Andrew Luck Staying in School
« on: January 06, 2011, 03:38:15 PM »
He says he wants to finish his degree. I can believe that, but I can also believe the potential lockout might have something to do with it. That being said, I think this makes Stanford the prohibitive favorite to win it all in 2011.

They'll be tough with him throwing darts back there.  I don't know what the CFB landscape will look like next year so I'll hold off on naming favorites.

They'll have challenges within the conference. I mean, Oregon will just reload (and I believe LaMichael James is coming back too), USC will be game to play spoiler (although then again, lol Kiffin), and who knows how good Utah, Oregon State, Cal, UCLA and even Arizona will be next year. Still, I think if they return Luck and Jim Harbaugh as coach, they'll be among the favorites after going 12-1 this past season.

I agree, but that's a lot of "ifs" this far out is all I'm saying.  Plus you don't know what big name juniors may still declare for the Draft at this point.

Ingram's going to declare if you believe Barry Sanders, Jr.

Yeah, I saw that last night.  We'll see.  Ingram leaving won't cripple us.  We're pretty solid at that position.

That's very true. Richardson is awesome. Although again, how badly could Ingram hurt his standing by staying in school in case of a lockout? That's going to change a lot of things and make coming out early a gamble.

Dareus from BAMA is coming out too which isn't surprising either.  He was a dominant force on that D-line.

Ryan Mallett from Arkansas would like to throw back-breaking picks at the next level as well.  Jay Cutler 2.0.

So much depends on whether Harbaugh comes back, though.  I can't see Stanford winning a NC with a first-year head coach that is unlikely to be an elite one.

I think Luck coming back is a big indicator for Harbaugh to come back as well.

That would be the conventional wisdom, but if that was the case that I'm not sure Harbaugh would be actively talking to NFL teams.

Uh yeah, I'm a jackass.

Harbaugh's going to the Niners. 5 years, $25M. I guess unless Stanford lands another excellent coach, this knocks them back into the fray.

Well, with the Niners, he can continue his annual tradition of dick-smacking a Pete Carroll team around.

And there's nothing wrong with that at all!  :laugh_mini:

Assume the corpse of Bill Walsh isn't available?

I heard he's the favorite to replace Harbaugh at Stanford.

Hey Sparano, no hard feelings about publicly trying to get another coach, right?

Walsh's corpse would be better than bringing back Walt Harris or Ty Willingham.
