Match, where the winner has to go fuck himself? Deal? I forfeit. Gofuckyaself.

Lots of scumbags take care of their friends, Torgo. Hitler was sweet to his dog, guess that makes him a great guy.

While we are here, isn't it time The Internet apologized to Kevin Nash and FATSEXY (and VKM)? We've been saying all along that the heavyweight title belongs on a big guy, and hot damn if every midget You People have loved has not turned into an absolute train wreck when they were given the ball.

If he's a saint or a shithead I still don't give a shit about seeing him have a match.

Cena may not know how to do a hurricanrana but he's a technically sound wrestler. He performs his moves well, makes few mistakes, works the crowd well, and tells a story in the ring. He doesnt get carried and actually makes his opponent look good.

People may be sick of him, but no one should have any issues with what he does bell to bell.

Wow are we talking about Cena as in John Cena? Even if that were true, then logically there are still a hundred billion better annoying and/or boring wrestlers who could carry a broomstick to a good match if they had to.

The problem with John Cena is really indictive of a problem with the WWE. John Cena himself is a great wrestler and there's nothing wrong with him whatsoever.

To use a video game analogy, Lightning in Final Fantasy XIII has been called "the John Cena of video game characters." There's nothing with her character or her story arc, it's just overall attitude and personality of her character rubbed a lot of die-hard JRPG fans the wrong way.

its actually not a problem.  cena has plenty of fans.  even with his detractors, he's still probably the most popular wrestler today (sans rock and maybe bryan).

so the wwe is right to keep putting the spotlight on him.

Well, the problem then becomes is the WWE right because no one is as good as John Cena currently or he's been there long enough that his popularity is secondary?

if he sells merch and is one of (if not the) most popular wrestlers, then they should put him on top.  so what we perceive as a problem because we are bored with him, their numbers prove otherwise for them.

long term, they definitely need to bring along more guys cause eventually cena will retire.

Personally I wonder how much more money they would make with a good Cena heel turn, like Hogan in 96.

yeah, i understand why they dont want to risk it, but i really think that they could use heel cena to push one or maybe even two guys to that next level of "super-stardom".  like reigns or ambrose or both.

As an addendum:

I don't really like Jericho much either. I recognize that he has good matches but I don't really feel anything when I watch him. He feels like he's acting thru his moves, not doing them. If that makes any sense. Same feeling I got from Morrison. Guess I can't verbalize it.

And, as much as I love him, I can admit that Punk is very average in the ring. He can talk his balls off and is a good storyteller in the ring. His moves are weak and don't look very good. His kicks are not convincing when he's not facing 150lb ROH guys.

And I hate anybody who can't throw a good working punch. Fucking elbows and palm strikes are for pussies.

Shout out to guys who could punch. Bret Hart, Harley Race, Taker, Bossman.....

Jericho isn't terrible, but he's completely overrated in just about every sense.  Decent comedy as a face, solid in his run as a serious heel but nowhere near as great as many seem to suggest imho.
