Considered one of the most technically sound NWA Champions. Defeated Harley Race and Giant Baba for his title reigns. Also held and extensive number of tag titles with brother Gerald. Retired from the ring in 1984 when Georgia Championship Wrestling was sold to the World Wrestling Federation.

Had success in both the territories and in the national boom period for WWF. Arguably the #2 fan favorite behind Hulk Hogan in the early Hulkamania days. Defeated The Ultimate Warrior for his only World Title. Also held multiple regional and independent titles both as a singles and in various tag teams.
