Topic: More things that annoy me..

Looking back at things you thought were awesome, and now..  don't.

Seinfield then:  Funny show.

Seinfeld now:  Bunch of jerks being jerks, haaaa.  (Bookman is still hillarious, though.)

Comic books of the 80's/early 90's:  All trying to be Watchmen.  Same tone, same cynicism, same "realistic" dark, gritty art style.

Was saying how the comic are, not how they should be. 

I mean, they called it the "grim and gritty era" for a reason.  From Watchmen style (Everything from Dark Knight Returns to Legion of Superheroes "Five Years Later" story, to little known comics like "Foolkiller".  Even Superman incorporated a lot of Watchmen influences (Mxy the playful trickster becomes an evil djinn who breaks every bone in Lex Luthor's armored security forces by making them transform like Transformers toys).

And then Liefeld takes it to the next level with over the top violence, oversized guns, and costumes with fifteen pockets running up the legs.

At least we had Keith Giffen writing a genuinely funny and lighthearted Justice League of America/Internation, A.K.A. the "humor league".   Fans HATED it because it was parody instead of "serious business".  Me, I loved it then, and it's generally considered one of the few 90's highlights now..

I was never under any misconception that the Seinfeld crew was likable.  That was never the point of the show.

It was, no question.

It's kind of interesting looking at the backlash against present day Frank Miller, with Batman calling Robin retarded and making him eat rats.

It's the same guy who wrote the classic Dark Knight Returns and Year One.  But I kind of think people liked those for reasons Miller never intended, and Miller knows this, and decided to just keep ramping it up until they finally got it (It, being that he hates you and he's mocking his audience.)

Just bought an iPad case at Staples, from brand named Solo.  Ribbed outer case, snug fit for the tablet, and magnetic flap for secure carrying.

Only problem is, the flap draped over the top edge of the screen.  No way to fasten it back, it just dangled.  Of course, this isn't how it looked in the picture. 

I brought it back to ask if that's normal, or if I was missing something.  The kid behind the counter said it probably bent back over time.

So I had him help me remove the tablet, and got a refund. 

What can I say, that flap would drive me crazy.

Are they ALL like that?  My Kindle had an off brand case that wasn't cheap, but didn't clasp.  Instead, you strapped it inside the case, which itself was pretty annoying.  I'd love something form fitting and strapless, but not if they all have a damned clasp/flap dangling down at you.

Every food storage recommendation claims a 3 day limit on stuff.

Like they want you to shop every two/three days.  I've had lots of stuff way older then 3 days.  Heck, I've had stuff nearly two weeks refrigerated, and was fine.

Are they covering their rears, with such a conservative estimate?

Lets make this my last complain for 2016:

I bet somebody sued over a spoilage, and that's why the "three-five days past, throw it out" rule is everywhere.

But I don't blame the people who sued.  I don't blame the lawyers. 

I blame the judges and juries who issued the awards.  They're the ones who should say "no" to a lot of the outrageous settlements/decisions that get passed down, but don't.   I don't know if they're stupid, easily swayed by a good argument, or corrupt.  Maybe all of the above.

Here's what bugs me about Twitter. The character limit means that when something happens in the world, you don't get news of it instantly. What you get instantly is everyone's reaction to it.


Something just happened w/r/t Mariah Carey. I have no idea what. Twitter is producing about 1200 tweets per minute about it - and none of them are actually explaining what happened. It's maddening.

Which brings me to another gripe of mine. People who throw the scandal flag at singers whenever they're caught lip-synching. And, for some reason, comparing it to what a happened with Milli Vanilli.


Milli Vanilli didn't just lip synch - they took credit for someone else's vocals, accepting a Grammy on their behalf (before being exposed and then giving the award back).

There may be a different reason, but if the copyrighted music is diegetic (playing within the scene, from a radio or something), there's no way to remove it or dub over it without eliminating all the other audio within the scene, which may be dialogue or sound that's needed for the scene.

I went out with friends recently to a comedy club, and our group was met by more of their friends. One of the girls has this horrible high pitched shrill laugh that is so disturbing even the comic stopped to look at her and go WTF?

I refuse to hang out with them if that girl is included. You know how Jim Carrey does that "most annoying sound in the world" bit in Dumb and Dumber? This laugh kills it by a country mile.

Wr don't get many valley girl types in CT, that's one good thing.

Plenty of orher annoying stereotypes, though. 

Funny thing, a friend of a friend visiting from California said he loved CT for the people.  Said they were more down to earth.  All the CT natives in the car just look at each orher like "Is he crazy?".

When people don't set the digital clocks on their stove tops and microwave ovens - letting them flash "12:00" eternally. Also still holding onto some residual rage from 20 years ago when people wouldn't set the clocks on their VCRs.

Of course it bothered him, that's rude. Bastard
