Bob Iger announced in a press conference some major Star Wars news. Not only do we have a title for the first spinoff film, but we have a release date for Episode VIII. This means the next three Star Wars films are now already accounted for.
The first stand-alone spinoff film will be titled Rogue One and will be released in December 2016, roughly one year after Episode VII. Rumors have surfaced that lead star Felicity Jones will be playing an adult version of Sabine Wren, who fans are currently enjoying in the animated series Rebels. However, none of those rumors were verified during Iger’s announcement. Gareth Edwards (2014’s Godzilla) is tapped to direct.
The other piece of news is Episode VIII will be released on May 26, 2017, exactly one day after the 40th anniversary of the original film. Rian Johnson as been confirmed to be the director for the film, confirming long running rumors.
So there you have it, fans. Star Wars movies are mapped out through 2017. Get in line now.
