I may be saying goodbye to gaming
« on: October 21, 2011, 08:53:54 AM »
I just don't have time anymore. It really sucks, because I really love games. Red Dead Redemption is the best game I've ever played. I haven't even gotten around to tracking down the Mass Effect series and playing it. I quit on Gears of Wars 1 and wanted to finish it. The PS3 is down to 250 now, and I wanted to get it for God of War 3. Not gonna happen.

Started playing back when the Atari 2600 was the hot console. Vividly remember playing Defender. Great game. Combat was also a hot game. I was there for ET, folks!

But I think I'm having to say goodbye now. Between my kid and work, I have zero spare time.

About the same here, but I'll always do it because it's a good way to unwind.

I wouldn't say goodbye to gaming. Say you're taking a break, and come back.

I'm busy as hell too these days, and with a fucked up back it's pretty much all I can do to go work, and then try and take care of stuff at home for a couple hours before I have to go lie down and rest my back. So for the last couple months, with the exception of one evening or two, I've had zero long-session gaming time.

But that doesn't stop me from having say 20 minutes of free time once every few days and tossing in COD and playing a round or two. Still gotta get some gaming in. Cram it in where you can!

Fatty, just download M.A.M.E. and get a bunch of beat em ups like Final Fight and Punisher.

They're perfect for the quick 10 minute gaming fix, when you just don't have time for these marathons modern games put you through.

I've been playing armorgames stuff at work some while it's slow. Rebuild 2 is really fun.

I am alone this weekend, I may play something tonight or tomorrow afternoon.

Fatty, I may not post a lot but it's partially only because I was/ am in the same boat. Lemme try and drop some science on ya:

I got married, bought a house, took on a huge new chunk of duties at work and oh, BTW, had a daughter too. On top of this, my wife had a ton of health problems that resulted in a hernia surgery, 2 bouts of endometriosis and finally, a complete hysterectomy this April at 37.

In a nutshell, I gave up on gaming for about 2-3 years with the work, new baby, constantly doing shit on the house and having a sick wife.
Even thought there ARE times when you feel like your never gonna have any free time again, it does get better. You take breaks but, like Prime said, you can come back. I just re-adjusted a bit. I realized that the only time I had to myself was after everybody went to sleep. I was 37, 6'5" and about 325 and couldn't stay up late to save my ass cause I was horribly out of shape. Well, It took buying a treadmill and working up to 4-5 miles 3-4 times a week (My goal is 15 mi. a week. Completion time varies... LOL) to reach my ultimate goal:

I'll be 39 on Sunday. I'm 270 ish for this entire year, I'm in better shape than I have been in years and I tuck the girls in and have ME time at night. I play PS3 or watch Netflix for an hour or 2 after they go to bed. The key was having the energy to do it. Life is better than ever and my exercising has carried over to my girls.

Hang in there Fatty. I've known you on the internets for years and you're a good man. You can be there for your family and still have YOU time. You'll find a balance. You ever get that PS3, I'm down for some Black ops. (Hossler708 btw)

I'm mega fat and need losing 150 pounds to be my main goal in life. I do like the idea of staying up for maybe a few hours after I put the wife and baby to sleep, that will probably work after my daughter starts sleeping in her own bed.

I just figured out how to put my XBOX on high definition and turned on Red Dead, and it made me want to weep tears of joy.

I've taken breaks from gaming for several reasons, but as far as family goes that's an easy fix. When FATWIFE wants to watch American Idol and X-Factor that's FATWIFE'S TV Time. When FATBABY wants to watch Dora and SpongeBob that's FATBABY'S TV Time. When FATSEXY wants to skin critters and shoot Mexicans that's FATSEXY'S TV time.

The mental image I have of FATBABY is him hitting FATSEXY with a frying pan and saying "Not the momma!"

Your original Xbox, or 360?

It has to be set to high def?  I thought seeing up an HDMI connection would be enough...

Ya gotta tell it what resolution you want to use.

I was furious that I went through getting a high def TV and an HDMI cable, hooked it up, and it still said 480p when I turned to the XBOX. And since my XBOX's clock resets if you leave it off for more than fifteen minutes (FURY!), I was resetting the clock the other day and saw the options for resolution.

It's amazing.

I have gamer friends who seem to find time for this shit, but it seems like it's the only thing they do.
