Hulk Hogan, having recently been hand-picked by Vince McMahon to be the face of the company (something that would again become a storyline thirty years later), turned face three weeks prior, and then in-storyline filled in for Bob Backlund and defeated the Iron Shiek to win what would be the first of his twelve championship reigns (WWF/E+WCW combined).
