How is everybody doing?
« on: July 22, 2020, 03:05:36 PM »
Hey everyone, just thought maybe I'd do a check in.

How is everybody doing through this whole COVID-19 business? Not that we're perfect up here, but here in Winnipeg until this week we had a 13-day stretch with no new cases. I see all the news bits coming out of the US with record numbers of cases. Is everyone ok?

How's work/life as well? I'm fortunate enough that I get to continue on at my job, just working permanently at home - I *might* physically go back into the office in Q1 2021 but it looks like I'm here for the long haul. My dog is happy.

I hope all your families are doing well.

Everyone ok?

Drained and tired all the time.  Been able to work the whole time as my industry wasn't shut down by COVID-19 and I was already working from home so that didn't do much to me.  Just dealing with all the idiots who don't believe/understand what's going on.  Unfortunately I live with and work with a lot of them so I never get a break from it :sad_mini:

Been in the office, on full salary, every single day (we're considered an essential business and getting one of those PPP loans). Show business basically shut down, but slowly coming back.
Not sure how to feel about people flouting mask protocols. Partly annoyed they're trying to kill all of us, but also feeling every new infection brings us that much closer to herd immunity.

Last I heard the studies are saying herd immunity won't be possible.  Apparently according to studies in Spain the human body doesn't even retain anitbodies as those previously infected and tested for anti-bodies no longer had them after a follow up test 2-3 weeks later  :dash_mini:

I guess we'll find out. Lots of conflicting information being bandied about - the reporting has been pretty unreliable. One question I'd have - if the human body can't retain anti-bodies from a previous infection, what does that portend for an effective vaccine?

That's what I've been wondering myself.  I do have knowledge of some people getting COVID-19, recovering, and then ending up getting it again.  It's really looking more and more like this shit is here to stay til the US either wipes itself out or finally pulls it's head out of it's ass and treat this like we should have been from the start

Things have settled in for me and my family, mostly.

Working from home.  Finally getting used to it.  Don’t much like it though and hope things are back closer to normal within the next 12 months.

Working from home. Will be until 2021 at least. IT's fine. We're savinng money not going out and not doing things. I got a big tv and Disney plus when this all happened.

Over here:

Pubs except ones serving food are all shut

Schools are shut

outdoor gatherings of 200+ are banned

Masks are widely worn indoors, its going to be mandatory from next Saturday.

2 metre social distancing everywhere.

We had 45 infections yesterday (population 7m), and people are worried it's going to go up.

I moved to Arizona back in the spring.  Ironically, my company paid to move me to help lead a new office we just recently opened up ... which I have since never set foot into, and it looks like I may not until at least 2021.  On the plus side, moving into a new home gave me plenty of things to do indoors while being on lockdown.  However, that distraction is essentially over at this point as we are very settled in now.  Just getting used to working from home full time.  I'm with Dan that I don't particularly care for it.  I do miss the office, as odd as that sounds.  However, some of that is missing the old office environment since I don't even have experience in this new one yet.  If I eventually go in and all I do is sit on calls back to Illinois, then working from home is definitely preferred.

On the plus side, my wife and I continue to be healthy as have our families.
