Where Would You Go?
« on: January 26, 2011, 01:41:17 AM »
If you could visit anywhere in the world, under the assurance that you would face only a minimal (or no practical) risk of coming to harm while there, Where Would You Go?

I think I'd like to visit North Korea.

Also Bryce if you go to Ireland go to the good bit: Northern Ireland, where you can see the Giant's Causeway.

Somewhere where they have good beer. So, England, Ireland, Canada, Mexico, Belgium, Scotland, Germany or the Czech Republic. Also, Italy because I have roots there.

Minimal risk? So I could punch Kim Jhong Il in the face and get away with it?

Seriously though, I've always wanted to see a wrestling show in the Tokyo Dome. So that would probably be my pick.

Tecate, Dos Equis, Modelo and even Corona are all good. Plus, if their mainstream stuff is good, then they probably have other nice beers that we haven't tried yet as well.

he drinks DOS EQUIS!!!

and why does he tell you to stay thirsty??  if you drink the beer, how can you still be thirsty...unless it's a shitty beer that doesn't quench your thirst...

Heaven.  So I can see my grandpas and grandmas and my kitties;

or Australia.  Always wanted to shoot an abbo;

or seriously though probably Germany and the Netherlands to check out my roots and smoke some kind herb.

Though, if I was single, I'd deffo spend a week in London with Padje and Linus tracking down LB to give him a good mega-wedgie with irish stout shower in the middle of Picadilly.

I've mentioned this before, but I really have just about zero ideas about my roots beyond where my grandparents were born and/or raised.  I have no idea what our ancestry is at all.

I don't think it makes any difference. Bloom where you're planted. I'm above notions of nationhood or tying identity to geography. I'm above most things.

I live in a tree.

If we're talking places with some form of inherent danger, I wouldn't mind checking out the Middle East, seeing Egypt, Saudi Arabia. I also wouldn't mind going on a grand tour of Western Europe, Italy, Greece, Portugal, Spain, etc.

I was just as in the dark up until a few years back when my mom started dinking around on ancestry.com.  From what I gather, she started with the names of those ancestors she had and worked backwards from there.  From there, she and my dad went on trips to New York, Germany and the Netherlands.  Local tax records and birth/death announcements are the best way to go in the US, and apparently, when you trace back to the Old Country, you end up in small churches that have amazingly detailed histories of the people in their communities.

It's definitely interesting stuff to find out, if you have the time.

Portugal and Spain.

My mother emigrated here from Portugal(the Azores actually) when she was 16.  I went to Portugal and Spain on a school trip in high school, and I'd love to go back and do it on my own terms.  Maybe even stay in Portugal for an extended period of time.

I'd go to the UK.  I think it'd be fun to spend a couple of weeks kayaking the rivers.  The Tough Guy competition also looks fun.  Plus seeing London.

i wouldn't go so far as to call any mexican beer good, they're ok.  hell red stripe is better than most mexican beers, but i wouldn't go to jamaica on account of their quality of beer.

same goes for canada, why would you want to book a vacation based on drinking molson?
