Werewolf (1987-88)
« on: September 04, 2010, 02:19:02 AM »
Figured I'd try this again - posted this the night before the old board died.

Anyway, this was one of my iconic childhood TV series. Had a 29-episode run as one of the launch shows of the Fox network. John J. York is Eric Cord, who is attacked by his werewolf roommate one night and becomes cursed himself. The only cure is to hunt down and kill the first werewolf of the bloodline - that being Janos Skorzeny (Chuck Connors). But trailing Eric is a bounty hunter named Alamo Joe Rogan (Lance LeGault).

Looking back, this is pretty mediocre TV. But Connors is an amazing villain, and Rick Baker (American Werewolf in London) does the werewolf effects, which aren't as elaborate as 'AWiL' but still hold up, even today.

A couple of scenes from the Pilot episode:

Eric's roommate Ted has begged to be tied to a chair ahead of his unholy transformation, and a skeptical Eric obliges.

Eric meets Janos Skorzeny for the first time.

And here, Skorzeny meets fellow captain Mueller late at night for a brief tete-a-tete (starts at about 5:35)

The Rifleman was king of the werewolves?

Supposedly, but we find out later on, towards the end of the show's run, that an even older werewolf predated Connor's character.

This was on Fox at the beginning of the network before we had in in our area. I wanted to see it, but no go. Is it out on DVD?

No. They had planned to release the series on DVD several months ago, but there was some music they couldn't get licensed, so it was scrapped.

If you search "Werewolf 1987 TV series," there's a guy who has all the episodes uploaded. As far as I know, that's the only place to get them.
