Smackdown MVP spoiler
« on: November 04, 2010, 07:25:18 AM »

He wins a match with one of his awesome yakuza kicks instead of any of the stupid-looking finishers he's been stuck with over the years.

This makes me happy.

At least it's nice to know there's one other MVP fan here.

I think he's a great talker. He used to be a good wrestler, but sometime last year, he just started moving like he was walking pudding all the time.

He wrestles in correlation to his push. For a while this was a good thing, now it's a bad thing.

MVP was awesome back when he was wrestling Chris Benoit, Rey and Finley. Hell, I need to look up that one beat the clock match where he and Finley just mat wrestled for pretty much the whole stretch.

Then at some point they turned him face and de-pushed him and he became rather uninteresting in the ring.

Supposedly he's turning heel soon, though. He needs that, a push and absolutely no leapy, contrived finishers.

I agree...he's much better as a heel.

I feel as tho his ship has sailed.

He's in his late 30s/early 40s. The ship was right to sail last year, but instead of putting him over, they had him play warm-up act for the doughy son of the chairman who can't throw a credible punch.

His heel turn can't come soon enough! I still think he's great and he clearly loves his Japanese wrestling, and hell, he popped when I suggested a tag team name for he and I, so here's to hoping he IS getting a heel turn and push asap. Good in-ring, good on the mic when he's a cocky dick heel, I'm looking forward to it.

I'll say it again, though: The man needs to stick to awesome Yakuza kick variations for finishes. I'm glad he's dropped the Overdrive (even if he made that stupid move look better than most performers have) but the leapy reverse STO thing is beneath him and falls into the same general category of finishers no man should be forced to use. Drive-by kick please.

I don't subscribe to the "heel turn makes everyone better" mindset.  MVP could've been a very good face character that people liked.

WWE just decided to half-ass it, like they do with most things.

He cuts great face promos, maybe the best in the company. I agree. The problem here though isn't that the WWE half-assed it. MVP had a lot of momentum coming out of busting out of his losing streak. The point where the push failed was when he was used as a pawn to get over Shane McMuffintop rather than to get himself over. Much like they would fail to capitalize on Mark Henry a few months later, they failed to give MVP any kind of momentum after the strong promo to kick that RAW off and the even stronger match he had with Orton on that card.

I think MVP needs to go to Japan and wrestle for AJPW or NJPW.

Then he can team with Giant Bernard for a tag title run and have classics~! with Mutoh or Nagata

MVP's a weird deal for me.  He's had some good matches and cuts a solid promo, but the whole package just doesn't do it for me.  I don't know if it's the character, or his personality, but I find him utterly boring and channel changing.

Sounds good, but IIRC he can't even visit japan due to his criminal history.

Watching Smacksdowns now. MVP has new music.

!

You could clap along to it like We Will Rock You. It'd be a pretty good entrance if people started doing that.

It was his drive by kick, doesn't look like he's using it as his finish as he went for the playmaker earlier in the match.

Sad panda.  :'(
