James Dalton, or just "Dalton" to most, is a legendary "cooler" (that's bouncer for those who don't know
Road House). So legendary that bar owners and troublemakes across the country know his name. Dalton is a trained martial artist with the ability to rip out a man's throat with his bare hands. Dalton is a good man at heart, who will always try to end a confrontation without fighting, and if he must fight, will do everything to make sure the fight is away from others ("always take the fight outside"). "Pain don't hurt" is perhaps his greatest philosophy.
In a story of redemption, Jules' redemption is the biggest of all. A hitman (for quite a few years, we can assume) working for Marsellus Wallace, Jules, unlike Vincent, sees his job as more of a way of life, something he can't go home at night and leave the day at the office. When we first meet him, he's one his way to Brett's (who has stolen (?) a briefcase from Marsellus) with Vincent, his partner. After getting the briefcase and killing Brett (as well as a few others), a man who was hiding in the bathroom bursts out, firing six times at point blank range at Jules and Vincent. He misses with every shot, and Jules' life suddenly changes. Seeing it as divine intervention (meaning that God came down and stopped the bullets), Jules decides that it's a sign from God telling him to quit and go straight. It's his opportunity for redemption, and he takes it. He quits the lifestye, and we can assume he, as he says, "wanders the earth" for the rest of his life.
