In your area, is it illegal to ride through a crosswalk? Do you have to stop at the curb and walk it through?

That makes no sense.  Do they force drivers to get out of their cars and push them through crosswalks?

I didn't mean push bikes through a crosswalk (perpendicular), I meant push them across (parallel) a crosswalk - across a street.

Yeah, pretty sure it's standard ordinance everywhere bikes needs to go in the street with cars, and obey traffic laws. (Variations on whether this applies to kids).

Getting off and walking is more hazard than just riding through.

Not sure about other places, but in L.A. - bikes can ride on the street, so long as they obey traffic laws. They can also ride on the sidewalks, but they can't ride through crosswalks - they have to stop at the curb and walk them through.

The logic, I assume, is that when drivers turn down a street, they're looking for pedestrians who are generally traveling at one speed, and can stop more-or-less on a dime, if necessary. But too often, bicyclists will shoot through the crosswalk because they have the walk sign and assume they have the right-of-way. So a driver sees no pedestrians, and assumes the coast is clear, but mid-turn, a guy on a bike darts in front of them.

My sense is that, very few bicyclists in L.A. are aware of this law, and I was wondering if other cities had the same thing going.

Q.  Can I ride a bike on the sidewalk?
A.
While riding a bicycle on a sidewalk is not prohibited by New Jersey statutes, some municipalities have passed ordinances prohibiting bicycle traffic on certain sidewalks. This prohibition is usually posted. It should be noted, that sidewalks are for pedestrians. Riding on sidewalks can cause conflicts with pedestrians and, like wrong way riding, can lead to crashes since it places bicyclists in situations where others do not expect them. Except for very young cyclists under parental supervision, sidewalks are not for bicycling.

Sidewalk Riding
Illinois allows bicycles to operate on sidewalks subject to the following rules:

  • A person propelling a bicycle upon and along a sidewalk, or across a roadway upon and along a crosswalk, shall yield the right of way to any pedestrian and shall give audible signal before overtaking and passing such pedestrian;
  • A person shall not ride a bicycle upon and along a sidewalk, or across a roadway upon and along a crosswalk, where such use of bicycles is prohibited by official traffic-control devices; and
  • A person propelling a bicycle upon and along a sidewalk, or across a roadway upon and along a crosswalk, shall have all the rights and duties applicable to a pedestrian under the same circumstances.

You know those ink rollers, to hide information?  Been going through old junk, and noticed I can sometimes see the info through the ink if the light hits it wrong.  Even after multiple passes.

Is that normal?  Is ink useless, or am I doing something wrong?

People I don't know who touch my stuff.  I had a stranger unhook my phone and charge his (we were at a safe place where people wouldn't steal).  I did not realize it until he left.  By the look on his face, he was not dealing with an emergency.  This is an area I have to deal with if I'm going to be a successful pastor.

It's cold in my office so I made a pot of coffee, and since it's late, I made decaf. I walked away from the pot for a minute. When I come back, some woman is putting sugar in a cup of coffee, the decaf pot is on the auxiliary burner - which is off - and the coffee is now pouring into the regular pot.

I asked her who moved the pots. She says she did so she could get a cup. I pointed out it's decaf - she didn't know there was a difference. Idiot, just let the damn thing finish

How does she...?  Who doesn't know the difference between...?

She seriously...  I mean, seriously, doesn't know what decaf is?  O_o

Ticks.  Lots around here, and it's pretty hard to go an entire summer without getting a few.

Just pulled an engorged out of my sisters dog.  Looked like a grape.

Car problem.  Any experts here?

Basically, it's a really subtle high pitched whistling noise.  Generally seems to happen just at the point of tapping the break, but disappears on full breaking.  Doesn't really happen when driving, either.

If it was an older car, I'd assume break shoes.  But I just got the thing, slightly used, with well under 25,000 miles (The bare minimum break pads are supposed to last before replacement)..

I think I've heard that brake dust is a possible culprit for this.

You know how some people hold up a line by fishing out their cards/cash/checks after getting to the register?

Got behind one woman who whipped out a newspaper/coupon guide, spread it out across the checkout counter, and very deliberately browsed through it.

Gah! Nothing worse than standing in a queue for a bus for 15 minutes, then, once it starts loading, one of the chumps in front of you is struck by the realization there's a farebox, and you have to put money into it to ride, and spends the next 5 minutes going through the wallet, pockets, socks, whatever, looking for $5. (Even better are the women who bury their Eco-passes at the very bottom of their bag that they have to fish through to locate.)

So, you were standing in line for 15 minutes, and not once did you think "I'd better see if I have enough money to ride this thing"...

So, my gold renewal for Xbox Live came in.  My bank recently sent one of those new "chip" credit cards, with the exact same number on it, but a different expiration date.  I didn't think of changing out my old card number for this new one, because same number, but of course that was a boneheaded move as they compare expiration dates..

So the short of it, the auto renew came in, got rejected, and now I can't swap out my old card OR input my new one (Probably some flag if numbers are nearly identical.)

My only option is to call directly, which means trying to explain my problem to an asian who barely understands english.  Which I just tried to do, and got told spell out my account phonetically, only to be told"We can't find your account", and hung up in frustration.

Settled up with paypal.

Than cancelled my subscription (Yeah, they don't simply have an option to disable auto renewal.  Instead, they put it under "cancel", which anybody would assume is an option for cancelling a service, and not to stop being billed every cycle....)

Trying to work out any problem for a service.

I bought one of those promotion's for siriousxm radio, for five months.  It took two days to even activate, and was on the fritz for three weeks.  Eventually got it working.

On principle, I think the lost time should be credited.  You're paying for it, after all..

But practically, it's gone.  Looking at complaints online, they can't even issue refunds without instructing a customer to dispute with his bank, or fix error's they themselves made (Like extending a two time limit of transfer, which they used up correcting their mistakes after issuing the service to the wrong car).

It's always like this.  Many services/businesses/colleges/government offices have zero problem solving ability outside of the basics. Anything falls outside that, and there's nobody to deal with it who know's what they're doing.

Two part. Get on the elevator this morning, purposely ignoring the one with people on it. two women get in behind me, then as the doors are almost closed some bitch sticks her hand in and opens it. There are 5 others and at that time they come often, bitch your time isn't worth more than mine

OK, minor annoyance, but I feel like bitching so I post about it on fb. And then my friends have to tell me I shouldn't sweat it.

Your friends "lecturing" you annoyed me, but I stayed out of it.  In context I have no issue with people venting about minor annoyances like that.  We know that we all know what's really important.
