Billy Corgan reported buys NWA
« on: May 02, 2017, 02:16:09 PM »
According to the sheets.

He's buying a company that was licensing only without a TV contract.  It's almost like starting over.  Did he lose a bet or take a dare?

Is there a way to revive the Old NWA method of one big Company governing others at this point?  Would anyone want to see that?

No idea what Billy has in mind here, but in general I think Tharpe's idea of licensing the name makes a lot more sense than trying to do the member promotion deal like they had in the territorial days.

Hearing Corgan on Talk Is Jericho talking about wrestling was one of the most surreal podcasts I've heard. It may have been more weird than when Broken Matt was a guest.

The real NWA imo died in the 1990s when the atlanta part of it changed to WCW. I doubt the name has any real drawing power at this point.

Does he now own that old belt?

He owns the right to the design of the belt and whichever one they are using now, I don't know if Tharpe/Corgan still have one of the old copies of it though.  I think the one Flair had is in Triple H's possession for example.

Too much looking back. If he wants to invest in something, don't put the money into a dying brand like TNA or a dead brand like the NWA. Start something new. Do something new. Make people stand up and take notice and be excited about an alternative.

How is he not broke? This guy has spent more money on hopeless projects than anybody.

As close as it is to being final, it's also extremely close to falling apart due to ownerships of various trademarks and what not
