Considered one of the most technically sound NWA Champions. Defeated Harley Race and Giant Baba for his title reigns. Also held and extensive number of tag titles with brother Gerald. Retired from the ring in 1984 when Georgia Championship Wrestling was sold to the World Wrestling Federation.

Held the ROH Title for a record 21 months. Defeated Kurt Angle for the TNA title to become the third ever Triple Crown champion. Held the TNA title for over 6 months. Currently competes in NXT
