it was ok for an opening episode. I just can not get into the chuck death thing at all but at least jimmy vs chuck saga is over. I remember the mabel story and at the end of the story if memory serves mabel is ok so I thought that was going to be a metaphor for chuck. I was so hoping in the opening scene in the gene story it was going to be pinkman driving. Whoever was driving that cab had to know who "Gene" is just by the way the driver was acting. i guess we might find out in the season 5 opening lol. I have no idea the point in showing that new guy near the end of the episode other than to make the audience think it was a hank cameo but I do not remember hank ever having a kid in breaking bad so I knew it was not hank. Also screw amc for trying to make me sit thru lodge49 just to see previews for upcoming episodes. No fn thank you.

The problem with the show, is that Jimmy is probably the least interesting character in the cast. Chuck was more interesting. Kim is more interesting. Gus is more interesting. Nacho is more interesting. Mike consistently steals the show with whatever he's up to each week (and he did so against last night).
The show is still a critical darling, but I think its dirty secret is that the spinoff should've been about Mike and his post-police career. Saul being Saul in Breaking Bad was far more entertaining than watching Jimmy become Saul in the years pre-BB.

I found Jimmy highly entertaining in season 1 when he was struggling for business hiring skate boarders to fall in front of cars to try and drum up business. Or in season 2 when he made that commerical for that law firm with the old people. But sad mournful jimmy to me is just not entertaining tv. I never found anything about chuck interesting and he was more painful to watch than skylar was on breaking bad. Chuck only existed on this show to be a foil to jimmy.  I am glad his storyline is over but I must say if you do enjoy michael mckean there was an old hbo show called dream on (prob hard to find) but in season 2 i think he shows up and he was such a delightful ass hole on that show (but in a fun smarmy way).

I do think a better name for the series is before breaking bad as you see other things in the breaking bad universe before breaking bad that have absolutely nothing to do with saul aka jimmy mcgill at all. Gus shows up in season 3. I do think the series makes better for a binge watch than waiting 1 week to watch a new episode. Then again you can say that about prob any series ever.

I loved the opening from the past episode. IT was fun to finally see a breaking bad scene we did not see during breaking bad on better call saul. (Not counting the jimmy cinnabon scenes that I used to think took place after walt died on breaking bad but now I think exist during the timeframe of walt still being alive while he was away in the cabin debating his next move.)

I know this is an old topic but I just watched through all of Season 4 finally now that it's on Netflix.  As one of you stated this show is definetely better to binge.  I don't think I'd have kept up with this season on a weekly basis.  It felt less engaging and interesting than the previous 3.  I feel part of the problem is it is trying to split to little time between to many storylines.  You have the Jimmy story, the Mike story, the Gus story, the Kim story, and now the Nacho/Salamanca story.  That's a lot of different plots to keep up with in an hour episode.

Nacho was also one of my favorite characters and was loving what was going on at the start of this season but it just disappears.  He's hardly in the show after the first few episodes other than to just stand there and make faces.

Jimmy is easily the least interesting in this season as somebody said.  Kim is getting annoying as well.  How is she still putting up with his bullshit?   Though the end of the season dropped hints she is about done.

Mike, as usual, is the best part.  I love how he just does what he wants for the most part no matter what anyone, including Gus, say.
