Pretty sure that "nich" is considered a proper American English pronunciation (though that, in itself, might be oxymoronic).

"Neesh" makes you sound like a pretentious fop, though I would also argue we need more such people.

I am quite pretentious, especially when it comes to language (lazy internet message board posting habits aside).

I also like to pronounce aunt as "ont" instead of "ant"

I also like to correct my friends when they say stupid shit like "irregardless" or "supposably"

yep, I am that guy

Well, however pretentious and fop-ish you really are, on the last point, you're simply doing your friends (and the world) a service. "Irregardless" and "supposably" are both horseshit fake words.

really?

If you go to a restaurant and want a quiche, do you ask for "kwitch?"

Real men ask for bacon and egg pie.

Had a first today at the gym - a lady complained to my trainer, during our PT session, that I was sweating too much.

Probably not used to seeing anyone work up a sweat, based on the gyms around here.  Most people treat it like a social coffee shop alternative.

Was she fat?

I think so. I basically ghosted her, so I didn't really get a good look at her.

People praising the grenade scene frok taken 2.

No, it was NOT smart!  Yeah, I get using the sound of the explosion through the cell phone to calculate distance against the sound outside, but if someone's randomly throwing grenades around, it shouldn't attract zero attention from people, let alone from law enforcement, even in Turkey.

People that take a political argument about statistics, and browbeat someone for how they live their personal life.

You have three kids:  "YOU'RE ENVIRONMENTALLY IRRESPONSIBLE! "

Yes, this is not made up.

Or the old gun argument about being more likely to hurt someone then defend someone.

Or even the types that say you're crazy for worrying about being carjacked/mugged in a nice area, cause stats.

Stats are generally good for policy talk, maybe,  but it's not supposed to be a roadmap on how to live.

"Fairness".

A few towns in CT get accused of ballot stacking or leading voters, and other shenanigans.  The state responds by making rules all towns must follow, like forbidding any pollster from being inside an imaginary circle near the boxes, or even so much as LOOKING at the ballots.  So you end up getting situations where seniors get flustered, and pollsters are limited in how they can help thanks to anti shenanigan rules designed in response to a few bad towns.

That's stupid.  I understand why they do it, to avoid favoritism or somd other dumb accusation, but punishing everybody for the actions of one is bad policy, and patently unfair to everybody else.

I agree with the larger complain, fairness is a myth - and anyone over the age of 10 who complains "it's not fair" needs a good bitch slap

The tobacco and weed double standard.

If weed was always as legal and easy to come by as nicotine, I wonder if the same people calling for legalization would instead be demonizing the habit, as they do tobacco smokers.

The version of "The Idiot" on Project Gutenberg spells things differently then in any other version. Prince Myshkin is spelled "Muishkin" in the Gutenberg version, for example, yet a Google search will default to Myshkin.  Differences in other names could be much more pronounced then that.

And no one mentions the spelling differences online.  Spelling differences like this are kind of common with translated stuff, but it bugs me when it's just out there, with no one really addressing it..  (Is one more "correct" then the other?  Is one version completely wrong, even?)

Also makes it a pain to search out reviews and analysis's and such, with different spellings for the same thing..

Since Project Gutenberg only contains public domain works, the translation of The Idiot they have there is likely a good bit older than most of the more popular ones that are either still protected by copyright or were when Project Gutenberg added the novel to the collection.

Who are these monsters?!

Strange creatures. Simultaneously a). terrified of whatever germs might reside on a toilet seat, b). completely confident that a piece of wax paper is all the protection one needs from said germs, and c). despite their certainty that underlies a). and b)., completely indifferent to the theoretical health concerns of others.

Was thinking of buying a WWE Network subscription before even finding out about free feburary, but looking at the site..

WWE Network wants billing information for free trials.

So does Netflix and a lot of services, I realize, but I'm against it on principle.  It's a "gotcha" game to lure people in with free trials, and hope they're too lazy/clueless to cancel in time.  Otherwise, why do it?  (I'm also coming from an experience of giving my credit card to a gym, trying to cancel, and being stuck with an extra month of billing because of their convoluted canceling system, so I'm basically against using a credit card in general..  Prefer using a check/money order/cash or something that can't be perpetually re-billed.)

So that you can only do it once.  Otherwise, people would be constantly signing up for the free trial each month with a new account.  Although, I managed to get 3 free months of netflix, 2 because I had two different cards with different addresses associated with them, and then my ex used her credit card for the 3rd month.
