TNA News: TV industry coverage of "Impact Wrestling" campaign, executive says how long re-branding has been in the works

TNA's "Impact Wrestling" marketing campaign has picked up mainstream coverage by TV industry publication Multichannel News, which obtained quotes from TNA marketing officer Al Ovadia.

Ovadia said TNA will launch "several 30-second on-air and web spots" featuring TNA stars, like Ric Flair, discussing wrestling's impact on them. Although not mentioned in Multichannel's report, these are the spots that have already begun airing in local markets during commercial breaks on WWE programming.

Ovadia added that TNA's re-branding has been in the works for one year. Ovadia discussed what has been apparent that TNA decided to launch the re-branding in response to WWE's "New WWE" initiative.

The timeline matches up since TNA has had internal discussions dating back to last year about how to re-brand the company and whether to drop "TNA" from the name of the company completely.

Multichannel's report includes information from TNA and Spike TV's press release on Monday announcing the re-branding, which includes the misleading ratings information that Impact's ratings are up 9 percent through Q1 2011 compared to the same period in 2010. It does not account for Impact moving to Monday nights during Q1 2010, where TNA failed to draw above a 1.0 rating.

I hope they really do believe that "wrestling matters"... But running storylines about Hogan and Dixie in a power struggle, or Jeff Jarrett marrying Kurt Angle's ex wife... Or Winter having some kind of witch control.... these things don't exactly scream "wrestling matters".......they are going to have to prove it. If they do, I'll be thrilled, because like I've said before, they do in fact have a bunch of dudes on that roster that can go... But as long as Hogna, Bishoff, and Russo are around, I'll call bullshit.

Dunno. But if they want to truly separate the X-Division, giving them a six-sided ring as an exclusive would be a good way to start.

How would that work for normal shows? Would they have two rings set up at once?

Again, dunno. But I could see Xplosion being turned into an all X-Division show with Impact being everybody else.

i don't see how they could switch rings during a show that quickly. from the looks of that poster, it sounds like all matches on the Destination X PPV will be in a 6 sided ring. that's cool.

Which could also mean an X-Division centric PPV. Again, just an idea.
