WWE looking to ink deal for PPV coverage
« on: February 21, 2020, 03:08:54 PM »
Various sites are saying WM 36 could go to PPV access and PPV rates. They are reportedly in talks with ESPN and this could affect WM 36.

I worry if this happens, could it cause more harm through ratings and attendance losses than the profits they might gain.  I will not buy a WWE PPV. I will cancel WWE Network.  I am sure others feel the same.

One of the big appeals to The Network is the access to PPVs. I get that Mania is Mania, but this is likely not going to be just Mania.
I think the reason ESPN is being mentioned is because the deal that they have with UFC paid UFC guaranteed money on par with what the PPVs buys were generating. The problem with that is there's no way to scale how many buys WWE would be getting on PPV without the Network. Aside from Mania. WWE PPV buys were plummeting even before the Network was available. They have trouble getting a million people to pay $10 now. What makes them think they'll get people to pay $80 for Mania? Remember a few years back when they openly insulted their fans for NOT buying the Network and continuing to watch on PPV?

This will spell the end of my Network subscription if it happens.
